She hadn't touched a pencil in days. It got to the point where Ice was starting to worry about her, checking her temperature to see if the little taur girl had a fever. Kitsu could only shake her head mutely when asked what the problem was. But she missed drawing.

Silently she sat on her bed, staring blankly at the book that her most prized pictures were in. It was as if something had been taken from her, she thought, yet another way to express herself gone because of fear.

Was she really that weak? Was she willing to give up the one thing she loved most because a picture had spooked her a little? Before, maybe, she thought as she squared her shoulders. Before she might have given up. Before she might have been too scared to ever draw again. But she was different.

At least... she hoped she was. No. She knew she was. She reached out, taking the book firmly in hand and pulling out her pack of colored pencils. Even if she drew a strange moving picture, she wouldn't run away, she told herself as she grabbed her large pink eraser. She would just erase it! That's what erasers were for!

She took a deep breath and grabbed a black pencil, sketching slowly at first, then faster and faster, until once again the lines were appearing before she saw them in her mind. It felt good... it felt right. It felt as if everything for that single second was right.

And then she realized that the same face from earlier was staring out at her, looking a bit pressed-upon. But she didn't jump until his lips moved and she heard his deep, rasping voice. "Don't run away this time, would you?"

That had been the first idea, honestly, and now that it was obvious that what had happened earlier hadn't been a fluke, she wanted to run away even more! But she didn't. Her hand tightened on the eraser and she lifted it in a threatening manner, making him look up at it and raise a hand. "Dammit, princess, I only have so much time here, and you're threatening to off me before I've even gotten off the page?"

He could get off the page?? Her heart climbed into her throat and fear struck her so hard that she started to tremble. It must have shown on her face because he sighed loudly. "I won't do anything to harm you, princess." He said. "I just want out of this book."

The book fell from her numb fingers, dropping and bouncing once on her bed, unfortunately still open to his page. Her eyes grew huge as a tiny hand came out of the page, followed by an arm, and yet another hand, pulling the centaur out of the page and into stark, 3D relief.

For a moment she was horrified. And then she realized that the centaur was only a foot tall at best. Curiosity replaced her fear and she leaned forward, cocking her head curiously as he brushed himself off. He had gained color in his transition, and his dark, ruddy skin and black equine half stood in stark contrast with her own coloring.

She reached out, gingerly touching his back curiously, unable to help herself. He crossed his arms over his chest, looking as if he were just tolerating the examination. "Princess..." He said after she started to reach for his long black tail. "I've been waiting for you to summon me. What took so long?"

She blinked and jerked back as she remembered that he had terrified her moments before. She still wasn't sure where he had come from, or, to be more exact, HOW he had come. She had drawn him, but never before had a drawing come to life! And if it was just her imagination making him, wouldn't he be... well... nicer?

"Okay, I'll accept that you were a bit... unnerved." He said gruffly. "Not all of your pictures come to life. It might be a bit strange when one does. But sugar, you have to realize you're not a normal kid. You've got a lot of magic in you, just waiting to come out."

She looked down at her hand, then at the book. It was probably the book, she decided. The book had always been a little different--

"It's not the book." The centaur male said impatiently. "It's you. Or to be more precise, I'm a part of you, Kitsumai, adopted daughter of Ice. I've always been with you."

She would have remembered that, she thought blankly.

"You created me, girl. Now take responsibility." He summed up a bit too bluntly. He was starting to look paler, she noticed. In fact, when she looked closer she could practically see through him. "Draw me again tomorrow." He demanded as the light started to shine through his skin. "And this time don't forget the cigar."

All she could do was nod dumbly as he faded from sight. For a long moment she just sat there, staring at the now blank page of her book. He was gone, just as all the childish drawings she had done long before. There was no sign that he had ever been there in the first place.

It was only then that she realized she hadn't even gotten his name.

She drew him again. It was as if she couldn't help herself, but she didn't pay much attention as he pulled himself out of the book. Ice had gotten her some clay and wire and she was finally up to trying to do something in 3D.

For a long moment Franky watched her silently as she built a simplistic frame out of the wire. "Make one of those." He said, motioning with the hand that was supposed to be holding his cigar. "Of me. I might get to stick around longer."

She glanced up at him, her eyes wide for a second as if the thought horrified her. Then she shook her head, going back to her simple teddy bear. He was demanding and gruff, and she still wasn't sure she liked him very much. Especially when he called her "princess." She was positive she didn't like being called "princess." It reminded her of the nightmares she had had before.

"You had another one last night, didn't you?" He asked abruptly. "A nightmare."

Shocked, Kitsumai looked up at him, feeling exposed for some reason. But he went on. "You dreamt that you were stuck in a tree as the storm went on. Don't lie to me, princess."

She looked away, fighting the urge to cry. He was right. She had had another nightmare, and she wasn't sure how to deal with it, other than ignore it. His touch almost made her jump out of her skin as he crossed over to her side. "Look at me. C'mon. I might only be a foot tall here, but this is my job. At least give me a hint."

