I've almost finished an outline. It's a very, very long outline. I think I'll make it to 50k words...hopefully.

I've done a bit of preplanning, just in case I run out of ideas. I've got a very loose outline, a few character notes (don't do those sheet things), and a bit about the world that I'm setting it in, but not much else.
Hopefully, I've hit upon the magic formula to get me writing. I know this works for English essays really well. mad D

I already know my first chapter, and a couple ideas I want to throw in. I don't work well with written outlines, even though I always want to do them. Whenever I'm stuck in the car or I'm not tired but still in bed, I think out my story.

I had started out doing some pre-planning during the beginning of October. But I tend to overthink things if I spend too much time plotting everything out and planning every little detail. I end up getting sick of my idea and just scrap the whole thing.
Right now, I have a some sort of a basic plot set out [it's still rather iffy though] and the characters profiled. Other than that, I'm just going to wing the rest of it. It's more fun that way.

whee I outline the basic skeleton of a story first. I figure the setting, the conflict, and then I usually have character rolling in, placed in the world created. What happens from there generally takes a life of its own.
But, always characters. Characters get the brunt of my attentions just because they're the most important element to a story, so I feel.

I'm almost completely done an outline for my story. I have all the major (and some minor) plot points written out. Hopefully that'll help me make it through to 50k words!

nighsparrow Cruzle I try to preplan as little as possible because I thought you weren't SUPPOSED to preplan for the nanowrimo, according to its "rules". xd However, I will usually start thinking out vague shells of ideas about a week before things start... like today. 8D; The rules say it's fine to plan. You can do as much brainstorming, outlining, etc. as you want. I'd say it's even okay to say "This is going to be my first line" or "Someone in my novel is going to say this smart-a** line." You just can't write out paragraphs or pages and dump them straight into your novel. I've been trying to do quite a bit of planning, because without it, I tend to get lost. I bought a big white board and have been sketching out character connections and motivations. I have "Want + Obsticle = Conflict!" at the top, since it's that kind of plot-moving stuff that I have the hardest time with. I have lists of scenes I want to write. Ideas for interesting little exchanges. I know I still have to write out a family tree, since the main (non-romantic) relationship in my novel is between a brother and sister. I actually checked the rules and saw that, too! It's definitely crunch time, so I am definitely plotting like woah now. xd

Haha. Pre-planning. Well, I've done more than last year, that much I can say. Maybe I haven't done too much pre-planning (I'm not an outline person) but I have done loads of pre-thinking, and that should be good enough. Basically...I'm "winging-it." Anyone else in my boat?

I did rather extensive preplanning for my other NaNo efforts, but this year, I basically sat down and started writing. I suppose my preplanning consisted of a vague scene I'd thought of two months ago and hadn't thought of since.
This year, lack of planning was in direct proportion to the fact I was frantically job searching as well as dealing with a healing back injury. Those are my excuses, and I'm sticking to 'em.
Last year, I had terms, an outline, basic plot points, drew out a map...not so much this year.

I didn't plan crap. I said "I think I'm going to do this" on Nov 2nd, and from there I tried to figure out what I was going to write about. Half an hour later I said "I'm going to write Yan's story" so I started. That was the extent of my planning.

I didn't do any planning whatsoever. I do have a plan for a story lying round somewhere, but I didn't want to write that for NaNo, so I just quickly came up with another plot. I scribbled a couple of main points down and just started writing.
