“He just must love handing clothes out.” She giggled a bit, imagining him as a maniac for throwing clothes at people, and accidentally snorted quietly. When she realized what she had done and how dorky she must sound, she frantically covered her mouth and nose with her hands, turning a bright beet red and clamoring to see if Grete had noticed.

“You know… He lives with a girl.” It wasn’t particularly hard to send Maxem into gossip mode, and this was a fairly interesting subject, as far as she was concerned. “He just called her a ‘friend’ so I doubt they are married… But maybe they are a couple. In which case, I certainly hope he hasn’t been acting charming to any young lass he sees!”

With this, she huffed, setting her hands on her hips as if he was already accused of being a cheat. She was, admittedly, a very energetic girl who expressed herself openly and flamboyantly, and gossip only made these habits worse.

“Did he flirt back with you? He was pretty amiable to me.”

Grete smiled back at Maxem. It instantly felt like she was back in school, gossiping over a guy. It had been a very long time since Grete had had one of these conversations. She usually kept everything to herself, and still figured that she'd do this partially around Maxem.

"From what I hear around here, they are just friends," Grete shrugged, "But I have no idea. You seem really worried about this, it's kind of funny."

Grete paused at this next question. She took a sip of tea, and tried to figure out how to say this. She wasn't particularly sure how Maxem would take information that Charlot seemed to be, well, a flirt. Grete didn't particularly feel like getting into any fights or anything this time.

"Uhm, I don't really know," Grete said lamely. When it came to lying to a new friend, she was always weak. While she is a good liar, she can never lie to someone that she doesn't know very well because she's not exactly sure what makes them tick. It's Grete's weakness, per se.

"I mean, I guess so," Grete added, to make her seem less obvious. But it didn't really work.

It took a moment of letting this information sink in before she came to her conclusion, grinning widely and acting as if she were some sort of super sleuth. She was dipping onto being overly flamboyant again, rubbing her chin as if she were a detective stroking his beard.

“Well then… If they aren’t a couple, then he isn’t cheating on her!” Her finger waggled in the air playfully, trying to make her point with body language. “So then he isn’t doing anything wrong. If I tried to scold him for being a flirt, I’d have to scold you too.”

Internally, she was a bit let down. But it was nothing; this was her new life. Maxem was fairly confident that she could out flirt Grete if worst came to worst, but if it turned into downright conflict, of if Grete learned of these plans, she could back down.

Couldn’t she? She had met a pretty nice man earlier, too. He couldn’t be too bad… Yes, Maxem finally determined, if it meant openly competing with Grete, she would sooner give up and move on to someone else.

Grete looked at Maxem suspiciously as she played detective. It seemed as if Maxem had a bit of a flare for theatrics, and Grete made a mental note of this.

"Aww," She stated, "You would've scolded me? Did you think I was some bad girl or something?"

Grete said that with a teasing smile, as she took another sip of tea. She had hoped that Maxem hadn't been offended or upset, but there was no real way to ask her. It would've been strange, and probably uncomfortable, if Grete had asked her if she had upset Maxem. Grete didn't want to add to the tension. If there was any. So, she kept silent, and sipped her tea.

“Well, I can’t very well be a hypocrite, can I? Scolding a man when you’re off doing the same, honestly!”

Maxem played back, rather liking this newfound sisterhood. It was fun to be casual and not have to watch her tongue on whatever she said, and being in a safe warm place with cookies was certainly a lot better than sitting out beside a crate.

“Hmm~ So am I going to meet any of your friends? I’d like the idea of being a little tag along, taken under your wing and chirping for worms every once in a while.”

Grete didn't quite follow all of the bird analogy, and kind of figured that Maxem didn't, either. Aside from the 'under your wing' bit.

"My friends?" Grete paused, thinking, "Well, you've already met Charlot. But other than that, there's Hadrian, and Phillipe. I haven't really spent much time with anyone else."

Grete thought, trying to remember if anyone else stood out. The only other couple of people that she had talked to for a while, either didn't like her, she didn't like them, or their was a mutual hatred for each other.