His job? As far as she could tell he didn't have a job! At least, not one that she found useful. For a moment a pout touched her lips and she looked away, wondering how in the world he expected her to tell him when she couldn't even speak.

"Now you're just using the mute thing as an excuse." He growled, much to her surprise. "Draw a picture of the dream."

She jerked at the very idea, shaking her head wildly before glancing at the door. He was crazy! And if she ran now he would be gone by the time she got back! Actually, she wondered why he wasn't gone already. It had been longer than the last time she had drawn him, after all. With that thought in mind she leaned forward, peering at his side to see if he was becoming translucent again. He wasn't.

He raised an eyebrow as she looked him over, then walked away, grabbing a piece of paper from her sketchbook and ripping it out. "Draw the dream." He ordered, placing the piece of paper in front of her.

She hesitated, then slowly started to draw, watching as the image from her nightmare appeared in front of her. She didn't like it. The farther she got the slower her hand moved, but finally she finished and he looked at her for a long moment before he stepped onto the picture.

"Now. Watch." He said as his hoof sunk into the picture, followed by the rest of him. In the picture he was huge, she thought in awe as he crossed over to the tiny figure of herself, reaching down a hand to her. The image of herself looked up, then hesitantly offered her own hand.

Then the picture went still as the two hands touched, frozen like a true drawing was supposed to be. And for some reason the sight of him offering his hand to her made the dream seem less threatening than it had before.

For a long moment she stared at the picture, wondering why that one little action had calmed her down so much. Would the picture disappear? She didn't know, and for a long moment she watched it curiously, waiting to see if Franky would move again. But nothing happened. Slowly she picked the page up and headed for the corckboard on the wall, pinning it there in the middle so she could see it all the time.

Cousins
Her sister was going to flip (maybe). Trinity walked up the sidewalk that lead to do Ice’s house, carrying her new charge with her. Ice was the first one she wanted to go to for advise with a baby, but after failed attempts with calling her, she went to the store on her own. There she made some new friends, and got what she thought she’d need.

This child and her daemon also required some fire proofing. That was now another thing she was working on.

Madison was happy, to say the least. She was going someplace new again! And it was pretty out here! Melo bobbed around his child, looking at the trees almost hungrily. They—

“Melo, no buring down the trees or anything. We’ll give you something to ‘eat’ soon enough,” Trin told him, already knowing that look. She had lost a few paintings, among other things, thanks to that look and Bavaria, her little feien, was not a happy camper. There was someone new in the house and she didn’t like it one bit! The new thing –cried- most annoyingly! And this was her house, or so Bav felt. Thus she was refusing to have anything to do with the little girl.

Trin stopped at the steps and rang the door bell to her sister’s house and waited.

The sound of small feet pounding through the hallway greeted her, mixed with squeaking of a single bicycle wheel. The door slammed open and a widely grinning Walter with chocolate stains on his face greeted her. "Lo! Got to go!" he said before he and his daemon raced off again, back into the house.

"WALTER YOU CHOCOLATE STEALING--," Ice almost tripped on the last part, slamming into the wall that seperated the entry hall from the main room. She peeked around it, looking blankly at her sister and... friends. "Huh?"

Trin stood there, looking lost, but a grin was forming on her face. “Hi!” she said, grinning at her sister.

The child in her arms started to clap and giggle in joy. This was already fun! Shocking at first, but fun!

“Um, I’m a mom,” Trin then told her, nodding seriously.

"I can see that," Ice said before walking over and holding out her arms to Maddy. "She's adorable! Is that her daemon?"

Walter almost tripped over Kitsu as he tried to escape, grinning up at her shamelessly and getting chocolate on her clean white hide before he skipped off to finish up his stolen goods. Kitsu looked down at her equine half with a silent sigh, knowing she would have to take ANOTHER bath. Wait, was that talking?

“Yep! That’s Melodious, and this little girl is Madison,” Trin introduced, handing the child off to her sister. “They are little pyros already.”

Maddy looked up at the white skinned one holding her. She was different looking, more so than her mama. Then she grinned, reached up and took a handful of white hair.

"She is, or the daemon is?" Ice said, skillfully dodging the little hand as he took the girl from her sister. "Come on in, you want anything to drink? Oh! Kitsumai! Hi, baby!" she said as she caught sight of her taur girl watching them from the front room. "TB, have you met Kitsu yet? Kitsu this is your aunt Trinityblue."

“Melo burns it, and she laughs about it,” Trin said even as Maddy pouted about the dodge Ice made. That wasn’t fair! Then she was distracted with the intorduction of a new person. The taur girl made Maddy’s eyes widen.

“Hey Kitsu! It’s nice to meet you,” Trin said, giving the girl a grin, and not being surprised at all. Ice took in so many children.

Kitsu smiled shyly, waving a bit, her eyes focused on the little girl. She loved babies! They were so cute!

"Sit down, sit down! We would have brownies, but Walter stole the chocolate," Ice said, motioning to the chairs.

"I kinda figured with the hyper door-opening he did," Trin snickered, taking a seat.

Maddy reached out a hand to the interesting looking taur girl, opening and closing her hand like she wanted something. Added to this was gurgled baby talk. Kitsu had pretty hair! And a horn! She wanted to touch it!

