Kaleb stood his ground and used an almost crystalline shield to deflect the fire away from himself. Fire was a strong element, and it took less energy to simply keep it away from him rather than snuff out the spell entirely. Of course, perhaps it would have been better for the wall that eventually did stop the spell if he had let his shields take it head on.

Raising a brow he twisted the fire and lightning materia together and sent them at Kaleb followed by a Slow spell. Maybe he would catch the offensive and miss the defensive spell.

Kaleb couldn't help but grin a bit now that things were getting trickier. He wove his deflection spell for the fire out of the same material as his lightning shield, combining them as easily as Reno had combined the materia. The effect was to split the magic back into it's components, sending the lightning crackling to the ground and the fire to be once again deflected.

The Slow spell would have caught him if his training hadn't prepared him against such attacks, and the smooth shield he created to counter it would reflect the effect right back in Reno's direction.

A shot of Haste dissipated the Slow spell before it could hit him. Pausing for a moment he fiddled around until he could unleash an earth based spell at him.

He watched everything with bright blue eyes. Kaleb certinally was talented in this regard.

Kaleb's best counter for the earth spell was an air-based shield that not only lifted him well above the ground, but condensed an outer shell around him to avoid being hit by any flying projectiles. Even standing in midair, he barely did more than shift his weight from one leg to another as he countered the magic.

Right, he could float. Grunting he reached behind him and lobbed a five pound weight at Kaleb just for the hell of it.

The weight struck the air shield before getting within two feet from actually touching Kaleb, and harmlessly fell to the ground in front of him. The mage just sighed a bit and gave Reno a look that could almost have been interpreted as a 'what the hell was that?' expression.

He shruged. "Had to test all the angles ya know" As he spoke he used an air based Materia to create a tornado under and around the mage.

Kaleb couldn't help but grin, a tornado was much more challenging than a simple five pound weight. Besides, air magic had always come easily to him. The magic he channeled to counter the tornado was also air based, and it shifted the rotation of the wind from an inward spiral to an outward flare in order to render it harmless. He could have just used his portal to step out of the center, but that wouldn't have been as much fun.

Scrunching his nose he picked up another weight and after wrapping a lightning spell around it, set to go off when the weight contacted omething, lobbed it at Kaleb again.

All Kaleb could see was that Reno had used lightning to enchant the object, but he had missed the fine details that would have offered a clue as to the exact nature of the enchantment. This time he did take a step to one side, using air to not only deflect the weight, but add some additional force to get the weight away from him faster.

He smirked as the lightning crackled along Kaleb's magic. He liked that particular nuisance of the Lightning materia. It reminded him of his favorite weapon.

It didn't take Kaleb long to recognise the danger, and he quickly stepped backwards and through a portal to cut off the lightning's path. He appeared directly behind Reno, although far enough away to react once Reno noticed him and threw another attack at him.

He swung around with his e-mag flipped out and on to hit Kaleb. If the kid was good he'd shield himself, if not he'd end up on the floor twitching.

Kaleb hadn't expected Reno to attack with his weapon, but in a way it was similar to sword fighting. He flung out one hand as if to catch the weapon as it came out of it, but it would bounce off an invisible shield instead of actually striking him. He was pretty sure Reno would be too fast to let him get in an offensive move, but he channeled the energy just in case there was an opening.
