~~~ from here on Marx will be known as ... Orarion ~~~ Mecca nodded and took a sip of his tea. He really, really didn't like this and the sooner Orarion was out of their house the better. "I do not want it destroyed either." He said softly. "I will talk with him when we return and make sure that he is not bringing danger to our doorstep."
They arrived back at their gate just as the sky decided to open up. Laughing as she was drenched, Covet gathered her skirts in one hand and ran up the path, hopping up the steps to the porch. Sweeping her bangs off to the side, she turned to face Mecca.
"I'll be in your library so you can talk to him alone," she said softly as she stepped closer to him. Smirking a little, she ran a finger down his crimson chest. "Unless if you want me there," she said with a small shrug and flicking her green eyes up to his. In truth she was terribly curious to hear everything that had to be said, but she wouldn't push Mecca into letting her sit in if he thought it would be better if it were between just him and Orarion.
Mecca watched her and smiled, looking out to the driving rain and feeling to cold air begin to chill his skin. As she ran her finger down his chest his eyes followed it and he looked up to her eyes. Slipping his hand up into her hair he kissed her roughly for a moment. Breaking away as lightening lit the sky again. "I want you there." He said low, his eyes still on hers and his hand still entwined in her hair. "Anything he has to say I want you to hear."
Grasping his coat in her hands, Covet smiled and returned his kiss with as much fervor as he gave. Slowly opening her eyes, she kept them on his and smiled softly at his words. As the angry roll of thunder cracked, she swallowed hard and fought the urge to cling to him more.
"Shall we then?" she suggested softly, shiverring a little as a cold gust of wind swept around them. Smiling, she pressed a soft kiss to his lips and pulled away to step into their warm home.
The priest was awake and sitting up he had a book in his lap. One that either Mecca or Covet had left there at some point. It was pretty dull as books go about herbs and gardens. Closing it he looked up as Mecca entered the room carrying tea. The female trailing behind him.
"Here." Mecca said, handing him the tea and taking a seat next to the bed. He was certainly looking better than the day before. "I want you to tell me why the hell you are here." He said slightly irritably. "You know I didn't want to see you again. Why come here?"
Covet walked in behind Mecca and stood beside him as he sat down in the seat beside the bed. Leaning on the chair, she looked Orarion over, glad to see that he seemed to be doing much better. At Mecca's abrasiveness, she glanced down at her crimson companion and bit the inside of her lip. She promised herself she would not get in the way. Mecca had to handle this his way.
Orarion smirked and looked down into the mug of tea. "Keep your enemies closer." He said turning to look at Mecca. "I came because I need you to hide it." He said, his voice low. "The relic. They want it back and I cannot allow that. You know what would happen if it fell into hands darker than ours."
He sighed and took a sip of tea. "I won't say any more. Not with her listening." He said gesturing to Covet.
"First off, 'her' has a name, and it's Covet," she smirked and arched a brow. "I will remind you of it only once, and since it is I who saved your life last night, I think you can afford me the courtesy to use it," she said, levelling her green eyes on his ice blue ones.
"Secondly, this is -our- home. Anything that you have to say to Mecca, especially regarding anything that will put our home in danger, you -will- say it with me listening," she said simply. His request made her nervous. She had a strong suspicion that Mecca would not be dumb enough to allow the thing to be hidden here, but then... the shu priest had managed to entice him once before. Not an easy feat by any means.
Mecca looked to Covet and tried to supress the smirk that wanted to cross his lips. "She's right." He said looking down at his hands. "Show her some respect. And I am hiding nothing for you. You can stay here until you are well and then you are leaving. I keep my word. I do not want you near me. Is that understood?"
Orarion narrowed his eyes and looked between the two of them. Fine he would let them play their game for now. He had other ways of getting what he wanted. "Fine he said irritably." looking back down to the tea. "One more day and I will be out of your hair Mecca."
Covet breathed out slowly as Mecca supported her and flat out refused to allow Orarion his request. She didn't like the look in his eyes or the tone in his voice, but as long as he left by the next day, then she didn't care. She wished that they could do as Mecca had suggested and try to dissuade him from his obvious self destructive path, but such instances in her past made her wary now and he did not sound like he wanted help beyond his own selfish needs.
"Right. Lunch should be ready in an hour. Perhaps you should try to join us downstairs," she suggested and looked him over once more. Placing her hand on Mecca's shoulder, she gave it a light squeeze, then turned to walk out of the room.
Orarion watched them from the darkness. Sleeping peacefully as though there were no worries in the world. He had thought Mecca was worthy of the power they had sought. Worthy enough to be trusted with its care.
He narrowed his eyes as he watched him sleep, the female in his his arms. Oh how the mighty fall. he thought as he inspected his nails. If it wasn't for the female he would have convinced him to help. The relic would be Mecca's problem and he could be far, far away.
He smirked again, slipping carefully out of the room and back to his own.
Covet woke the next morning with a stretch and yawn. Rising from bed, she got dressed and sleepily made her way down the stairs. Getting the fire ready for cooking, she smiled as Meepo came out to join her as he did every morning. Setting him up on her shoulder, she scratched him behind his downy ears as he chortled in her ear and she began to get breakfast ready.
Mecca had left early that morning. he had an appointment in town and really could not miss it.
Orarion knew this of course. He had heard him leave. Smiling to himself he dressed and walked down into the kitchen where Covet cooked alone. "Good morning." He said pleasantly, smiling at her. "I would like to apologise to you about my words last night."
Covet turned at Orarion's greeting and studied him for a moment, before turning back to the stove, a small smile curling the corners of her lips. "You're forgiven," she replied and put their food on some plates. Smiling more, she picked the plates up and carried them to the table. "How are you feeling today?" she asked, reaching up to sweep some of her hair out of her face. She gave him a quick once over and noted that he seemed to be doing much better now. Returning to the kitchen, she grabbed some cutlery and two glasses of juice then turned back to the table, sitting down in front of her plate.
"Good." He said with a smile as he took a seat at the table. "Mostly thanks to you." Running his fingers through his hair he sighed and looked up at her again. "I meant what I said you know. You are a really talented healer. I'm lucky you were here."