Kitsu moved in, heeding the summons easily and offering her hand to the little girl. She didn't realize that the horn was what she wanted.

"He'll come back once he comes down from the sugar rush," Ice said, not bothering to warn Kitsu of the treacherous baby hands as she sat down. "So these two are forgotten documents like Walter and Oblivion? Both blonde, and one of Walter's eyes is blue..."

"And she doesn't like dresses," Trin said, grinning, "But yes, they're forgottens, as well. I went into that weird house with three other people. Weird, weird house.... But I think they at least look like they'd be cousins, huh?"

Maddy cooed happily, taking the hand offered anyway, and grinned as the other hand went for the horn. Kitsu was so pretty, too! Her eyes were two different colors!

Kitsu pulled back, keeping the horn from being touched simply because she didn't want to risk the little girl being hurt on it. She shook her head with a smile, telling the child silently that she couldn't touch.

"Which makes complete sense to me. It also makes Kitsu and Maddy cousins, too, right?" Ice said, earning a look from Kitsu and a startled smile. "How's your feien taking to the newcomers?"

"Bav -hates- it. She was not happy about me bringing home a baby, then demaneded to know who the daddy was. She swored if it was Jack, she was going to kill him," Trin laughed, "I had to tell her where I found Maddy and that she looked nothing like Jack."

Maddy pouted at Kitsu when she moved away, then sniffled. She wanted the horn! Melo looked from the girl, to the taur and back, flaring just abit. Maddy was turning on the waterworks.

He hated water...

Kitsu started to panic, shaking her head no as she pranced uneasily and started to think. There had to be something to distract the girl with! She looked around, then abruptly disappeared into the back.

"Silva and the others actually moved out for a while, there," Ice admitted, shaking her head. "Walter has some... unusual powers, I'm afraid. It makes for some rough nights."

Trin tiled her head at that. "He cries uncontrollably?" she asked, not knowing what it would be.

Kitsu's sudden retreat confused both the baby, and her daemon. Then exchanged glances, wondering what they did wrong.

The taur girl came back a little while later with a stuffed toy in her hands. It had a puppy dog's face and dark brown stripes down its back. She offered it to the little girl with a warm smile.

"He... well..." Ice said, looking pained for a second. "Silva thinks he gives nightmares. And I'm not sure that he's not right."

"Huh... I never heard of anyone purposely being able to give people nightmares. And even if he does, there's nothing you can do about it, right?" she asked.

Maddy's face brightened at the sight of the taur returning. And she had a toy!! The horn was now forgotten in light of the dog-bear. Both of her hands opened and closed, wanting it.

Kitsu happily handed it over, glad she had found something to make the baby happy.

"That's why Silva and the others moved out," Ice said with a sigh. "Nightmares are worse when you've got a lot of memories that can contribute to them. The three might be young, especially compared to us, but they've been through a lot."

She took a deep breath, shaking it off. "Enough of that, tell me what happened in the house! I never got to go. Walter was gotten out of the library by Patrick."

Trin easily moved into the new topic, for her sister's sake. "Well, you know those ghost stories and horror stories about houses that kinda have a life of their own and swollow you us? This house is like that," she started, and launched into the story of what happened to them, the old lady, the sand, and bar, and finally the library.

Maddy wasn't paying attention to them, rather she was cuddling her new toy happily. It was soft! And cuddily! And she liked it alot!

Melo watch it, and gave a light glare. Why was she so eager about that thing? He could move on his own! He was much better than that thing was!

Kitsu watched happily as the little girl played with her new toy. She wanted to draw the picture, it was so cute! With that thought she went back to her room to get her sketchbook and pencil.

Walter peeked around the corner from the kitchen, curious as to what was happening now that he had finished his chocolate. It looked as if there was a new forgotten girl! With that he headed for the front room, dropping down on the couch between his mother and TB as if he hadn't just stolen a pound of chocolate.

Melo was the first to spot him or the two, and he blinked at the boy, then at his daemon. That got Maddy's attention and she looked over, away from her toy and to the boy on the couch. Another smile broke out onto her face and she gurgled into happy greetings to him.

"Hi Walter," Trin told him, lightly ruffling his hat on his head. "I want you to meet your new cousin, Madison and Melo. Maddy, this is Walter and Oblivion." Even as she spoke, she dug into one pocket, pulling out several bolts and other scrap things for Oblivion to munch on.

Oblivion took the bolts, eyeing the floating flame with a hint of distrust. She didn't much care for other daemons, honestly. At least none that she had met. Even Courage was politely ignored.

Walter grinned, turning to the little girl. "I'm Walter!" he said cheerfully. "That's 'blivion. She eats metal."

Maddy pointed at her own daemon, telling the boy that Melo eat everything... except for metal. Weither or not he understood the baby talk, was another thing. But that didn't stop the girl from telling him.

Melo kept bobbing in the air, looking at the other daemon. He wasn't sure what to make of her yet, but she seemed mean. And she was metal. Metal was boring to him, it wasn't eatable after all.

