I don't use the whole opposites attract to describe Zutara. I agree with Zutara because they have chemistry/the potential for chemistry.
It is one sided love. And it is obnoxious. It's Katara's natural caring that you see when she deals with Aang. She doesn't love him like that, she just wants to protect him.
I seriously dislike Katara and Aang as more than just good friends.

And I seriously dislike the whole notion of Zuko and Katara together, because it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. However, I'm not going to use insulting terms or negative words to describe the relationship if I can help it. Also, caring is what starts love. You care for someone, a little seed of love is planted. Pending on how the relationship pans out, that love could be one of a million different kinds. Or it can turn sour, and turn to hate. ^^ So, I believe it is unclear as to whether Katara does love Aang as of yet, or not. I think it's there, but it hasn't been resolved within, yet, as to what kind of love it is.
I'll just say this for now, Katara definitley feels a connection and cares for Zuko. Your argument of "a little seed of love is planted" works for Zutara too. She cared enough to offer her precious oasis water to help him. She also feels for him because they share the same pain of losing family.

~My Cherie Amour~ It's neither. Crack implies it's totally crazy, and that hell has to freeze over before it happens. Ex: Ozai and Iroh, Katara and Sokka, Avatar Roku and Aang. Canon implies that it's happened in the show: Sokka and Suki is canon, Katara's mom and dad is canon. At the moment, Zutara is possible, but after the season finale, not probable. I agree, crack pairings make you go like THIS >>>> eek I dont like Zutara too much *no offense* but they still have a chance and they have a HUGE fan base too. hahaha that Avatar Roku/Aang one made me laugh xd

I'll justs say right now that I support Zutara more then Kataang. So naturally I do hope this happens. But to me both are still a possibilty but unfornately I think Kataang is more likely. Especially since ch. 1 of the 3rd season since Zuko is with Mai, but you never know this relationship may fall apart.

Of Ninjas and Pirates Butterfly Nebula Ah, the age-old question. I support Zutara more than Kataang on the mere chemistry of it. However, I think unless Zuko does something crazy-wonderful and Katara falls like a house of cards for him, it's not going to happen. Hm. Well. Actually. That 'not going to happen' thing is based on the whole Season 2 ending. Hm. Maybe if he changed his ways (again, darnit), she'd forgive him. She's one of those forgive-y people. I honestly don't know anymore. [Try to realize the truth.

I agree. Puppy love to the core, and then with the rise of Maiko . . . emo love. 'I don't hate you' is not the same as 'I love you.' Obnoxious compatriot verses honored enemy. Obvious and childish verses something deeper and more meaningful.

Sigh. This Zutara observation is going to need chapters.

Nathaniel Hawthorn wrote that in The Scarlet Letter (dun dun duuuun . . .) and I truly do love that book, if only for this line, and the scene in the woods. crying
Zuko has irritated the original feeling of hostility, and even though it was only once, it was bad, and now they are going to have to start all over again with that whole trust thing. But in Crossroads of Destiny, they did start that fragile work, showing that it is not impossible.
I don't like Kataang, and Maiko niggles at a point in my gut that makes me unable to decide if I like it or hate it. Since I hate the feeling of not knowing, I dislike Maiko. Since Kataang is essentially puppy love, I also find it annoying.
First crushes die hard, and it doesn't matter what world you're in. This is the reasonable theory behind all my ships, (Zutara, Teoph, Sokkue,) and it's based primarily in logic and experience.
Raise your hand if your first crush worked out indefinately.
And then there's the whole 'Aang is a monk' thing I just can't seem to get around. If I'm correct, the airbenders kept males and females on separate continents to protect them from such worldly troubles as lust and love.

That's not really all that bothers me, though. The core of my dislike for Kataang sits at the core of their characters.
The way things are now, I can barely stand Katara. She's so hypocritical and hypersensitive and she overreacts to everything. She cares too much.
Zuko, before his banishment, has consistenly done the right thing, only to get smacked over the head for it.
Aang, on the other hand, got the world into the mess that it is in by consistently doing the wrong thing. Yes, yes, the what ifs don't matter, but that doesn't change the fact that Aang has done some stupid, cowardly, completely idiotic things and then Katara's all like 'Oh, it's not your fault, you're just misunderstood!' (this is another reason I don't get along with some Zuko fangirls)
There is no way of knowing what would have happened if Aang had stayed at the Southern Air Temple, but he was about to be moved. It is very likely that he could have been in transit at the time the temples were being attacked, so he would have been completely safe. Then there's the whole, 'Avatar, master of all the elements' thing he seems to have forgotten. You know, kung-fu action Jesus? I don't buy that he could have done nothing.
To go down the list, he burned Katara because of his ADD, he stole the map to Hakoda, he's a monk, he puts Katara in danger just by existing, Oedipus complex, he has no backbone, it's too obvious, he's an idiot, he's a wussy, and he's way too easily swayed by the decisions and opinions of others.
Aang tells Katara he abandoned the world, and she's all comforting and caring and totally hypocitical in the way she'll forgive everyone for everything, but when it comes to Zuko's understandable if also idiotic reasons, he's just the devil incarnate.
Yeah. But she'll get over it, because she's Katara, and she does that. It will take a miracle, but when Zuko smiles three times in one episode (a feat thought physically impossible until the Western Air Temple), I'd say he's in the mood for completely rewriting the laws of physics.
The emotion that would be involved is also attractive in Zutara. Zuko hates Zuko, Katara hates Zuko, nobody loves Zuko except for maybe Iroh who would and should be seriously pissed at him. It takes a while for hate to become love, so if Nick does go through with it, I hope they do it's depth justice.
There is chemistry there, a deadly sort of chemistry that just might explode in their faces if they pursued it, instead of doing the prudent thing and leaving it alone, but since when has Zuko been prudent?
The answer to that would be never.
And Zutara being crack? Better that it is. Since when did love ever make sense?
