Amoena wasn't sure if she liked the sound of that. "I can't just have a 'yes or no'?" She asked already knowing the answer and judging by the look on Safi's face she was right. "Okay...fine..." She huffed before dropping to the ground to await the, sure to be, long talk. She was regretting asking such a question now. "So...oh wise one...what do you think? Please try to keep it a little short...I want to be back at my mom's side before dawn." She glanced back to the village checking for signs of smoke that would signal that her mother was awake. It all seemed clear, for now. If her Uncle's story took to long however she'd bolt using that as an excuse.

"Sorry Amey, but when you ask your uncle a loaded question like that you have to know it's more complicated. That being said, you know how much I hate being serious, so I'll be keeping this short meself." Still, Safi reather pointedly pointed at the ground again before breaking into a grin as she finally sat down. "And you say you're an adult; tsk tsk."

But once she was sitting down, Safi gave her a scrutinizing look. "Before I start 'yes' or 'no'ing, Amey, I've got to ask; what brought this on all of a sudden? You're a young adult now, after all, so why the random question?"

Amoena sighed and lowered her head once again. Why did he want to know why she had thought of it? That didn't matter to the answer. He should have just gotten to the point. "It's not random. You brought it up when you reminded me about my birth. I just thought it was a little weird how she'd smile when she knew I was looking at her then mope when she thought I was away. That's strange right?" She didn't like talking like this. Being serious just didn't suit her it made her feel like she was failing.

"Now before you ask any more questions from me, answer mine!" She demanded looking straight into Safi's eyes completely determined to get a straight answer. "Do you think my mother ever hated me? Ever hated how I had come or just that I was there?" It confused her. Why didn't she feel any pain of any form asking questions like this? She was practically begging to be hurt by this and yet she felt nothing was wrong.

So much for the query approach. Eyes patient, Safi listened as Amoena first blamed him, then basically went off on a mini-rant before repeating herself. This was certainly something that affected her deeply, alright, or else Amey would have avoided dodging his questions.

Well, usually he was pretty blunt, so it would be easy for him to acquiesce to her request. Leaning slightly to the side and propping his head up on a hoof, Safi directly met her eyes with his. "If I said that I thought she never regretted what happened, I'd be lying, Amey. From what I've learned in regards to that situation, she was at least somewhat involved with another stallion when she got wasted and Kohana came along and then you showed up..."

A thoughtful expression crossed Safi's face as he spoke; it wasn't like he hadn't heard about or considered his brother's unique familial situation. "As I'm sure you can understand, having a strange stallion's foals WHILE involved with another is bound to cause problems. But you yourself? Amey, the second you and your brother were born your mother was devoted to you." The smile that accompanied those words was honest, and a wee bit parental; after all, hadn't Safi helped out at least a bit? "Your mother could have sent you to live with your father, very easily. She loves you, Amey, and even though she wasn't planning on it I seriously doubt she could regret it. Satisfied?"

Amoena listened closely, barely blinking as though it may distract her. It was true then. Her mother had regretted her at first. The thought saddened her a little but she felt the warmth again knowing that she did love her, now if not before. She took several minutes after her Uncle had stopped speaking to process what had been said. "Yes. Though it would have been easier to say 'she didn't like you but now she does'?" She asked as she stood once again stretching out her legs.

She looked away from her uncle to the tepees where her mother lay. To say she was unaffected would be a lie. There was a small pain in her heart that hadn't been there before. She would never admit this to anyone, though, she was strong and wanted everyone to see that. Knowing this little fact, she felt she could blame on Shadow as well. She could turn it into rage that would help her. Not just rage, but power too.

"Uncle...thank you...but..." She turned with a slight smirk. "You really didn't need to sugar coat it like that? Even if I don't have an interest in guys that doesn't make me a kid."

"Hey, who's sugar coating? If I had less confidence in your ability to handle news like that, I WOULD have sugar coated it; believe it or not, what I told you could very well be scarring on certain types of personalities." Safi simply shrugged his shoulders, not bothering to change his relaxed position. "But you're missing the point, Amey. Though I'm not exactly close to your mother, I know that she never regretted you; just the circumstances that lead to you. But can you blame her?"

Though he'd never been seriously involved himself, Safi could very well understand the shock, embarrasment, and upset that would come from the realization that you'd just done the deed with someone other than your partner. And he could understand this "Shadow" being upset that his girlfriend had been with another stallion. Fire water was definitley bad news. "I know that BOTH of your parents would cheerfully kill themselves for you, though; if that's not love, I don't know what is!"

"No, I can't blame her." Her eyes darkened a little bit at a sudden realization. She would never blame her mother. She needed her mother and her mother needed her. If that trust was gone, all she'd have would be her Uncle and as much as she liked him that wasn't nearly enough. "And I'm not sure I'd want either of them to die. That would be a bit of a waste." She laughed a bit then met Safi's eyes once again.

