We don't have a cymbal line for our band. We have pit and crash cymbal parts in pit, but no actual cymbal line. It's not a horrible thing, really... we're one of the best in the state.

Thats lame. Cymbals are just as important as the drums. (glares at people who think they aren't) If not for the music, Cymbals are AMAZING for visuals. I hope you get to stay in band, its lame that they are taking out cymbals.

I'm in middle school and we have a marching band with cymballs, but the high school only has cymbals when we do parades because it's kinda hard for the pit to drag xylophones around while marching biggrin ...does that count?

KatannaSan Blckpanthr13 Northwest USA= No one has cymbal lines. It's exciting when we see one in indoor. So, I'm on the West coast as well.... Yeah but are you in the NWMBC Circuit? (We're pretty isolated up in our little corner of the country)

My marching band has no cymbals.
Our cymbal player went to bells, then quads.
The cymbal player before that went to bass drum.
But he graduated.

It will actually depend on how many drummers your instructor wants, like ours is okay with the idea, but not too bright with the fact that I might be next year's fall semester cymbal captain....

That's really unfortunate! The cymbals are cool. A cymbal kid is going to be Drum Major next year in my school.

Our band is cymbal-less, with the exception of parades but competition is the real deal. Regardless, a better name for pitt is the "Front Ensemble"!!! mrgreen And on that note. GO to the "Front Ensemble" i promise you wont regret it. And you'll realise how amazingly difficult Marimba can become. You know what I want for a parade? I want two people to crab step on either side of the marimba in a parade so I can bust out my skills lol. But then again parade music is way boring. The American composers don't appreciate the quality of a good mallet tune. Well, thats not fair. The Patriotic songs dont. And when they do its all bells. Bells=LAME... They're too small. You cant 4 mallet on bells.... crying

grey-monotony I Poot Lime Green Chaos grey-monotony how can a marching band be cymbal-less? that's outrageous!!! well, hope it works out, pit's not the bad if you can read notes and not just beats. To AllThe Monkeys And Such, I KNOW RIGHT, i used to laugh at the poor bands with out cymbal's, but now, my band has become one of them crying ~Says The Satchmoe ouch! that sucks! well, atleast when the freshmen come in you'll have some hope. To AllThe Monkeys And Such, yus, the new year has come and WE HAVE ONE CYMBAL PLAYER, which is FANTASTIC and he's pretty dam good too ~Says The Satchmoe

Wen I was in band for my old school, I played the xylaphone. It was my only instrument. However, we didn't have cymbols for the band and my band director wanted someone in the band to pick them up. Seeing as how I was the only precussionist in the band who didn't have to move when we marched our shows, I got the part. I really enjoyed doing it. Now that my sister and I arenot in that band anymore, eveything has went downhill. They don't have Xylaphone or cymbols anymore, and no one else ever shows up to practice and shows. crying
