Kimi smiled at Safi, he made her feel a lot better about her problems, made her feel like she wasn't the only one with a dramatic life. "I hate my soap opera life," said Kimi with a quick and light laugh. "I wish it would just end, change to something lighthearted and feel-good, a comedy. You are very lucky that you have a comedy lifestyle. Not really suprised to hear that your life is a comedy, I've only just met you but can tell that your life isn't dark and twisted as mine." Kimi tilted her head and thought. How is a stallion like this still single?!

Smiling, Safi ruffled Kimi's curls with the tip of the wing she was wrapped up him. She was a decent kid, alright, which was quite remarkable given the life she'd lead. "Well, this chapter of my life is pretty light and energetic, I'll grant that; but that's all is it, a chapter. Without going into details, I can cheerfully say the last one was pretty damn dark...which is all the more reason to embrace the cherriness of the present!"
When it came down to it, the present was what truly mattered; a lesson he'd learned as he came out of the darkness. Worrying about what you couldn't change never helped anyone. "And at the risk of being forward, I strongly recommend that view to you; comedies are good for the soul!"

Kimi nodded, Safi was definetly right. The past is history, what she should be thinking about now is the present. Live each day to the fullest. "That's very insightful of you," said Kimi teasingly. "I'm sorry if I may seem invasive, but I need to ask. You're handsome, funny, smart and fun to be around. How is a stallion like you still single? You are the perfect guy!" Kimi smiled and laughed, for the most part, she was kidding, but at the same time, she was telling the truth.

Upon being asked such a loaded question, some stallions would have blushed; others would have been insulted, and still others would have been dumbfounded. In Safi's case, the answer was laughter; simple, amused laughter.
The question always tickled him, because as far as he was concerned he was far from suitable mate material. Being mated required seriousness, commitment, a sense of responsibility, and other things of that nature that he absolutely didn't possess. Consequently, he always took questions of the sort Kimi had just asked as a great joke. "Well, it's always flattering to be considered handsome, so my thanks for the compliment. But that aside, those things do not a relationship make. I'm not the sort to be mated, trust me." After all, if he was he'd probably have settled down a while ago; it wasn't like he didn't have enough mares around!
But now, if she could ask... "But what about you, Kimi? You're cute and sprightly, so why haven't you found some hopeless swain? Or is it that you can't decide on one yet?" The glitter in his eyes was evil, almost deliberately provoking; he was curious to see how she'd take such a point-blank question.

"Well, there is one, I just am not sure if he is the one," said Kimi. "But I do feel that I love him, but my relationship with him needs some more time to blossom and grow further. See if we are truly right for each other. If not, well, I suppose I will just keep looking. I do want to settle down and find a mate, I think it will help me mature and settle down, make me be more ready in the event I ever have children, prepare me for the responsibility of motherhood." "I love kids, especially the really young ones, so full of youth and innocence, they don't need to have their minds corrupted with the dark and twisted lives of others," said Kimi with a smile. "Do you like children Safi? I imagine you as a great father, or just great with children in general."

Ah yes, the ubiquitous "The". Not that Safi had any problems with the concept; on the contrary, he often felt that couples moved too quickly in getting themselves attached to each other, particularly among the younger set. Ever since his neice and nephew had grown up he'd been borderline apprehensive...though essentially without reason, since he knew them to be smart kids. But he was still allowed to mull.
Mulling or not, the icy stallion was still listening to Kimi, a smile on his face as he listened to her rather matter-of-fact view of love and mating. Straight-faced, he gave her a facetious look as he commented "So, you're saying that managing a mate will teach you to manage kids? I know that we stallions can act childish, but most are MUCH more mature than I am."
Having gotten in his little dig, it was a simple thing for him to move onto the next question. "But yes, I'm extremely fond of kids. I played a bit of a role in the childhoods of Amey and Kwahu; that is, my brother's kids; and have been helping out with the daughter of a friend of mine. Gotta love the spunk, eh?" And one only had to look at him to know he was being completely truthful.

"That's very sweet of you to help out with children like that," said Kimi, flashing off a warm heartfelt smile at Safi. He was so sweet. "What are those children like? Are they wild and hyper, or more relaxed? Anything like you?" Kimi thought for a moment what her own children may be like. Hopefully nothing like she was when she was a foal. Kimi was terrible to her mother and caused problems for most of the family.

If there was one thing Safi enjoyed, it was talking about the kids. Though now they were adults, he'd probably see them as sprightly little foals forever and a day. It suited them, after all.
Shifting his position slightly so that he could rest his head on a hoof, Safi's expression took on a tone of parental fondness. "Well, Kwahu, my nephew, is so much like me it's scary. Drove my poor brother nutty that realization did, but Kwahu managed to get Kohana even speaking to me again, believe it or not. I taught him to fly, and the rascal and I have always been very close. Amoena, his sister, is practical and a bit sassy; I only saw her once when she was a foal since her mother didn't approve of me."
Here his expression turned impish; not only had Luna not approved of him, she'd wanted him completely shut out of the kids' lives, up to the point she wanted her foster sister Jeevita to teach Kwahu to fly. As if! But things hadn't worked out that way, and Safi had very much gotten involved in the kids' life to the point that both adored him and even Luna had become fond of the silly stallion. But that was a whole other ballgame...
Moving back to the subject at hand. "But Amey and I have actually spent a lot of time together since she's grown; her mother did a good job raising her. As for Yue..." Once again, an impish smile. "She's a scamp and is turning her poor mother's hair gray every time she speaks. Pity, since Selly's hair is gorgeous, but what can you do? For some reason the little runt likes me, though, so I do what I can to help out."

