Mushroom Samba I had a practice in a hurricane... but that was the most fun I've ever had yeah we had a practice like that when a tornado got within 5 miles of the school before the directors finally evacuated us from the field and we all went down into the basement of our school and huddled together for safety........ sweatdrop

The worst we've had so far this year was when we were marching on the field right after it rained. The field smelled like horse s**t and it was so damned muddy! We could barely march in it.

((yay, first post in the guild biggrin )) Hmm...I've marched in humid weather on pavement (Yes, Pavement...so it's guarenteed to be at least 10 degrees hotter than grass), in hurricanes, in the wind, severe thunderstorms, haven't gotten hit by snow yet, but it's been cold enough to have mild frostbite on my hands from my flag. Good times, good times biggrin

We were at rehersal in extremely strong winds, lots of rain (Cold, hard rain), and lightning (Our band director wouldn't let us go in until the lightning detectors went off, because something happened at every practice to KEEP us from practice). 15 minutes into rehersal, we had to go inside because a funnel was spotted O_O
School was out for a whole month after two hurricanes came through (Jeanee and Frances). Took out majority of the marching season (we were in I think the 3rd week of school). We came back with two weeks to get our entire show on the field before competition O___O

Durza the Shade At MSBA championships yesterday, miraculously it was not cold or rainy, but the wind was awful. We march with square tarps on the field (painted as elements from the Periodic Table) and every time someone tripped on one the wind caught it and rippled it up, making it more of a hazard than before. One guard girl reportedly fell and got wrapped up in a tarp like a burrito, and a flute was hit in the face by a flag the wind had caught. At finals that night, they decided not to judge us, and the bands did a "festival" standstill type of thing, where we just stood on the track and played our show. Yup...... poor Amanda...... she was okay, but she's now the object of many jokes about past performances. xd

Hmm... for my band it was at a practice. We were doing a runthrough-- ahem, a performance-- of our show, when it started to rain. No biggy, or so we thought. The rain started to pick up, tremendously, and it was really windy. Watching the guard-girl's flags end up 30 feet behind where they through them was funny. But the rain had a cool effect on my quads.

Rememberance day parade... It was about -5*C and it was snowing when we got there. Then, as is warmed up a little it started to drizzle, followed by sleet, followed by a few minutes of hail. Then after that it just went back to some light snow... it wasn't that bad. It was just cold standing still for an hour and a half and having your 2nd vavle freeze before we had to march out. >__>

One year it was in I think 1996 and we had the city parade and we get there and in our uniforms and it starts downpouring. We had to march about 2 miles in the cold and rain and I was bound determined to play my heart out!
We got done with the parade and our uniforms were drenched! It stopped raining and we had to go back to the high school and put our uniforms on the shelves and everything! I was glad to have it over with!!

It was during a football game! The field was completely torn up and it had been raining all day long. So, the mud on the field in some places was over our ankles. It was cold though too so we were wet, extremely muddy, and cold. I honestly have no idea how we even survived that one. lol And out of 135 of us, only like three people fell.
We had another competiton like that too except the mud wasn't nearly as deep, but it hailed a few times.
For woodwind players who can't wear gloves, have your fingers ever froze so much that you couldn't move them and they stuck to your instrument too? Sadly, I have a feeling I'm not alone when I ask this...
EDIT: Ha! I almost forgot! We had a football game once where we were marching out onto the field, but we had to evacuate because there was a tornado in the next town! ^^