"I'm kind glad to know that they would, but where does that leave you?"She grinned a bit evilly then tossed her head to the side. "I don't know Uncle Safi if you're not willing to die for me maybe I shouldn't be sharing all of this with you? I never know who will end up torturing you for these little tidbits."

Safi managed to bite back a short bark of laughter at his neice's last comment. Yes, she was a tough nut, this one; not something she shared with him, that was for sure! Aside of the nut part, that is. She'd be just fine, he figured.

"Oh, you certainly are an arrogant one, aren't you Amey? Drawing wild conclusions about your poor old uncle. Well, maybe I don't want to tell you, now that I know you have no confidence in me." He managed to look suitably wounded this time; obviously that long bout of seriousness had hung around a little longer, woot!

"Well if you don't ant to answer me then I guess we're done here." She said with a grin flicking her tail to the side before turning to face her home. She wasn't really going to leave she was just toying with him. She could see through that mask her mother always fell for and she was determined to let him know that.

She stepped down the hill pausing only as she saw a leafless tree just begging for punishment. Grinning she charged and in a flash she had her hooves on one of the taller branches pushing on it until it snapped. Letting out a cry of joy she started attacking the other branches practicing her low kicks and high kicks involving a bit of jumping.

Going to the other side she could see her uncle once again. "You wanna help me take this thing down Uncle or do you only fight with your food?"

In response to her comment, Safi simply stuck out his tongue. Just because SHE wasn't a child didn't mean that HE wasn't, now did it? Still, it was a good-natured gesture, and he watched as Amoena took off with a fond smile on his face. Violent or not, he really did care a great deal for his brother's kids...both of them.

However, he decidedly shook his head at her invitation to join her in her assault. "Sorry to disapoint, Amey, but even my food is safe from me. I couldn't so much as swat a mosquito without feeling guilty, thankee kindly." A lie, but only marginally. "Just because you like to beat the innocent doesn't mean I do, silly girl."

"The only 'innocent' I beat are these trees..." She laughed before pushing the tree over simple bending it not actually snapping it as planned. "Hmmm...guess I'm getting tired." She said making her way back up the hill. She looked at the sky, it wasn't to noticeable but it was definitely getting lighter. "Care to walk your niece home? I gotta be there before the sun so I can take care of mom and kick Bandit out."

She giggled sounding a great deal like her mom as she realized what she just said. "Okay...you can add Bandit then..." She smiled then looked to her home. "But really...she's gonna be in pain from whatever Bandit gave her. You wanna come, maybe say high or you just wanna mope about in your oldness up here?"

Chuckling, Safi rose to his feet and ambled over to Amoena, peering up at the night sky through the trees in a thoughtful fashion. My my, how time flew when you were having fun...

"Well, kiddo, I think that I'll walk you home so that you don't get snatched along the way," there his eyes danced teasingly; as though there was any suspicion that she couldn't handle herself! "But after you get home safely, I'd probably take off; getting near morning, after all, and I have to get going soon myself." Though this had sure been a fun night of conversation!

"Ha! Like I can get snatched. If anyone tried they'd be in bad shape before sun up." She nodded a bit full of her self the began her way back down the snowy slope. She hummed an old tune softly to her self to help pass time. She didn't have much to talk about anymore. Her mind was clear minus what they had spoken of this night. "Hush child...darkness will come from the deep...down into sleep..." The words came softly vanishing altogether at points though her mouth was still moving. A dark melody her mother sung to her while in her basket. One she had grown quite fond of.

Looking about she couldn't remember this trip being so long. Of course they had always run before. Now there was no rush and no want to race so she'd just suffer going at an, what she called, 'agonizingly slow' pace.

"Tell me about it; if anything, you'll be protecting ME from being snatched. Not that anyone around here would try to snatch me, but it's the same principle."

They must have made an interesting pair of silhouettes; the larger winged stallion strolling beside Amoena's dainty and shorter form. But for once, Safi wasn't adding to the conversation as they walked down the hill towards Amey's teepee; for once, he was silent, simply listening to her sing.

Amoena glanced to her uncle a bit unsure of what was going on. She wasn't used to quiet especially not from him. It seemed like Safi always had some sort of snappy comment or at least a bit of something dumb. Last time she was with someone this quiet she was in the desert and she had started singing, but since she was singing already it didn't help. "What's eating you Uncle? Some fungus?" She laughed at her self then looked away. It just felt odd to be in such silence as she had waited so long to be heard.

She decided to watch the scenery pass at each step. The small settlement of Native homes got closer and closer. Her time with Safi was running out but that was okay. She was sure she would see him again sometime in the future if not sooner.