Walter nodded seriously, not understanding a word of it. But she sure liked to talk! He grinned at that, looking up at the flame daemon curiously. Another strange one. "He's pretty," he complimented.

"So it wasn't very fun," Ice summed up TB's story for her, grinning slightly. "Maybe I'm glad I didn't get to go now."

"It was embaressing! Not fun, yet funny at the same time," Trin told her, grinning as well.

At the compliment, Melo fluffed up his flames proudly. He was good looking wasn't he?

Maddy giggled at that reaction. She returned the complimenting by pointing at Oblivion, she was pretty too! Not Melo pretty, but she had a good face! Maddy liked the face.

Walter grinned. "Yeah, 'blivion's pretty too," he agreed, catching that part. "She's a lot bigger, though."

"I would think so. I'd have liked to see the ballerina lady," Ice agreed, trying to picture it in her mind. She wasn't surprised at all to see Kitsu come out with her drawing pad and pencil to start drawing pictures. All the use of living models was actually really helping the little girl with her art.

"Oh? Kitsu draws as well, huh?" Trin asked, looking to her sister and went about ignoring the girl drawing. She knew from experence, if you were drawing someone, let them move abit, but not too much.

Maddy looked around, putting her new toy in a safe spot, then reached up, taking Melo into her hands. He didn't burn her, nor her clothes and he was small enough to be used for cuddles by her, too. It caused her bed to catch on fire before. She then offered a closer look of Melo to Walter.

Walter reached out, just enough for his hand to feel hot. Then he pulled his hand back again, blowing on his palm. "That's cool!" he said chidishly. She could hug fire! Oblivion gave him a dirty look and nosed TB again, looking for more snacks.

"She's good," Ice said with a smile. "Ask her to show you her corkboard sometime. She's got some great pictures pinned there."

"Alright! I'll do so once she's done," Trin agreed. "So, how's everything else?" she asked, pulling out more snacks from Oblivion. She made sure to bring things for the metal eating daemon.

Maddy looked at him a bit confused as to why he didn't want Melo, then shrugged it off, letting her daemon go. Melo dropped in the air, only to go up again and fly around slightly. He was getting hungry....

Ice thought for a moment, looking serious for a moment. "I got the most strange letter from Shade," she admitted, watching the flame in the air curiously. "Does he eat a lot?"

"Yes..." Trin groaned. "I've had to blanket my house in a fire proofing spell and i'm not done yet. He's already consumed one baby bed, a dresser, closet of clothes, stuffed animals-- But what was this letter about?"

"Should we get him a candle?" Ice asked, not really wanting to talk about the letter, but knowing she would sooner or later. "I've got some big ones in the kitchen, I'll go get one now."

"Oh? One of those big one's with 3 wicks? I think that would be good for him! I could put a plate of something under it, to catch the wax," Trin said, looking at her sister. She was avoiding the letter. "He's not going back, is he?"

Maddy reached out for Walter, wanting him to hold her, even if he wasn't that much bigger than herself. She liked talking to him!

Walter reached out to take her, and Ice let him, figuring it would be fine with him sitting down. "I've got one with six, I think," Ice admitted as she headed for the kitchen. She came back with the candle on a plate, offering it to the little flameball. "And no, he's not going back... he's becoming a dad."

Trin choked, then started to laugh about that. "He's doing what?! Did he find a forgotten as well or--" or did he shack up some other girl? If he did, she was gong to hurt him! Even if he once tried to kill her, she was going to hurt him!

Melo looked at the candle on the plate, then looked at Trin. When she didnt' shake her head (not that it mattered to much to him), he perched on it happly.

Ice put it on the nearest table to his forgotten before sitting down. "He got a head of cabbage," she said, rolling her eyes slightly. "He says it'll turn into a kid, and he's going to take care of it. I think he's trying to impress me again."

That made Trin feel better, and she grinned. "I think he is too. It's cute! And on Gaia, I wouldn't doubt a thing."

Melo sat happy on his new candle bed, watching as Maddy was talking away to Walter, telling him about the trip to the store and the other boy she had met. She was in love with that boy, too.

The fact that she was talking about his best friend was completely lost on Walter, but he smiled and nodded anyway. Babies were cute, he figured. They were more interesting when they could talk real talk, but they were still cute.

He was almost worried about how talkative this one would be when she could talk, though.

"It's not cute, it's insane," Ice replied. "He's still got no job, and he's living with Jack! That poor baby is going to turn out wild, I give you odds."

"Oh, you have a point. Jack's already messed up with having a little girl in a house full of guys." Trin shook her head. This could get really bad. "He really needs to find a job now, rather than just buming at Jack's."

"But I think he is trying to impress you," she added.

Maddy gave a bit of a yawn, and looked up at the boy, it was his turn to talk to her! She had just told him a story! Sure it was about the store, but it was still a story!

"Mmmm," Walter said thoughtfully. "You need to meet Xana and Annie!" he said finally. "Then there's this really nice guy named Althie, who can steal anything!"

"You think it'll be a girl?" Ice asked, worried. "I mean, he's doing okay with his feien, and she's a female. But a little girl is different, don't you think? I mean--," she sighed, running a hand over her face. "He's a pain."

