Lyddie was smiling, it must be funny. Niz grinned too, ears perked, and watched Lydia carefully. Why was she acting so strangely? What a strange person! "Ooh, legends? Those don't sound like very good stories to me," she said with a shake of her head. She liked love stories better, or happy stories, those were nice.
"Oh, they're not legends? Stories, then? How will you prove them true?" She asked, tilting her head a bit, watching the bae curiously. She certainly was acting very strange. What was going on?

Lydia scowled as she dropped the act. Scaring others was what she lived for, but obviously, Niz didn't have the capacity for it. "Does nothing scare you?" growled the blood-spattered mare, tossing her head in defeat.
She sighed as she continued on the winding path, nibbling on bits of tender grass along the way. She was sick and tired of not being understood by others. She was fed up with not having many real, good friends. She didn't want to make the effort, but she had to. She had to tell Niz the real reason she wanted to enter the forest.
"Niz," began Lydia softly, not daring to turn back to the other mare. "The reason why I came in here... the reason was, I heard there was a meadow nobody knew about in here. With a stream and flowers and everything, year round. But I think it was all legend."

Oh, that was why. She was trying to scare her? Huh, that was odd, and the mare shook her head. "No, I don't get scared. Why should I be scared of anything?" She tilted her head, watching Lyddie closely, then gasped when Lydia told her. "Ooh, that sounds lovely! Do you still want to go find it? We could go look for it together! It sounds wonderful!" Anything with flowers was wonderful in her opinion.

"Really?" exclaimed Lydia, perking her ears up and turning to face her companion. "You really up for it?"
She felt giddy, which was scary. She was excited, which worried her. But she loved every minute of it.
"I think we should head... to the north," Lydia said, motioning north. "Everything is north."

Niz did make a wonderful traveling companion, indeed, if the other was intending to go somewhere that could be intimidating or frightening, because Niz was immune to all of it. Either due to innocence, lack of knowledge, or stupidity, though, remains to be seen.
"Really!" She exclaimed with a grin on her face, excited as well. "It sounds like lots of fun! North? Okay!" She noticed Lydia's motion towards north, and immediately set off for that direction. "I bet it's lovely there!"

Lydia growled as a branch from a shorter tree hit her in the face. But, she put up with it; the thought of the meadow, with all of that untouched, lush grass... it was making her mouth water from where she was.
"Okay... I think I smell something." Lydia put her shnoz to the air and took a big whiff. Yup, she smelled something, alright. She could smell a stream, grass, and...
"Berries!" she exclaimed, bounding over a fallen tree into the direction she had smelled the delicious food in.

"Berries?" Niz exclaimed with a gasp. She hadn't had berries before! Well, she might have, but she didn't ever remember having them. So, the thought of having berries for (possibly) the first time was very exciting. She lifted her muzzle and took a big whiff herself. She didn't know what berries smelled like, but if Lydia could smell them, then she figured they weren't hard to recognize.
And indeed, she could smell something, so she bounded off towards the smell, following Lydia over the fallen tree. "I don't think I've ever had berries before!"

"Then you haven't lived!" Lydia chortled, looking back to the mare behind her.
Bad idea.
She barely avoided a tree as she turned back around, swerving just right to barely graze it with her wing. Then she stopped dead in her tracks.
A lush green meadow lay out in front of her, wildflowers and trees surrounding it. A thin stream trickled through the middle, down from the mountains presumably, and cut the meadow clean in half. There were butterflies everywhere, and she could hear many birds singing their songs up in the trees.
She had found it.
She looked over to the stream, spotting a thick clump of berries, and thundered over, picking the ripe ones and swallowing them. She closed her eyes and savored the taste of the sweet berries, heaving a sigh of content.

Niz followed the Bae, eager to see the meadow, and nearly crashed into the gray mare when she had halted. The Ichsa mare peered around Lyddie to try and get a better look, but at that moment the Bae had gone to the berries, so the creme mare trotted into the meadow. "Wow!" She breathed, wide-eyed. She could hardly believe it! Berries, flowers, butterflies, it was perfect. "It's beautiful!"
She trotted over to the berry bush as well, snaking her head over to get a whiff of them. They certainly did smell good... She hmm'd to herself a moment before plucking off a single little ripe morsel and chewing it. Her eyes widened and she looked at Lydia, as if the Bae had just done the most amazing trick. "These are wonderful!!"