"How could a mother not approve of you?" asked Kimi, shocked to hear that someone would not approve of a fun stallion such as Safi. "You must be amazing with children, you are so fun, every child must adore you. For a mother not to approve just sounds so strange to me!"
Kimi was not only shocked, but actually a bit upset and angry that someone would make Safi feel unapproved of. He was much to kind and nice to have his feelings hurt like that. Especially for something that Kimi found untrue. Then again, she didn't know the full story, but it did not matter to Kimi.

As a matter of fact Safi had been incredulous to learn that Luna disproved of him to the extent that she wanted to keep him out of his neice and nephew's life...but Kohana had taken steps to prevent that closing-out, for which Safi had been very grateful. The two brothers might not see eye to eye, but Kohana was making at least an effort.
Though on some levels, he couldn't blame Luna...exactly. She'd been involved with another stallion, but a touch of the two-leggers' firewater had done a great deal to her inhibitions, to the extent that when a total stranger like Kohana had come along...
Well, he wasn't one to pass judgement? He'd done the same thing, after all, but without even having the benefit of being drunk! In his case, though, he'd been lucky enough not to have kids to worry about. He knew that Amoena had only seen her father once, Kwahu his mother once, and that Luna had had issues about her former lover...it was very complicated, alright.
But that wasn't what Kimi was asking about now, was it? And it wasn't his story to tell, even if she had...
Smiling slightly, Safi gave Kimi a wink. "Well, she didn't know me too well, but from what she'd heard she'd gotten the impression I was a rogue and untrustworthy sort that would lead her kids in all sort of mischief and grief. On one level she was right; I DID circumvent her orders and hang out with her kids on the sly, but by that point she'd obviously decided I wasn't a scoundrel and was merely annoying." Happy endings for everyone!

Kimi smiled at Safi. "Well, if it makes you feel any better, I don't find you annoying," said Kimi sweetly. "I don't get to see many foals, but when I do, I love being with them. My sister has foals, from what I have heard, but I hardly see her. I have seen her maybe two times at the most since we were foals, sadly. And we were very very young foals at the time too. When she moved out she began to live with a stallion I'm friends with, Rahu. Rahu also had some other foal with him too, Selene or something like that, I never met her." Kimi once again stopped herself, realizing she was rambling again off-topic. "Sorry, I ramble a lot," she said with a laugh.

"Well, it's always nice to know that there's at least one individual I can delude into thinking that I'm not annoying. But on the subject of foals, I sincerely think you should spend some time around them if you're ever interested in having your own, though sometime parents don't like kids until-"
Though he'd been smiling with animation, all set to dive into the topic at hand, Kimi's last words caught him. "Selene, did you say? Blue mare, mane and tail the color of my socks, living with a dark stallion with an anger complex?" This was too funny a coincidence! "Well, I do believe we've got a link, Kimi; Selene, or Selly, as I call her, is a dear and close friend of mine; her daughter Yue is the other one I was just telling you about." Small world after all!

"As I said, I've never met her, but I think she is the same, based on your description of Rahu," said Kimi. Kimi lowered her voice down to a whisper. "Don't tell anyone, I'm supposed to keep this a secret, but Rahu isn't always as mean and angry as so many Soquili think he is, or at least, not to me he isn't. He's saved my life and done a lot for me when I was a foal."
Oh, Kimi was so terrible at keeping secrets. Which is ironic, cause the name 'Kimi' means 'secret'. Kimi was named that because she was a witness to one of Randee's secrets, where she accidentally broke one of Unesdala's favorite possessions.
"So, have you met Rahu or just know him based on what you have heard of him?" asked Kimi, tilting her head.

"Well, that's definitley an amusing coincidence, Kimi; Selly is one of my closest friends, so if she was raised by your sister's surrogate father, that makes you and me almost relatives!" By a very long stretch of the imagination, of course, but imagination had never been a problem for Safi!
Her question made him smile, though; he'd never forget meeting Rahu, not if he lived forever! "We met briefly, once upon a time...he thought I was too friendly with Selene and was right on the button letting me know that. Poor guy, I may have teased him a bit too much." Though the impish expression on his face let Kimi know that he STRONGLY disagreed with his words, thankee kindly. But then, there was no such thing as too much teasing!
"Of course, that was a long time ago, when Selene was bearly grown. And now she's got kids! I bet Rahu would still try to rip me a new one if he saw me again..." Not that that knowledge dimmed his grin any!

Kimi giggled lightly. It sounds like Rahu to be very protective, especially someone he cares about. It also sounds like Rahu to be more aggressive to a fullly grown Soquili.
"I guess you are right, in a weird way, we sort of are family," said Kimi. "Although, if you count yourself, then I must have a huge family. My two grandparents, their three children, my mother, my brother and my sister, my sister's three children, Rahu, Selene, you, your nieces and nephews you mentioned and their parent. Oh, and I heard that my grandmother, Frosta, is expecting more foals. And apparently my mother has a long-lost half brother. So, lets see thats, one, two, three...well, its a big family."
Kimi smiled at Safi, her sister's adoptive father's other adoptive sister's best friend. Okay, maybe they aren't related, but if felt comforting thinking Safi was part of her family.
