I love Bella to death. I felt terrible for her when Edward left. I wasn't surprised by her reaction. I mean, she was in love with him. He got her. He was her best friend. And then, he says that she's not good enough for him, that he no longer likes her? I'm sure if you were as close as Bella was to Edward, you'd act the same. I wasn't surprised when she jumped of the cliff; I saw it coming as soon as Jacob told her about cliff diving.
But, I did feel like throwing the book against a wall repeatedly when she said no to Edward's proposal. I was like, "WTF, Bella? WTF."

I guess that's one way of looking at it...if you haven't been in love.
When you encounter your MBD (soul mate), things change. Your life changes. When he up and leaves you like that...after ALL you've been through...your entire soul leaves with him.
She was soul-less, and that is why I felt awful for Bella and slightly pissed at Edward.
And like her, I tried hoping and wishing that he'd come back...
As for Bella being the damsel in distress...hardly. It's not like she WANTS to be. But what can Bella do against a vampire or werewolves? What can she do...she's only human.
She may be the heroine of the series, but strength isn't just manpower or vamp-power...it's so much deeper than that. Which is WHY I appreciate Meyer's books.

Haha, I just read all that about the proposal. Obviously none of you girls have been in that position. x'DD
When you get older you'll understand how hard things are to decide on. My best friend and her soul mate...I know they're going to get married one day, but not now. They aren't ready for that.
Yet they know they're going to live together until death. It just works that way. There are so many other things to consider, including parents, friends, education afterwards and a career.
Marriage is a scary step. It's one I'd want to take, but not yet. >__>'''

Heidrich Like Bella I’ve always wondered why Edward loved her that much. She didn't really DO anything that significant to hold his love(1)… the romance seems farfetched. But then again there’s nothing ordinary about vampires and werewolves. What irritated me the most was how easily she believed Edward when he ‘broke up’ with her. It was so obvious that he’s just trying to do what’s best for her. Fine, be emo, cry your eyes out, hyperventilate, or jump off a cliff. That’s expected, but the little faith she had in him made the romance fake. (2) It didn’t feel like love… more like an addiction—like “oh if I’m lucky today he’ll want me”. Gezz, if it’s true love then there’s got to be a connection and some sort of mutual understanding and she would have believed in him a lot more (which she didn’t)—not just raw desire to be with each other. She wouldn’t have gone insane because she thought Edward didn’t want her anymore but because of denial. She would have known he’s telling a lie… (1) Those are the words used by the type of people that only have a grasp on human relationships as something to be USED. Or "people use each other and that's the end of it". Very narrow-minded. When you love someone you can't help it. You don't point at someone and think: "Hey, she really helped me out a lot the other day...maybe I should fall in love with her."
What is far-fetched is the thought that people can love each other for what they DO, not WHO THEY ARE.
(2) With someone as hot as Edward, it's easy to be blinded by your own insecurities-and Bella is REALLY insecure. She has to work on it, but underneath it all she knew he was lying to her, she just wasn't listening to those instincts.
All in all, your arguments are poor and too superior for something as complex as their relationship-or other relationships, which exist almost exactly like that, in real life. And yes, they DO exist...minus the vampire.

thelastdinosaur ..while you read New Moon?
I was fine with Bella, and so was all of my friends. (Well.. mostly.)
Then we started reading New Moon and all she did was complain and cry about how awful her life was, even though she had Jacob. Not only does she complain too much but she decides to jump off a cliff so she can hear 'Edwards voice'.
And then Edward came back and asked her to marry him and she turns him down? Seriously, Bella, you're going to be with him for eternity if you become a vampire, so why not just say yes?
After reading New Moon, me and all of my friends from school pretty much thought she was an idiot.. What do you guys think?
((P.S. Sorry if I offended any of you Bella fans...)) Well obviously she was depressed because Edward left her, and she was in love with him. Even though she had Jacob, they started falling apart when he joined Sam's pack, and nto even eh could fill the "hole in her chest" left by Edward. AndI guess she loved Edward enough to risk her life ||quite a bit of times|| just to hear his voice. If you're ever madly in love with someone, maybe you'll see that jumping off a cliff wasnt the worst of all options...

Personally, and this was a surprise for me, but I didn't hate Bella. I admire her, because when I read New Moon, I was going threw the same thing. And even though Jacob likes her, and he is my fav. character, I still like her. She has emotion, and depth, and goes threw the same things I do, how can I not like her?

i wasn't really mad at bella. i sort of felt pity for her. Edward was her life and he left saying he didn't want her. that would crush me and i don't think i would have gotten out of the depression stage. but she tried to hide it so everyone could be happy and then Jacob came and helped. i didn't really like him because i sort of found him pushy but he was alright. just what i think

((P.S. Sorry if I offended any of you Bella fans...))People, you say that's what love is all about. Bella and Edward have been dating for barely a year. Stephenie Meyer says that the bond between them is like a husband and wife of ten years. I say," Think about it." First off, ten years worth of love can only gained by, guess what, ten years of love. You can't start off A, B, D, then all off a sudden go to letter K. There are others in between also. And my grandparents. They have been together for more than 40 years. Grandma has recently died. And you know what Grandpa is doing? He's trying to live. He's walking forward everyday toward healing. It may not be fast, but it is progress. Bella is an 18/19 year old girl. She has her whole life ahead of her. She has friends, family, and most importantly a future. What does she do? She sacrifices all of that? For Edward? What can Edward do? Be her "twu wub"? We're not in grade school anymore. This is life. Jacob loves Bella. Unlikes Bella's view on Edward, Jacob nows there are other important things. Like loyalty. Like family. He knows Bella is not the only thing, just the most important thing.

I hated Bella, but not for that. Edward left her and she goes to hang out with Edward's enemy! Doesn't she love Edward? Why do that? I was so mad, and Jacob isn't even as good as Edward. THere is no point on being with Jacob...

Zombie Tainted Coffee Edward is not just some run-of-the-mill guy. He is not some boyfriend Bella will dump after highschool. No, he is Bella's true love that she was sure she would be with forever (and I mean forever).
So, Edward, the love of Bella's life, just leaves without warning. "I don't want you anymore, goodbye." That's it. There is no way, unless you're emotionally unstable, that you could just move on perfectly okay after that. I think that you would have to do a lot of crying.
As for her not being happy even with Jacob Black... Jacob Black does not equal Edward Cullen. They are completely different in Bella's mind. He filled in some of that gap that Edward left, and she was happy when around Jacob, but that didn't change the fact the Edward left her.
As for the cliff...yes, that was incredibly irrational. I definitely would not do that. But remember that Edward was the person she lived for, and that was snatched away from her. Hearing his voice was the one thing she had of him with her. WELL PUT! Exactly what i think.
