I don't know that I play that many unknown games, but, I certainly have my hands on some ancient games that are hard to find.

Currently I'm playing too many games to count, which is a little annoying and cutting into my nightly 4 hours of sleep. .::.sighs.::. But, I keep myself very well informed on game news. Becuase, well, I work at an EB. So ... I'd be pretty SOL if I didn't know what was going on.

A hardcore gamer can be lots of things....Someone who plays counter strike for 13 hours a day and has a nice ranking can be considered a hardcore shooter gamer on X-Box live. They have don't have to know/do anything else.
My brother is considered a hardcore gamer by like everyone we know and all he does is play Counter Strike, Xenosaga, and Final Fantasies. Not a wide range of games.
I think the better question here is "How much are you into video games?"
I am "hardcore" in the sense that I just Love video games! [It's not an obession, it is a very intense hobby.]
While my brother honestly started me off on my love, I extended out more than he did.
As for weird games people might not have heard about, my favorites are The Misadventures of Tron Bonne (sp?) and The Bouncer. Also, Orphen. It surprises me that a lot of people haven't heard of Orphen though sad Another game that people seem to have never heard about is Tales of Symphonia.... ;_;
Another thing that people say makes me hardcore is that fact that I refuse to sell or trade any of my systems or games after I have bought them.
Like someone said, this is sort of a bragfest and like someone else said "hardcore" can be a lot of different things. However, I have gotten a few game titles I can check out biggrin We all learn from each other! heart

Orphen is a good game I really enjoyed it. Tales of Symphonia is a good game too!

I also really enjoyed Orphen and Tales of Symphonia. That kind of surprises me though. I kind of thought more people knew about tales of Symphonia.

Well it does have a purpose, seeing how hardcore us girl gamers can get, just to clear that up

The vibe I'm getting from this thread is its just a bragfest.

Theres only one test of hardcore gamer-ness, and thats beating Master Quest.

Master Quest? Is the LOZ:OoT you're talking about?

No, I think Master Quest is a different game. If it's the one I'm thinking of than that game kinda sucked. At least to me.

When I hear hard core, I think of gamers who play all day everyday and have every system and every best game and do a lot of pc gaming. I'm certainly not that, but I don't just play the popular games. I'm a mellow gamer I guess, I don't play for more than two hours a day and I go weeks without playing once I beat a game. I need a cooling down period. I don't try a lot of new games because of budget, but my brother always shows me good stuff. I depend on him to pay attention all things gaming cuz I don't have the patience for checking every day on a game review or anything like that. The only things I get really excited about are horror games and certain DS titles. But thats not all I play!

I can not say whether I'm a hardcore or softcore mainstream gamer.
I have been playing video games since I was a kid.
I mostly am a PC gamer but I own an Xbox(modded) emulators for nintendo and sega, an N64, PS2, PS, Gamegear, and plan on getting the Wii. heart

Should it really matter if you are hardcore?
As long as you play the games to play?

The games I typically enjoy are:

City of Heroes/Villans (PC)
Half-Life (PC)
Counter Strike (PC)
World of Warcraft (PC)
Doom (Xbox)
Aeon Flux (Xbox)
Stubbs the Zombie (Xbox)
Halo 1+2 (Xbox)
Zelda Ocarina of Time/Majoras Mask (N64)
Zelda (Wii)

And many more just a few of my favourites. smile
My Xbox has 99 games on it not including the arcade games and emulator.

I watch G4 (When my cable box is working stressed )
I read up on new advances in the gaming world, mostly for PC though.
And I just thoroughly enjoy gaming.

Whether I'm hardcore or softcore mainstream, doesn't matter.
What matters is "I game."

I think being a hardcore gamer is more about how long you play rather than what you play.....well....then I'm a hardcore gamer biggrin

Anyone played Ikaruga for the gc? Now -that- is an underground amazingly good game that very few people have played. A top down shooter with great graphics and the simplest of game play mechanics that turn the entire game into a zen like experience once you can accomplish it. Its amazing, I highly recomend it.
