Aozora Just out of curiousity, someone mentionned Rumiko Takahashi, so I'll use her as an example: Let's say I were to draw Ranma, but I came up with the idea of the picture and the poses, etc. can I still do this? or is fan art not even allowed? With the internet nowadays, you can get ANYTHING on the internet, and usually people don't get caught, and when they do, those people usually don't care. (I'm saying usually because it makes it fair to everyone) So you cannot stop people from taking your own work. and when people show off that owrk, because many people wont notice, the theif could have just said: "es, I did contact the original artist" but in reality he didn't. Ok I think I might have confused a few people... Anyways, is there anyway one can show their work while making sure it won't get "stolen?" PM me if you're still lost <3! ~
Fanart is totally allowed! See, the character does not belong to you, but the concept of the pose and the composition comes from YOUR BRAIN. It's totally allow-able. C:
And protecting your art~ You can watermark it. How? You can use photoshop to stick your name on half opacity on the image. C:
Or if you can't afford photoshop, you can do it on any image editing program with layers. C:

And to add to the watermark info, we have a nice tutorial on how to make them in our Mighty List: link

I'm sorry this isn't really a question, but rather a comment:
Posting eyeballed and other copied work is against the rules in Gaia Picture Post, too, so it would probably be a good idea not to refer people to post such images there. ^-^

Sasuke_Uchiha27 is it a crime to take the avi pics ppl have made for u and put it on your profile and not taking credit for it. You can post artwork that people have drawn for you as long as you give the artist CREDIT for it.

if the pose you draw (i.e.: jacob threw a can-opener at jared) is described in a book, is it still fanart because the picture itself is your own interpretation?

It would be fanart if you used the same characters from that book. If you're just drawing the action with characters not from the book, then it's not fanart.

Well it's a direct copy from the character except they made them a brunette. The pose is ripped off. And they didn't credit the original artist. ....
That doesn't feel like misplaced fanart to me.

Ok then. Sounds like art thievery to me as well. If one of you could supply me with a link to the original so that I can tell her "hey, look. I have the original. I know you cheated", I'd much appreciate it.
[edit] I've googled the character and it's clearly Saber. However, I haven't been able to find a picture with this pose to prove that it is traced or copied, so I'll need that before I can ban her for art theft. Let me know if you have such an image.
