Sephiroth is old enough to be your daddy hahaha syke he is at least 26-29

ZOMFG you people can be idiots (please forgive me) Sephiroth is APPROXIMATELY 30 something to 40 (look at the facts) read everyones posts before you post something stupid.....and no he wasnt 20 something..

I would say he is around 30-40. You have to take Vincent's age into considiration.
If anyone has a posotive age please tell me.

Sephiroth is within my reasoning anywhere from 30-35, though more accurately I'm going to say in FF7 he's 30 and in FF7AC, 32.

Sephiroth was presumably born a short time after Vincent was shot by Hojo and experimented on. This is noted by the fact that Vincent confronts Hojo on the basis that he is experimenting on Lucrecia and their unborn child, Sephiroth.

Presuming Sephiroth is born soon after Hojo finishes his experiments on Vincent, at the beginning of FF7 there has been a 30 year time gap. So depending on how long after Vincent's shooting Sephiroth was born, it's reasonable to say he is thirty, possibly 29. Though I'm going to go with 30 for the sake of simplicity.

At the incident at Nibleheim where Sephiroth murdered everyone, which if memory serves me well was set five years before the start of FF7, Sephiroth would be 25 with my logic.

So, Sephiroth would be just be entering his thirties at the start of FF7, and in his early thirties in FF7AC. If dead people age, that is.

Does anyone have a copy of the script from where Vincent joins the party?

So, based on what I know...

Fact: The main character's ages and birthdates for the original game are given. However, the year and date when the game starts, or how long it lasts chronologically is not given. The events seem like they take place over several months, but that's just speculation. Also, for the ages you are given-is that the age they are when the game begins, or at the time they join your party, or when the game ends? Does anyone have a birthday during the journey?

Now that I've finished with that, here' s a few more observations on my part...

The theory that Sephiroth must be fairly old because he was Cloud's childhood hero:

Fact: We never hear Cloud mention Sephiroth until that meeting at the well with Tifa, when Cloud was 14 (or do we? Correct me if I'm wrong). So, Sephiroth was appearantly popular already, but there's no reason to suppose that he was publicly know when Cloud was 8 or 9.

Of course, Zack also joined SOLDIER to be like Sephiroth. Note that Zack left home to try to join SOLDIER 10 years before the game. This is three years before Cloud tried to join SOLDIER. So, Sephiroth must have been famous then too, but that doesn't mean he was the top-ranking SOLDIER at the time.

Fact: Age isn't as important in SOLDIER as you might think. Zack made First Class when he was in his teens. In fact, notice that no one finds it too terribly strange when Cloud claimed to have made First Class when he was 16. People in the FFVII world seem to grow up pretty fast, and the modifactions SOLDIERs undergo makes it possible for even young members to be powerful.

When trying to figure out Sephiroth's age it's important to know what time period you're talking about. Also, how exactly is age being calculated? The obvious answer would be the number of years since he was born, but that could also be slightly misleading. After all, Vincent's age in the manual is stated as being 27 because that's how old he was when Hojo shot and experimented on him.
Fact: Sephiroth more or less died during the events of Nibelheim. His body was inside a mako cyrstal for the next five years. Lucrecia spent more than 30 years in a similar crystal, but in DoC she looks the same as when she went in.

So, at the time of the Nibelheim incident, Sephiroth is at most 25. And since I'm so terrible at estimating, when I went through the flashback scene, I actually guessed he was a few years younger than what he was. (Evil manga style, with its big eyes and delicate features, making everyone look young for thier age). Also, if you're watching AC, you'll notice that Sephiroth looks the same in the infernos scene, that mental battle in the crater, and when he's fighting Cloud at the end. But then, it's sort of hard to tell with him anyway.

Anyone have any data to back up/refute my opinions?

Well, the timeline in the official strategy guide for Dirge of Cerberus first mentions Sephiroth in entry for "25-30 years Ago". Since the entry for the events of Advent Children is under "2 Years After FFVII", they're not counting back from the most recent point. The entry for "22 Years Ago" talks about the birth of Aerith, so they're counting back from the events of Final Fantasy VII.

25-30 Years Ago:

"The Jenova Project is established in an effort to create an artificial Ancient.

After realizing that Jenova is not an Ancient, Professor Gast resigns from his position at Shinra and disappears.

Lucrecia and her child, Sephiroth, who was conceived with Hojo, becomes the subject of his experiments."

I'm going to agree with the majority and say that he's no older than 30 in Final Fantasy VII.
