A moment later the door swung open and Talon practically tumbled out onto the porch. Initially, they'd planned to go to the clinic for the test together. At the last minute, he'd been dissuaded by Youko and Karma both, who had decided that it wouldn't make things any easier on Yeande if she had to deal with his panicking and cursing in counterpoint to the weight of the news. They'd seemed just as certain as Yeande did that she was pregnant.

And so he'd been waiting, nearly jumping out of his skin every time he thought he heard a knock at the door or a car pulling up that might signify their return. The only reason he'd taken so long to answer was because he'd had to navigate the stairs the first time he'd heard her knock and had succeeded in falling down them instead. The anxiety truly had him in rare form.

He paused in a dishevelled mess on the porch, panting, ears perked attentively. At the sight of her expression and the paper she was carrying, the perked ears began to wilt.

....ah, ********....

She turned as he opened the door, looking like she was ready to run. "Talon, I..." she started, then her voice started to shake. She couldn't say it... and she just handed him the paper with one trembling hand. It said everything on there, the tests that had been run, Dr. Jenkins' conclusions and what she needed to do to keep herself healthy during this. However long it took. No one was really SURE how long an Ijiuo was pregnant, because no one had ever actually tested another Ijiuo... if there were even any others.

He looked at the offered paper a moment before taking it from her. He didn't want to read it, but forced himself to anyway. Twice.

His eyes widened on their own until they strained in their sockets and the paper crinkled faintly as his fingers constricted on it. Denial instantly tried to speak up again and tell the rest of his brain that this wasn't possible. And if they ignored it, it would go away. Denial, however, was not getting any takers this time and hastily sat down and shut itself up.

He tried to say something, failed, and let both arms fall limply at his sides instead with a vacant 100-yard stare. Oh bloody hell, now what were they going to do??

She had to say something. "Y-youko said that I could have some of the stuff he's had left from Raven and Omi. S-so we dont' have to worry about buying much." Oh yeah, that helped. Glancing down towards the ground, Yeande sighed. "I have another appointment set up already so that Dr. Jenkins can check on the baby and make sure I'm doing alright. We're not really sure what to expect."

"Oh..." he said, unable to say much more. Somewhere off in the distance, a crow cawed. He looked like a man who'd just been told he had less than a day to live and that they still had to take daylight savings time into account.

So that was that, then...she was pregnant. He suddenly wished that the short little bald mustached doctor who had told him with a certain jaunty air about him that the test reported he had a nil sperm count was standing there with them at the moment. He would have taken great joy in wringing the man's neck.

How the HELL had that happened?? Maybe his body had gone through a period of stasis before kicking itself into gear after his manifestation? Or maybe God had just decided things were going a little too well for them lately. Because apparantly there WAS no such thing as worry-free sex.

He wanted to scream, he wanted to swear, he wanted to do all sorts of loud disagreeable things at the moment because any or all of them would have made him feel better, but he knew that they wouldn't do much for Yeande. She looked on the verge of tears and he was quickly getting there himself if he didn't calm down.

A hand reached out and placed itself on Yeande's shoulder. "We'll make it work." He'd been nervous the last time he'd said it. He'd hoped that they'd find some meaning or comfort in it now...but there was nothing. They were just empty words thrown together in what felt like a meaningless sentence at the moment.

Yeande chuckled wryly, glancing up to him. "We don't have much of a choice except to make it work. Raven and Glory are already plotting to drag me off shopping or some such thing... and I need to talk to Karma at some point and maybe get an idea of what I'm in for." Truth be told, she had a feeling she'd be going to the foxcoon a LOT over the next while. She was fairly certain that her pregnancy would take its own turns, but it wouldn't hurt to be prepared for it.

From what she'd heard from Youko, things could get downright scary.

"She's right inside..." he offered with a sort of soulless robotic air to his voice as he jerked a thumb over his shoulder toward the house, staring with terrible fixation at nothing in particular. The news was clearly still sinking in for him.

A baby. Them.

