"I'm from around, in the desert, and I've been visiting here every once in a while since I was little. How about you?" Kamin didn't seem used to the desert at all, so Larkin supposed that he was from somewhere else.
He looked up upon hearing the splash and instinctively hung back a little, then made himself continue, smiling absently at the kid's antics. Now that he was near the fountain the air was markedly lower in temperature and he could feel the mist on his face. Just get it over with, he thought, and without giving himself time to hang back any more he leapt into the water.
It wasn't that cold, really, but it felt absolutely freezing to him. He rolled underwater for a moment and lunged back out, sending sheets of water flying from his wings to splatter over the ground. With one violent shake he gasped a breath, then he stood there dripping and panting for a moment, waiting for the chill to subside.
Remembering the other two, he turned, shaking water and hair out of his eyes and laughing a little at himself. He wandered over to a sun-warmed spot and flopped down without a word.

Never the rebel, Kamin joined the others in the cool water, happily swishing his small tail letting the liquid wash away his sweat. He hadn't really been overheated in the sun; his fine hairs were a great adaptation for the heat. He had, however, been uncomfortable, but now he was at home. At least, sort of. He was a bit large for the fountain, after all, and it wasn't salt water. He moved out of the fountain quickly, taking up a spot in the shade near by Larkin, facing little Gabe who was still going out it in the ripples.
"I'm from the southeast," he nodded towards the other adult, "from the tropics." He missed the palm trees dearly, which he would've added if it weren't for their location. There were palm trees in an oasis but... They just weren't the same. It was something the Malu couldn't truely explain. "My birthpack lived in a cave on the beach. I love the water, but you know... saltwater is just more enjoyable for a good swim. It burns the eyes and tingles the skin, but it's all part of the experiance." That last bit sounded a bit crazy, but hey, Kamin figured Larkin was mature enough to respect others' opinions.

“Booooreing!” Gabriel called to the two chatting Males, who were NOT in the fountain. He pouted slightly slumping over the side of the fountain, his front legs dangling rather depressingly by the edge. “Why you leave?” he called out in a rather demanding voice. he continued to let the water fall on his rump, ignoreing as it ran up his slanted back, casue a small stream of water to trickle off his muzzle

"Saltwater, hm. I've never seen it before." He set his head on his paws and closed his eyes. "I'm not much of a swimmer, as you can see."
At Gabriel's call he smiled without moving or opening his eyes and replied, "I'm clean enough now, aren't I?

Kamin smirked, watching the pup with interest. He let his thoughts drift over the possibility of having his won some day, maybe even soon. He had to admit the prospect of having his own little ones to worry about was slightly daunting; if he didn't care for them right they might not make it. That's what the mothers are for, after all, aren't they? To make sure the dad doesn't kill their kids? At least, that's what /his/ mate would have to do. "'Cause I've got to get going soon, and I don't want to be wet."
Turning his head towards the adult, he nodded politely. "I figured that." He laughed a little, having noticed the male's lack of interest in the fountain. "Saltwater is entirely different from the freshwater stream here. It's monsterous, almost, and supports more life than any Malu can imagine." His words were affectionate, a lopsided smile permantley slabbed on his face. The oceans were his element, his home. He could talk about them for hours on end.

Gabriel stares at Larkin blankly for a moment… yeah… ok sure the adult did look clean. But Gabriel didn’t want t play in the fountain alone. “no” he said with a mumble. Then turned to frown at Kamin

Kamin reached out with his paw, patting the little one on the head. He had grown fond of him, that was for sure. He was an annoying pup, most deffinatley, but he hit a soft spot somewhere in Kamin, and that's all it takes. He smiled for a moment, and then spoke. "Well, I have to get going. I want smoked fish for dinner, and if I don't get back to my pack and get some started on a fire soon, it'll never be done in time." He turned his head to Larkin and gave a nod. "It was nice meeting you, Larkin. Hopefully, we'll run into eachother again soon." His words were true; the male had a certain air about him that Kamin very much enjoyed. Turning back to Gabriel, he smirked again. "See you around, pipsqueek." And with that, he took his leave, heading towards the well beaten path to the Nature Pack.

Gabriel Groaned loudly at Kamin patted him on the head and started away. "Awww! Baldy no fuuuunnn" he pouted. watching the adult go. still pouting he turned to Larkin. remaining silent for a while to make sure Larkin understood how upset he was. "you come in the water now" he said, as if it was a demand and not a request.

At Kamin's mention of starting a fire, Larkin grinned. "I'm sure we will," he replied. Then he turned his attention back to Gabriel, who was whining.
"Hmm." He didn't really want to go back in the water, so he started stalling, playing around with the kid a bit. Shifting himself in fake nervousness he eyed Gabriel suspiciously and said, "But... but you're going to splash me. I know you are."

Gabriel pouted a lip out suspiciously at Larkin "... No I won't..." he said in a tone that was ODIOUSLY lying "I won't spash you. come iiinn da wwaaattter" he wined again, wiggling with impatience and kicking his hind hooves to splash the water around. "Gabe no spash" he lied again

Larkin laughed. What a crazy child. He stood and shook sand out of his fur. "How about we make a deal. If I come in the water, you have to come help me gather wood to build a fire later." With a devious smile he added, "And, you know, after we're done, dancing around large fires at night in the desert is kind of cool. If you're interested." He said "dancing" as enticingly as he could in hopes of catching Gabe's attention. A helper, even a helper who seemed to enjoy trickery and might not end up being very helpful, would be nice.

Gabriel taught for a moment, but the moment the word dancing came up, his ears and head perked up. well that did sound like allot of fun. and he would both get to play with Larkin in the fountain, and later dance around. he didn't see a down side to that. though he did not really want to help get wood. he nodded his head energetically. "OK!" he yelled jumping back and pouncing with twirls as he made his way around the fountain.

"All right then, here I come." Sighing inwardly, Larkin sidled over to the fountain, keeping a smile on his face. What am I getting myself into, he thought as back into the water he went. It was cold, though not as cold as last time because he was more prepared. He watched Gabriel going around in a circle and tried to keep as much of himself out of the water as possible.

"Yaay!" Gabriel yelled as Larkin came back into the fountain. a little to enthusiastic. the young one bounded over towards Larking. screeching to a halt in front of him, causing water to splash up and hit the worshiper of heat. Gabriel plopped down grinning at Larkin "oops. sowwy"

He let out a bark of a laugh, part shock, part horror, part amusement. Skittering around in place and shuddering, he himself inadvertently sprayed water everywhere, but he did manage to stay in the fountain.
"Oh -- I see -- that's how you want to play -- !" he said, panting, his green eyes lit up with a childish excitement. He dipped down and spun to the side, using his waterlogged wing to send a wave over the little Malu. "Then let's play!" He laughed and scrambled around to the other side of the fountain before Gabriel could retaliate.