"He's a perv. You have alot of pervy guys in your life, sis. If it is a boy, he'll probably turn out to be a perv, too," Trin said, trying not to laugh.

Maddy looked up at him, interested in these other people already. She wanted to meet them!

Wait, Xana? She knew Xana!

"We should throw a party!" Walter decided then and there.

"Did I ever ask him to show how good, or bad a father he would be?" Ice asked with a groan. "He's going to drive me insane one day, and I blame you. I don't know how it's your fault, but I still blame you."

"Oh sure! Blame it on the sweet, innocent one!" Trin laughed, leaning back on the couch. "I didn't do anything. You didn't tell me about him for yyyeeeears."

Maddy's eyes brightened. A party? It sounded like fun! Even if she didn't quite know what a party was. She grinned at him.

"With lots of cookies!" he added, going to the real reason for a party in his mind.

"But we'd all have been better off if you had never found out," Ice replied with a sigh. "Well I guess it's too late to try and talk him out of it now. We'll just have to make sure the kid doesn't come out completely... well... crazy."

"Actually, that's a lie. If it wasn't him, or you'd never met him anyway, then I'd dead," Trin told her seriously. "I guess perventing the kid from being a perv is beyond us, huh?"

Maddy clapped her hands at the mention of cookies. She had one of those before! They were good!

"I want a cookie now!" Walter decided. "Moooom! We need cookies!"

"Oh? After all that chocolate you ate?" Ice asked. "I don't think you need any more sugar." She shook her head, looking over at TB again. "Can Maddy have a cookie?"

"That would be torture to Walter, now wouldn't it?" Trin answered, shaking her head.

Maddy promply pouted. She wanted a cookie!

"He should have thought about that before he snatched the chocolate," Ice said seriously.

"I'm going to starve," Walter said dramatically.

Again, Trin laughed. "You are not going to starve. But when you steal, and eeat something you shouldn't have, you shouldn't be rewarded," she told him seriously.

Maddy pouted more, making a whimper because now Walter wasn't happy! She looked to her mom, then to her apparent Aunt, giving them both the big eyed look. She was going to win the war with cuteness!

"Ooooh, she's good," Ice said, shaking her head. "But no cookies until after your next meal."

This wasn't how it was to work! They were supposed to agree! Maddy looked at Walter now, to see if he knew what to do. She wanted a cookie!

Trin was trying not to laugh again at this reaction. Poor, poor little girl.

"Mommy? I'm hungry!" Walter promptly said. Ice laughed out loud.

So did Trin. "He wants his meal so he can have a cookie!" she said, stating the obvious.

"No, really, I'm hungry!" Walter said.

"Mmmhmm," Ice said. "Let's have a barbecue, shall we? That way we'll have good food and time for you to really get hungry."

"I'm up for that!" Trin said. "Do we need to get anything for it, of do you already have enough?" Then she looked at Maddy. "You wanna have a little party, Maddy?"

The girl look up at her. Parties equalled cookies, in her mind and she smiled happily now. She wanted a party! With cookies!

"I've got hotdogs and hamburgers," Ice said as she headed for the fridge. "Along with buns. And chips!"

"Ooh, that sounds good! Too bad Bav didn't want to come with us, but that's her loss!" Trin said, getting up to help her sister, then she paused, looking to the drawing girl. "Kitsu, sweety, would you mind watching then while we make food? I want to see your other pictures too."

Kitsu looked up, breaking into a smile as she nodded in agreement. She could do that!

It had been weeks since her last nightmare. She had been having good dreams ever since she had drawn Franky in that picture. So she felt even more betrayed as the dream revived again, this time far more scary than it had been before...

The rain was heavy, freezing, and the sky rumbled with thunder as the water soaked her to her very skin. She tripped again, falling on her face once more, but unable to even pull herself up. The mud was soaking into her clothing, weighing it down, sucking her down. She would die this way, she thought as tears flowed down her face. She would die and no one would even notice.

That was to be her fate.

She laid there, slowly losing the chills that wracked her body as the cold soaked down into her veins, freezing her blood. She didn't have the energy to shake anymore. She barely had the energy to turn her head so she could still breathe. Even when she managed that her breathing was shallow, each breath rasping in her ears, far louder than they should be, accompanied by a rattling in her lungs.

She was going to die.

The rain pelted down on her back, forcing her deeper and deeper into the mud, holding her down. Farther and farther she was pressed into the life sucking muck, until her chest hurt too much to move. The gasping breaths that she had taken stopped completely and her eyesight started to fade. Her life began to flash before her eyes, each hit, each slap, the broken arm she had gotten for her seventh birthday.

Maybe, she thought with a pathetic little laugh that never hit the air, the world would be better off without her.

No, she whispered silently. No, she can't die like this... she can't die without the necklace her mother--

The world went black on the little princess and she forgot about the necklace entirely.

Something poked her shoulder. She was so numb with cold that she didn't even feel it at first, but it poked again, and the spot where it poked warmed slowly, seeping through her frozen skin into her blood, into her very veins.