What the hell were they, of all people, going to do with a baby? This wasn't just some romantic notion of bringing a new person into the world, this was a life-long committment. This was something that was likely going to outlive the both of them and that they would be obligated to keep track of from now on.

And that wasn't all...she and he weren't exactly stellar people to take examples from when it came to life. Now they were going to be expected to pass wit and wisdom on to someone who didn't know any better to try and make him or her grow up correctly? He was no example to follow...dear GODS, he didn't even take his -own- advice!

He swallowed hard through a dry throat.

Yeande lifted up a hand, cupping his cheek and making him face her. "We can't be that bad at it... and we've got all the help we need. We'll be alright," she said, standing up on her toes to kiss him softly before she reached for the door. "Let's at least go inside... I haven't told anyone else yet."

He allowed the kiss, even made the motion of returning it, but as she touched him, she would note that his entire body had picked up a faint tremble and his skin had become clammy. He clearly was nowhere near as optimistic about it as she was....at least not at the moment.

"All right..." he nodded, reaching to open the door and needing to make several attempts at it before he actually got his hand around the knob and got it open, moving aside to allow her entry. Just as her explosion had come last night when she'd gotten him out of bed screaming, his own was due to come later. After she'd gone home and he'd cornered someone to force them to commiserate with him.

"Karma?" As she entered the house, Yeande called for the other woman, then slid into a chair at the kitchen table, resting her elbows on the wood and leaning her face into them. She wasn't nearly as 'together' about this as she let on and was scared stiff at the moment. She had no idea what to expect, what was going to happen, and least of all if she was ready to be a mother.

Today was going to go down in history, she was certain.

"Second!" came the answer from somewhere within the house as Talon sank down beside Yeande. Together they looked almost like a couple of kids waiting in the principal's office.

A few moments later, a door in the hallway opened and Karma appeared in the kitchen a moment following, hair still damp and a towel around her shoulders but (mercifully) dressed.

Her ears folded back slightly seeing who it was that had called her and she made a special effort to soften her voice and at the same time seem casual as she went to the fridge for a soda. She didn't need to ask, their expressions said it all, but she did anyway. "Hi Yeande...how did the appointment go?"

Glancing up at the foxcoon, Yeande looked as though someone had kicked her favourite bonsai off the balcony rail. "The home test was right," she said simply, waiting for the reaction. It was either going to be anger or amusement, she was pretty sure. "You've been through this already... what the hell's going to happen to me?"

Karma, for a brief moment, struggled with an urge to burst out laughing. Not because the situation was particularly funny but because it just....never failed. s**t like this didn't just seem to find Talon, it actively went looking for him with Talon-finding radar and an angstdart gun and this time it had dragged Yeande along for the ride too.

The look in other woman's eyes quickly killed that urge as she reminded herself that, in comparison to herself and Youko, the two ijiuo were children in adult bodies. Of course they were scared. She likewise supposed bitching at them about birth control was moot at this point. There really wasn't a lot they could do except start to get ready and the last thing they needed was to feel like they had no one they could turn to for help.

"Well..." she said carefully, sparing them her opinion on the matter, taking a seat across from them and wondering just how in-depth she should go. "right now is when its going to be easiest. The morning sickness is going to suck, I mean, but you'll get over that and once you do, you'll not only be keeping it down but you'll be eating much more. That's when its really nice to have your very own manservant." Saying so, she reached across the table and patted Talon on the shoulder.

Talon growled, like a dog in bad temper, but did nothing other than that as he was far too distraught at the moment. Karma wasn't even done describing the later stages and already he could tell he was in for a bad ride. Miracle of life, my a**... he thought sourly, his ears drooping.

Hearing the growl, Yeande slid a bit closer to Talon, leaning against him and nestling so that he had no choice but to put an arm around her... unless he wanted the pins-and-needles effect in his arm once she moved. It was an effective way to keep him from throwing things. "I don't feel TOO sick yet," she said, muttering on her own about the lost breakfasts and lunches that she'd been experiencing. "I'm just tired all the time. Lemme guess, that's normal too..."
