He stops when he finally arrives..and slips down to one knee..reaching out to touch her face. This was the new friend he'd made..was it really so bad that someone with her spirit could be hurt so bad..? Hollows, reaching the actual living place of the shinigami..even if they were on the outskirts, how could it have come to this? There's nothing to say. He gently reaches out and lifts her..he'll take her into the city, to seiretei, to the medical ward at the academy. He can't let her die, not yet. It isn't time, and this nagging voice is telling him to keep her alive.

With that, he starts running..heading back towards the academy..he'll run as fast as he can..cradling her figure against his as he runs.

Stepping into the ruined ground that was once her beautiful grove, she shakes her head. Soil was upturned, small craters littered the ground, and the place where she had found so much solace had been.

Ruined.

Was this some type of significant event, something to push her forward in her life? She knew that eventually, she would have to stop visiting the grove, but she hadn't planned on it being so soon.

Sighing, she shrugged out of her haori, and scouted around, for just a few brief moments, before she located what she was looking for.

She would heal the land, as best she could. She knew the entire place would take time. Probably a summer or two, before it was fully healed. Before everything was back in place.

With a small garden type shovel in hand, she knelt, at the edge of one of the craters, and carefully, began to shape the dirt downward, back into the hole it had come from. Luckily, the craters weren't too deep.

There on her knees, mud soaking into her hakama, she worked the land, propping herself up with one hand, her hair falling forward over her shoulder. She worked the soil for quite some time, filling in one crater, before standing, to move to the next one.

Each time she stopped to fill a crater, her hair fell forward, into her face. Finally, growing tired of the constant brushing against her skin, she pulled her hair back into a tight, but somewhat messy ponytail, pinning it in place with a skillful twist of fabric around it. Sighing, though with a more thorough note of happiness, she went back to her task.

The place, no doubt, was a wreck, but she knew she'd spend as long as it took here, to take care of it, and make it her own again. She did however, swear mentally that she'd never again let a hollow desecrate her secret glade the way that one had. Not only that, but never again would such a creature get so close to killing her.

She propped herself up after a few moments, a smudge of dirt here and there, the entire area looking a sight better though. Next, she had other things she needed to do. A small fence would need to be built, for her strawberry patch. After all, she planned to stay out here. Maybe, just maybe, she could go through the motions of building a lean-to. Against one of the trees for support, it might not be so bad.

Moments passed. And then minutes. And then hours, as she worked. She had been working the land with her hands for as long as she could remember. She just knew, above everything else, that she had to do this. Not just for herself. She needed to get stronger, and this was a way for her to do so.

She labored away her afternoon, as hours slipped into evening. Shattered fragments of tree were gathered, and she placed them in a strategic pile, surrounding them with smooth stones, ones she'd gathered quite some time ago, from the river just downstream. Her hair was damp, from the work she'd been doing, and she could feel fatigue setting in, as she finally readied the area for herself to get some rest.

Once the fire was glowing, as the pale light of evening set in, she pulled her haori back on, and made herself comfortable on a soft patch of grass, sprawling under the early evening sky, gazing upwards, through the trees, at the stars above.

"Fate. Fate is such a funny thing, ne? You think you know something, and it turns out, you really don't know anything. I wish, sometimes, that I could be up there, and touch the stars. Maybe Megumi is right. Maybe I'm not really a dog in the streets. Maybe I never was." she smiled a little, at that thought. It was an attractive one, really. That maybe she'd always been more than what she thought. That maybe, where she came from, wasn't the only judge of who she was.

"I'm glad I met him. Very glad." and she turned then, pulling her cloth free from her hair, as she curled toward the fire, the warmth radiating, soaking through her skin, as she drifted to sleep, the soft whispering of her zanpaktou echoing her own thoughts.

She had been up and moving for several days now. Slowly, the landscape was beginning to take shape again, but something not quite strange had found its way into the equation.

The ground was covered with a thin sheet of frost, and suddenly, her thin pieced together kimono was no longer warm enough to keep her comfortable.

Of course, the fire she had in front of her was doing its best. Off to one side rested an axe, and a chisel tool, as well as some long gut-rope, and a few other necessities of life, as they were. She was planning on building that lean-to still, but she knew it would take time she didn't currently have.

That was alright though. She could, and would manage for now. Standing, she expediently extinguished the fire, and covered the tools, to prevent rust. The first thick snowflakes were beginning to fall, and she knew she needed to get back to the Academy.

The inviting warmth of her bed was a comforting thought, and she headed out of the thick forest, into the surrounding areas. She would make her way there, eventually. For now, she was concentrating on moving to where she needed to go.

After all, it had been.. a while. She wondered if Megumi would be willing, and able, to talk to her.