She looked up, reaching up to shove the mud out of her eyes. Then she stared. It was a creature she had never seen before, never dreamed could exist. It was the kiran. He was glorious, and his eyes gleamed like sapphires even in the pouring rain. She shoved herself up, following as the kiran turned and started away. She wasn't sure why she should follow, but she did.

Then she woke up.

For a long moment Kitsumai just sat there, trying to get her bearings as she took in her bedroom and the pictures hanging all over the walls. She was--she was Kitsumai, she told herself, mouthing the name as it flashed through her mind. And she was safe. Perfectly safe now.

"Kitsu!!" Ice called through the door. "You awake yet? We're having waffles!" The door opened and her adoptive mother peeked in. "Oh, good, you're awake now. Do you think you could help me? Kisa's gone off running again and you never know when she'll be back. And Jade was up all night working on a paper."

Kitsumai smiled, nodding as she got to her hooves and looked around for another scarf to wear. Blue, she decided as she picked one off of the rack. Blue would be a good color to wear. It was calming and happy.

"Then I thought we might go shopping for Christmas," Ice said as her daughter dressed and followed her into the hallway. "It's a perfect day for it, and I thought you might want to pick some things for your friends and family, as well."

Kitsu blinked, then clapped her hands, a happy look on her face. Christmas shopping sounded wonderful! It was the perfect way to forget about the nightmares, and she could get something for Walter! Maybe a big box of cookies, she decided with a nod. Yes, he would love that! Maybe she would buy a tin and make the cookies herself!

Ice smiled slightly, seeing that reaction. She seemed happy about the idea, and that was great. There had been a hint of fear in the girl's eyes when she had walked in earlier, after all. She really needed to see what she could do about those nightmares.

It wasn't as big a surprise as you would have thought, Kitsu thought as she looked through the book of bridesmaid gowns. Jade had been dating her boyfriend for almost two years now, and they were deeply in love. A wedding, she knew, was just the next step in a relationship between adults.

It was soooo romantic. The little taur girl stopped on the pages of two piece suits, looking over the top curiously. The theme was green and white, of course. Jade had always loved the color green, so she was making her sisters dress in it for their duties. She had even apologized to Kitsu, telling her that Kisa was going to be the maid of honor because she was older. It wasn't that she loved Kitsu any less than her other sister.

Kitsu smiled at that memory. Of course she had known that to start with. Kisa had tried to argue, though. Kisa didn't want to be in the wedding at all, if she was honest, she was only doing it because she loved Jade, just as the rest of them did.

Kitsu wondered when Kisa and Josiah would get married, as well. It was so obvious to her that the two of them liked each other. Josiah was always there when Kisa was doing something around the house, and vice versa. But he always got flushed and started stammering whenever the tiger girl looked at him for too long. That was silly, if you asked Kitsu. He should just say what he wanted to, and the two of them would start dating and fall in love, and get married, and have babies and--

Why yes, she HAD been reading teenage romance stories. She rather liked them, too! Especially the one with the vampire! That was so romantic! And then there was the one--

"You're distracted again," Franky said, making her glance up. "I thought you didn't like clothes."

She looked at him, then at the book, turning it to show the strapless tops for the two pieces. They didn't cover much more than her scarfs did, after all!

"Ah," he said. "You worried about losing your sister?"

She blinked, confused by that statement.

"She's moving out, you know. She's going to live with her husband."

For a second she chewed on her bottom lip, hesitating. It was true. She hadn't been thinking about that part of it. Jade would move out and she wouldn't get to see her every day. It made her sad, but--

She flipped the page, showing a picture of an extremely happy bride, and pointing at it emphatically. Her sister would be happy!

"Smart girl," Franky said with a smile.

Kitsu didn't like the wedding dress seller lady. For one, she kept bustling off right in the middle of things, and for another, she kept looking at Kitsumai with a slight frown. So what if she couldn't wear a dress? She could at least wear a pretty top!

She was rather happy to see that her mother was getting irritated as well. The only reason they hadn't left yet was because Jade looked so ecstatic trying on the dresses. Kitsu smiled slightly at the sight of the green haired female turning in a circle before looking at her and Ice. "So?" Jade asked. "Do you think this is the one?"

"What do you think about it?" Ice asked. "I kind of liked the skirt on the last one better, but the top for this one is gorgeous. But I'm not the one wearing it, you know."

"I don't know," Jade admitted, glancing over at where Kisa was flipping through a book. "Kisa!" she said irritably. "At least pretend that you're interested!"

Kitsu covered a little giggle as the tiger girl grinned sheepishly.

"That's better. Now what do you think?" Jade asked, twirling again for her sister. "I think Mom's right, I did like the skirt better on that last one."

Kisa nodded in agreement, then handed the book over to Kitsu, pointing out a special top. It was pretty!

"Oh, that would look good on you," Ice said, peeking over at the book.

"I want to see!" Jade said, walking over with her skirt held up in both hands. She was about to look when the saleswoman came back.

"So have we decided yet? We're having a sale right now!" she said.