"Have you met either of them?"

It wasn’t particularly hard to notice that all the names were male and that slightly troubled Maxem. She shifted has weight, thinking if she could place the names to faces. After a short pause, she finally chimed in:

“I think I’ve met Phillipe, actually. Tall, scars, he likes to talk about moan—I mean mornings!” She collected her thoughts, moving on. “Yes, I’ve met him. He’s a good man; he helped my try to find my bags.”

Her face slowly shifted into a smile: maybe now when asked about her friends, Maxem would be one of them. That seemed like a good prospect. She was really starting to like the idea of having a sister; at the moment, it was all perks and no consequences.

"Yeah, he is nice. Brought me a package, which turned out to be lingerie, then I cut my hand and he fixed it," Grete broke off, realizing how odd this must all sound. "I guess it's kind of a long story."

She took another sip of tea, and glanced upwards. There was a window in her trailer, and despite the fact that it had curtains, she could've sworn she saw someone there. She tried to gasp while drinking her tea, and wound up going into a small coughing fit.

Once that was over, she walked over to the window, and looked outside. Nothing. No one. Grete shrugged it off, but she was still nervous about it. She coughed again, then rubbed her arm, a bit of a nervous twitch for her.

"Sorry about that," She apologized to Maxem, "So, who all have you met?"

Maxem was not ready to let that go so quickly.

“Wait, what just happened? Are you alright?” She perked up, walking over to Grete and giving her a concerned look. The coughing fit alone was enough for Maxem to burst into a fit of worry, but to add onto that the window suspicions? Far too much. It took standing on her tiptoes to be able to see outside, and even then she wasn’t sure she had gotten the whole scene.

“Hold that thought, please. I’ll be right back. I’m just going to check outside.”

It seemed like Grete’s paranoia was contagious, however, as Maxem then added:

“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”

Even Maxem wasn’t sure who that statement was made to reassure; Grete, or herself.

Grete quickly followed Maxem outside, and Grete began to walk around to the side of the trailer, where the windows were. Of course, there was no one. Grete put a hand on her hip, and with her other hand, rubbed her temples.

"I guess I was just seeing things," She examined the ground around the window, as well. "See? The ground is pretty soft. There would be footprints here, easily."

Grete laughed, and it came out a bit forced.

"Sorry for scaring you. I... I guess I've just not been getting enough sleep. Deprivation, you know?"

She kept her eyes open, looking about in the distance for any sign of movement.

“Maybe it was a cat… Or a money-rat-cat-thing. I saw one of those earlier, you know.”

With a critical look around once more, she surveyed the area again before looking at Grete’s face.

“Maybe I should let you off to bed. I wouldn’t want you to see anymore strange things.”

In reality, the fact that Grete had seen something was scaring Maxem a bit too. Surely, she would look for her trailer and find a place to stay tonight, no matter how late she had to stay out. Being out at night with strange things wandering around and even the confident Grete on edge was not a good sign.

Grete stared at the spot where she was sure she had seen something. She was fairly certain that it wasn't a 'money-rat-cat-thing', but she turned back and looked at Maxem anyway.

"Yeah, it probably was," She lied, and then shrugged her shoulders, "I guess maybe I should go to bed. I mean, I haven't slept very much in the last few days."

Grete gave one last glance at the spot, and turned to begin walking back towards the front of the trailer.

"Thanks, Maxem," She said, slowly, still thinking about what she had seen, "For everything. I'm glad to be your mentor. And I mean that."

“Thank you, really. I feel the same.” She was smiling, not her usual corny grin, but a sincere and somewhat demure smile that only cared to be brought out when Maxem was feeling particularly serious.

“I’m looking forward to spending time with you,” She then thought that the mood was getting just a bit to sappy, and flustered into a short bit of drivel.

“Now go get some rest! You’ll be no fun if you’re a mindless drone! Go now, hurry, hurry!” Waving her arms like a mother sending her tots off to bed, Maxem let off one last smile and a wave before turning and trotting off into the night.

Tonight was the night she would find her trailer, for certain.
