ha ha... how ironic... im studying up on china for academic decathlon this year...

any of these names sound familiar?

mao zedong (this one should)
Chiang Kai shek
Hu yaobang
Pu Yi
the fists of rightous harmony

YAY FOR COMMY CHINA!
lol, Yeah Mao Zedong was the first chairman of The Peoples Republic of China, he wrote the Red book, otherwise known as the selected works of Mao Zedong.

Pu Yi was the last emperor of China in the beginning of the 20th century.

Fists of Rightous Harmony, basically a bunch of pyscho assassins who supported the Qing dynasty at then end of the 19th century, the ended up slaughtering Christian converts and missionaries. Oh and by the way there actual name was Righteous Harmony Society, but it got mistranslated and no one has bothered to globally correct the name.

As for the rest, no idea.

yeah, the fists were also called the boxers. on thing i learned about them was that they belived that through certain rituals, they could call down spirit soldiers and block bullets... that didnt work out too well for them...

chiang kai shek was the first leader of the republic of china which was cast out of china proper because the lost the fight. he was the head of the GMD.. (guomin dang...)

hu yaobang was a member of the third generation of communist supporters. it was his death and funeral that caused a whole bunch of students to flock to tianenmen(sp) square and get pwned by the commies... who thought mistakenly that it was an uprising.

One fun fact about China is that in the 1970's I believe that the Rolling Stones were comming over to give a Wrold Tour and one of the ambassadors said to the lead singer (Mick Jagger) That some of his songs were a little too "Sexually Oriented" and should be changed before the concert date. To which Mick Jaggers made a remark about how many chinese were alive and "The cats out of the bag on that one"

depends on if your using Wade- Giles or Pin Yin.... they are different romanizing systems... i happen to prefer pinyin, kuomintang is wade giles.

chiang kai shek is wade giles. jiang jieshi is pinyin.

Yeah, I'm doing an in depth (As in to the very core and then some) study of china in my decathalon class, yeah, it's nerdy as hell, but the names of some of their leaders keep me entertained enough to pay attention. I've learned more about the rhyme and meter of chinese poetry, music, history, art, good god...

But I never have learned about the grenades, that was somehow left out up till now.

Edit: Appears I'm not the only one on a decathalon team in this guild, hehe. I hope my team makes it to nationals, Hawaii beckons.
