I don't remember him being given a key, but he spent quite a bit of time with them, so I'm guessing he must have been trusted with a key at somepoint.

I just watched the episode in question, he does use a key to open the TARDIS biggrin

Rose's key glows in Aliens of London, just before the TARDIS reappears. They never talk about it, but there weren't any odd circumstances--the Doctor had made a short trip, and when he came back, the key glowed.

I bet you he still has his key. He's hoarded as much as he can from his time with the Doctor (and without) so far, I don't think he'd have intentionally gotten rid of it. Since we haven't seen it yet...well, maybe it's just not relevant - yet.
Can't wait to see Jack's return in DW s3, though...hopefully we'll get a lot of questions answered then!!

And in Father's Day, Rose says that the key's hot when they realise the Tardis interior got thrown out of the time wound, then it's cold when the Reapers get the Doctor...

Did it? I haven't seen that episode yet.
So, did Jack know that the Doctor was there during the Auton attack, Slitheen invasion, Sycorax invasion, etc? Or, going even further back, what about all the other times the Doctor has visted the Earth between the fifties and now? If he did, why didn't he try to find him? Or did he?

There are documents on the Torchwood website that indicate Jack was around in the late 50s.

The Hand is back! Has anyone figured out (spoiler for End of Days) why a piece of Time Lord anatomy would glow in the presence of the rest of the Time Lord? Or was it glowing in the presence of the TARDIS? (spoiler ends) Maybe the keys are made out of Time Lord DNA.

Oo..Maybe. I never thought about that. It would be a bit freaky though.

@chrisgboyle: It certainly has taken off xd I never thought it would do this well.

Jack was at Torchwood in the 50s as in one of the books (I think it was Slow Decay) there was an object in the archives which had been signed in by Jack in 1955