"No," Ice said. "We haven't."

"I'm sure she'll find the dress of her dreams," the woman said. The look on Ice's face made Kitsu have to hide another giggle.

Quest time!

Kitsumai's art has become a large part of who she is. But it seems rather over-stepping the boundaries when waking up one morning, she notices that she's become a sketch in her own book.
She can still think, she can still move, but no... that's definitely pencil her hands are made of. Can she pull herself out, as she did Franky, or is she stuck in a paper wasteland? And more importantly, how will she cope with this development?!

Good luck, young Legend!

The Dance I

"Kitsu! Bedtime!" Ice called, peeking through her youngest daughter's door. The taur girl was sitting on her special no back chair, doodling away on her sketchbook. Ice walked in, looking over her shoulder. "Oh, wow," she said. "An entire masquerade ball?"

Kitsu looked up, nodding happily. Seeing all of the dresses for the wedding had given her some wonderful ideas! Although she wasn't done with the picture, there were four well dressed women, their long flowing dresses pillowing around them, masks held on delicate sticks held to their faces. Shadows that would become men in suits with long tails stood behind them, their arms held out to dance.

None of them had faces yet, she hadn't gotten to that part, but she was quite proud of where she was. She had been working on it for the past few days, planning to paint it and frame it so she could give it to Jade for a wedding gift. Jade always loved her pictures.

"Well why don't you stop for the night and get some sleep?" Ice asked, reaching down to stroke her hair. "And we're going to have to get you a haircut, aren't we?" she added. "Or do you want to grow it out?"

Kitsu shook her head, touching her hair with forefinger and middle finger to mimic scissors. She wanted a haircut. It was starting to get in her eyes. She stood, heading for the bathroom to wash her face before bed, then climbed in as her mother waited patiently to tuck her in. The sketchbook was right where it always went, on the table next to her bed.

"Good night, honey," Ice said, kissing her on the cheek and turning the light off. Kitsu fell asleep with the ballroom scene dancing in her mind.
***

It was the music that got to her first. It was a waltz, one that twirled around her, a bit louder than she was used to. She didn't remember this one, though, it seemed tinny and fake, as if played by someone that only knew the basics of the song. She wondered if it was Walter, trying to learn how to play another instrument. He always seemed to get right to the point where it would almost be good, but not quite, then stop.

Reluctantly she opened her eyes. She would have to encoura--

The world was a dirty white color, lacking the depth she was used to in reality. It seemed to surround her, like a worn out snowstorm, but lacking the snow. She looked down, expecting to see the ground, at least.

There was only a line there. She frowned, forcing herself to her hooves, and leaned down to touch the line. Her hands came up with a smudge--wait--

Her hand wasn't her hand anymore. It was just a line forced into the shape of a hand. There was no shadow, no color, just the same dingy white as the rest of the room.

But still the tinny, clockwork music that wished to be a waltz played on in the background, growing louder with every moment, as if it were coming to her.

It was in her mind what was happening, but she had yet gotten up the guts to admit what was going on. It had to be a dream, she thought, looking around for Walter. Walter was connected to dreams like--

She jumped back, rearing slightly as she realized that she was now surrounded by dancers. They whirled and twirled around her, the tinny music flowing through the air dancing along with them. Their movements seemed to mirror the music, stiff and stilted, each step just a bit too jerky, each limb just a bit too straight. It wasn't natural.

What was worse, though, what was so much worse than the simple outlines of the male dancers, was when the women turned to look at her. There were no eyes behind the masks, no mouths to smile or frown. It was like watching emotionless dolls.

She looked away, wishing she had at least taken the time to draw eyes, and stopped as a shadow that was to be a man stepped in front of her, bowing gallantly, his formless hands reaching for her own.

She found herself taking the hand that was offered, being pulled into the jerky imitation of a dance as she looked around wildly for a way to get out. She was a drawing. Just like Franky. But unlike Franky, there was no one on the outside that could pull her out.

The music got louder, almost deafening her.

She wanted to go home.

The Dance II

She was starting to feel sick with the constant turning. Faces, or the lack thereof, became blurs in front of her eyes, gray marks that smudged the off white color of her world. She tried to pull away from her partner, but she couldn't. He refused to let go.

Tears threatened and she jerked harder on her hands, struggling to free herself from the shadow of a man. The music stopped and the man stopped dancing, but kept his hold on her. Everyone was watching them, their eyeless faces aimed at her with what she was sure was amusement, or distaste.

She couldn't say anything, her voice had never started, much less stopped. But her breathing was harsh. He wouldn't let go! He just--she jerked as hard as she could and watched in horror as the shadows that were his hands separated from his body, still clinging to her hands. She reared back, trying to shake them off.

It didn't work. The fear was maddening, those shapeless hands still clinging to her, not budging. Without a thought she turned, racing away from the group, her only thoughts on how she needed to get away. Away from the music, away from the dancers. Away from--

She stopped, looking around the empty area around her. There was no one there. No thing, either. Even the line below her was missing. She was completely alone on what had to be a blank page. The shadows that had been hands dropped limply from her body.

