Maea threw caution to the winds. "I had no idea you'd be here when I made my plans, I really, really wish you hadn't gotten me involved, and get the heck out of my way right now if you please because I would like to be gone about half an hour ago and if you don't, the priestlies'll want to know why you're keeping a Celestial hostage, because what else do you really expect them to believe that I am?"

"Your response is suitable enough for me." Faelin returned with a grin. "And I fear none of those below. I, unlike you, came prepared. Would you prefer to escape immediately or shall I leave your egress up to the fickle whims of fate?" Maea noticed he was edging away from both the window and the door. "I happen to know of a better way out." he taunted. "And unless you wish to take the fall for this I would suggest you come closer. Much. . . closer. . ."

Maea hesitated a fraction of a second. But what choice did she have? She would never make it out in time, and she had just realized that if she was caught and he was not, then she would be blamed for the corpse on the bed.
All this went through her head in an instant; then she practically dove toward him. He was covered in blood; her clothes would be useless after this.
Funny how you notice the most irrelevant things when your life is in danger.

"Everything shall be without err soon enough." Faelin whispered to Maea, his eyes glinting as if enjoying some private joke. Raising one hand to the wall at their side he traced lines of darkness upon its surface.

"Khärähvís Sùr Rhäékhásha Dón Vhólískhá"

Muttering the incantation under his breath, Faelin finished drawing the symbol and suddenly grabbed Maea by the front of her shirt. Pulling violently he drew not cloth, but her shadow, away from her body. Stuffing it through the black void in the wall he leapt after his hand, pulling her along for the ride. Their entire world seemed to flatten and instead of navigating around objects they simply slid from the room of massacre into a dimly lit area. Maea found herself laying on the floor, shivering, her shadow reattached but lagging behind in its movements. Faelin simply lay on the floor ignoring the fact that he was staring at the underside of a bed while his own shadow slipped back into place.

"Most enjoyable, was it not?" he asked after a minute. "You had earned more for the bite, though I felt it wrong to see a vibrant soul such as yours imprisoned and sentenced for murder. Thus you are free. I encourage you to utilize the bathing facilities in the washroom before you leave. You carry the scent of magic and blood upon your very skin." With those words he rolled out from beneath the bed and stood up. The sound of straps sliding through each other drifted down and his shirt dropped unceremoniously to the floor.

Maea glared at him. "Two little fang marks are worth a death sentence? One bite, that you provoked by hauling me around? You ought to have your head examined, greshak." She paused. "That was... impressive." A compliment was as close as she was going to get to gratitude. She trudged into the washroom, where she made a valiant effort to remove the blood from her shirt. She liked that shirt. Shade's breath, but he was going to run afoul of someone stronger one day. She only wished she could be there to see it.

As Maea washed up she could hear a few noises coming from the bedroom. Most of them sounded like footsteps or objects being scraped upon other objects or dropped onto the floor. Occasionally however, she heard a short yet eloquent stream of profanity followed by a hissing intake of breath. Later, after a period of silence, someone started scrabbling on the door to the washroom. Shortly after a note slid underneath, written in flowing script, and addressed to her though not by name.

To the wintry wardrobe maiden,
---I meant not that your decision to punctuate your words by puncturing my hand was worthy of a death sentence, merely that it was worth more than the discomfiting experience of the Shadow Splitransmeld spell. I would not see you die so soon. The pain which you have so readily bestowed upon my so very sensitive extremity shall remain with me far longer than your occasional jitter.
---I trust we can call this off for tonight and I would greatly enjoy your presence when the night's environs conceal no more our true nature. You will discover when you are clean that I have permitted myself to become incapacitated though I warn you that disturbing my few possessions shall awaken me with great irritation. You may utilize the folding mattress in the closet. There are, as you will discover, linens for it in there as well. I wish you the best of dreams, whatever you may be, and hope to ward away the morning's chill in good company.
---With sincerest regards,
-----------------------------Faelin

Maea stared at the note, then in a flash of irritation summoned a spark of fire and burnt it, crumbling the ashes between her fingers. Setting aside the near-death experience, he disturbed a thief at her work and expected her to stay the night? "Crazy greshak." But she realized with some surprise that she was going to accept. She was curious.
Aside from his insanity, Maea had learned something else from the note: his name. If it really was his name, anyway. A useful bit of information, that.
She found the bed easily enough, and laid down to sleep with a sense of peace-- odd, considering the circumstances. Her last thought before she slipped into her usual light doze was that she hoped no one found her clothing in the alley. Those boots were the most comfortable she'd worn in some time.

Faelin awoke later than normal, his use of the Splitransmeld spell had nearly caused him to swoon that night. It had taken all of his reserve strength to put up the carefree front that he had adopted in front of the strange non-celestial. When he finally sat up he looked down to the crude bandage on his hand, soaked in blood, and experimentally tightened the muscles from his shoulder to his fingertips. Wincing in pain and nearly cursing again from the experience he began to slowly unravel the sodden mass of half-congealed bloody cloth.

His movements, though quiet, were enough to wake Maea from her shallow sleep; she sat up and stretched a bit. One of her wings had fallen asleep, and she shook it a bit to try to get the blood flowing again. "Morning."

"Morning." he responded, trying to look pleasant and awake. All he succeded in accomplishing was to shift some of his iridescent hair in front of one eye. In the darkness of the night prior Maea would not have seen it, but in the golden light of morning his hair shone like a sea of embers glowing quietly as the wind played across its surface. His visible eye blinked a few times and he stretched, yawning, revealing a pair of abnormally elongated canines. "Would you care to masticate and secrete enzymes with me?" he asked casually. "Or would you prefer to postpone such for later?"

Maea stared for a minute. "Do you use big words just to confuse people, or because you're too stupid to speak Common like the rest of us?" she asked, climbing out of bed. She looked a bit the worse for wear; no amount of scrubbing could rid her of a few stains, her clothes were rumpled and twisted, and her hair stood up on one side and fell flat on the other. Still, there were a lot of people who looked worse, especially after such an... eventful night. Another little gift from whatever spiteul god had designed her looks.
"Food sounds good," she added in answer to his question.

"Verily, to confuse or even inflame those of lesser mental capacity. It would seem that your intelligence and schooling far surpass your oft crude demeanor and, for such intellect, I shall greatly enjoy this morn. Now please vacate the immediate vicinity for I am not wearing any pants." that playful grin returned and he remained sitting as he was, only half covered by the blankets.

"Is that for your benefit or mine? I personally wouldn't care if you were dancing around in your altogether; there'd be nothing to hide that's worth looking at, greshak." Nevertheless, she walked into the washroom and shut the door behind her. Turning her back might have sufficed, but then, she didn't like to turn her back on anyone. Particularly people she had yet to fathom.

A little bit of shuffling and some muttered imprecations on the heads of whoever gave girls sharp teeth and Faelin was at least decent enough to call Maea back into the room. "What might it be, perhaps, that creatures of your not-so-delicate nature would find appealing to the papillae?" Though he had yet to put a shirt or shoes on he was already looking over his weapons.

"Anything that isn't still moving is fine with me," Maea told him lightly. "Though I do have a soft spot for sweets." She sat on the bed with a sigh. "Don't suppose you'd like to run a little errand for me first, though? I seem to have... misplaced my shoes and my cloak. In an alley several blocks away." She grinned. "I could get them myself, but it would require walking barefoot all that way, and I don't feel like it this early in the morning. By all rights, I should still be asleep."
