“This is my new home. I’ve accepted that and I don’t look back.” He lets her hand go and taps his nose gently with a claw. “Those hamburgers… they smelled so good to me. You think you can smell good things as a human? I smelled our fear.” He grins “And hamburgers.”
“Think about what we’re gaining here:” he was thinking back to what Lauren had told him in his duplex “we’re going to surpass any human limitations, be able to smell things no human can know, hear things that no human could hope to.” He gently tapped his pointed ears. “I’ve met a girl who was homeless. She was given a home here. She doesn’t look back either. For people like us, who have something to gain, we appreciate what the labs are doing. Many of the people here –unfortunately- only look at the negative side. Why? Because they don’t know what they’re gaining. They’re afraid. I’ve been afraid too, but I don’t want to go back. No, sir. It hurts, but pain is only temporary.”
Jordan was loading it on and grabbed her hand again. “Please don’t let others get you down here. You have friends here. People who know what you’re going through.”

Sophie weakly grinned, trying not to blush at the fact that he was holding her hand. She hadn't seen this kind of confidence in the others...all she'd seen in them was despair. Jordan, however, seemed to give her hope, and now that she mentioned it, she could smell the hamburgers, too. It wasn't something she noticed, nor was it as drastic as she might have thought, but the change was there, and she knew it.
"I...I guess you're right. It's just a little hard to adjust to in a twenty-four hour time span, you know?" She shook her head, chuckling to herself, then stood, breaking away from his hand.
"I really should be going...I never finished unpacking," Sophie explained, half of her begging to be rid of the cafeteria scenery, and half of her wanting to stay just a bit longer. "See you later, okay?" She began to walk towards the door, when suddenly, she remembered something, and turned back around.
"I'm in Duplex 10 if you need me, okay?" She called out, waving good-bye. "It was really nice to meet you, even if there were some complications!"
And, having said that, she opened the door, and began to walk out, a mental map to her duplex already appearing. She needed time to think things through...and more importantly, take a nap.

Jordan smiled even more brightly. His tail was going for the gold as he’d won her over. This pleased him greatly as subconsciously he knew he’d just done the doctor’s work.
He took note of her duplex number. This girl could become an asse for the doctor’s cause if she were to be persuaded infallibly that the island wasn’t such a doom and gloom end-all graveyard devoid of hope.
“I hope to see you again, Sophie.” He waved to her as she departed.
When he was sure she was out of range- and her scent was fresh to his nose- so he knew she was definitely gone. He leaned himself over the cafeteria table and sighed out in pain, whimpering as his claws scratched across the surface’s top. What a day.. He’d have to think about doing something for the pain- and for that matter, how he was getting home, through the jungle, without hurting like hell.
That smile crept across his mouth as his tail wagged again. He’d done good. He was a good boy.