She stared at them, hesitating before nudging them with her front hoof. They didn't move. Slowly, terrified that they would grab her the moment she touched them, she leaned down, picking on up. It was a blob, just a faint shadow that was supposed to represent a hand. She touched it, shaping it into a pencil. It was surprisingly easy to do.

Then, without knowing why, only knowing that she was scared, she started to draw. She reared on her back hooves, working quickly to compensate her lack of balance, and drew a very familiar face.

She couldn't shade him. She didn't have enough pencil, even when using both hand shaped shadows. But she could draw him. She kept working until the gigantic centaur stood in front of her, his eyes closed, his cigar hanging from his lips as he liked it. Franky.

She finished the lines on his tail, exhausted from working so hard. When they were on the same page he was a good two and a half times larger than she was, after all. She stepped back once she was done, hoping it would work, hoping that he would wake.

She didn't want to be alone. She just didn't want to be with those strange dancers.

He took a deep breath, making her jerk and rear back slightly even though it had been what she'd been hoping for. Then he opened his eyes, looking up at first, then down at her in surprise.

"Well... this is unexpected," he said finally. She threw herself at him, tears flowing down her cheeks. "Wait, Princess!" he snapped, jerking away before she could get to him. "Stop crying."

She looked up at him in hurt and confusion.

"If you don't stop crying the lines will smear," he said gruffly. "Oh, c'mon, don't look at me like that." She wiped at her tears, stunned to see the lines that formed her hands started to smear. "See?" he asked.

She sniffled, nodding, then held out her hands. This time he hugged her, giving her what she needed. "You should have used the lead to make a door," he said. "Not me."

She pulled back, looking at him in confusion. He sighed and took a long drag off of his cigar, then blew a cloud of smoke into the air. "There. It's not much, but you'll get a door out of it," he told her.

But he didn't have to use a door, she thought. He could just--

"The book's closed, Princess," he said. "You need a door to get out."

She nodded and slowly reached for the cloud he had blown out. Before she touched it he reached down, pressing a kiss against her forehead. "Good girl," he said before stepping back.

She was slightly flushed from the praise as she shaped the cloud and drew herself a door. When it was finished she turned and looked at him, expecting him to go with her. He shook his head. "Not this time. You're going to need all the energy you've got, Princess."

She nodded, waving goodbye before she opened the door and stepped through.

And woke up.

She twisted in her bed, grabbing her sketchbook and flipping through the pages quickly to the masquerade scene. She stared at in shock for a moment, then shook her head, a hint of a laugh dancing in her eyes.

There, in the middle of the females and their glorious dresses, stood a very smug looking Franky, his cigar dangling from two fingers, a wicked grin on his face. He was shaded.

The male dancers were nowhere to be seen.

It rained the morning of the wedding. The wails and bemoaning was overwhelming--from their mother, that was. It woke Kitsu up from a strange dream about talking alligators and firey headed little girls. It had been extremely real, that dream, and a slightly befuddled smile was still on her lips as she started to get to her feet.

The floor was far closer than it had been the morning before. She stared at it for a moment, noticing that she had forgotten to clean up her clothes before bed yet again. There was her favorite purple scarf, the one with the beads sewn in, and her favorite necklace-- Oh, she couldn't leave that on the ground! She might step on it! Her heart would be broken if--

The hand that reached out to take it was too large. It wasn't that it was ugly, she thought, staring at it curiously. It was just far too large to be her own. She wondered, briefly, if this was still a dream.

It turns out that Kitsu had very low blood pressure in the morning. She was still half asleep, just sitting there on her bed, staring at her hand curiously, wondering if perhaps, she should lay down again so she could wake up properly this time.

She was about to do just that when the door opened and Walter stepped in. "Mom says--" Then he stopped, staring at her so intently that she felt a blush creep into her cheeks. "Wow," he said finally. "We're definitely going to have to get you a bigger bed. And a bra."

She stopped, looking down at her chest and realizing that the t-shirt she slept in was now far too small, and so tight that she could see her nipples poking against the soft material as if protesting the restraint. Then she realized she HAD nipples. And the nipples were right on top of--of---

She had BOOBS! Without a thought of her brother she started tugging her shirt off, intent on seeing for herself. Quickly the door slammed and she heard Walter shouting "Mom! Kitsu's grown!"

"What? On the wedding day??" Ice shouted. "What are we going to do about her top?!"

Kitsu, meanwhile, had gotten her shirt off and was examining her chest with a curious look. They were kind of heavy, she thought, and would be awkward while running. She squeezed one, wincing as she did it too hard. What was the use of that, she wondered with a slight frown. Of course, she had always been jealous of Jade and Kisa for having them, but--

Ice sighed as she stepped into the room to see her youngest daughter fondling her own chest and frowning. "Kitsu, did you do that in front of your brother?" she asked.

Kitsu looked up, flushing brightly as she realized what she was doing. She grabbed her scarf off the floor and wrapped it around her for modesty sake.

"Now your wedding top won't fit," Ice said with a sigh. "We're going to have to think of something else. And quick. We've only got two hours before we need to be there for wedding pictures."
