Will struggled to get a breath as his clothes weighed him down in the water. He swam back to the shallows to rest for a moment.
"What were you doing?" he asked worriedly between gasps. "You really scared me there; I thought you were..." He coughed a moment, then said, "You scared me."

She stood in the shallows and tilted her head, "whats wrong with swimming in the sea?" She tilted her head tail swinging slowly back and forth making small waves of it's own through the clear water.

Will was still panting frantically, but he managed to spit out the words, "I don't know.. sharks? Big huge fish? ... pirates?"
He had said the last part before he could think about it first. Now that he had said it, would she interrogate him until he became sick of her as well? He hoped not... Shade, though a little different, was one of the better friends he had ever encountered, and he didn't want anything like ruddy pirates ruining that.
"... I mean stingrays?!"

She laughed darkly "stingrays do't scare more nor do these big fish or 'pirates' you speak of. She wasn't going to ask him about the thing that scared him so, if he wanted to tell her he would.
She reared suddenly "let them come at me!" then came down slamming into the water with a splash.

A sly smile slid across Will's face. "Splashing, eh?" he smirked, rushing towards the mare and stopping a few inches from her, sending water flying in all directions.
He quickly turned and galloped off, calling after him; "This means war!" He turned back around and faced her from afar, his mane and tail blowing in the salty breeze. He stood tall and proud, his left hind hoof cocked ever so slightly, his chest puffed out and his eyes narrowed. Though the Kalona was frightening, Will would admit that, she didn't scare him that much anymore... he could try to be intimidating if he really wanted to be.
"I dare you. Splash me."

Shade puffed slightly atthe sudden splash and tossed her mane thenwar you shalll have Will Turnrer!" Tossing her mane the mare galloped forward then suddenly spun aorund andlashed out with her hind hooves sending a quietlarge splash his way.
Shade hated most lessers, it was true, but there were afew that caused a twang of kindness within her to show, plus she just o longer cared how theothers saw he, she would be who she was nothing else.

"Well, I am glad to have such a worthy opponent!" Will shouted, galloping past Shade and kicking out his legs as he went, spraying the salty water in every which way.
He sprinted ahead of her and turned to face her again.
"But sadly," he continued. "You must face dire peril. I cannot lose this battle." He bowed his head and snorted, staring down his opponent. He would win. He didn't know how, or why it mattered; he had to win.

Shade reared again her sharp hooves lashing as if trying to rip the air appart "we shall see won't we!"
She charged forward twoards will then suddenly she purposefully feel sendign a wall of water upwards at him.
She hauled herself up once more and her mane clung to her neck accenting it's long and sleek but powerful shape.

Will fell backwards into the water, landing on his rump on a particularly sharp rock.
"You win," he said after a moment, shaking the water from his mane as best he could and biting a piece of seaplant stuck to his leg off.
"Dang you, Shade!" he called out jokingly, mock-screaming and wailing. "You've won this time, but next time..." He stopped mid-sentence, pretending to die, then stood up and took a bow. "I love acting..." he said quietly, his cheeks turning a delicate shade of red.

She grinned her fangs flashing like daggers.
To the victor goes the spoils," she bounced throguh the water at him tossing her mane." Then she paused and look out to see, dark angry clouds were swelling up not far off shore and she could already see the llightning crackling above the water.
"We best get somewhere dry," she moved quickly from the water before a bolt hit it.

Will nodded silently in agreement and made for shore. He had never been in a true storm, only scattered showers and snow had encountered him since he arrived in this general area, but he had heard how deadly they could be.
"I know of a rock cave that's not too far off, if you'd like to go there," he mentioned, motioning with his head to the direction in which the cave was.
Once he reached dry land, he shook himself off as best as he could. His damp clothes still clung tightly to his now-shivering body, but he could manage; as long as he wasn't struck by lightning.

Shade paused suddenly standing up to her hocks on the water, for a long moment she faced the land then her head slowly turned back and stared into the distance.
Shade's expression seemed odd, as if she'd suddenly died and all that was left was the shell of a soquilli standing like a staute in the water. Atleast until her expression turned into a frown, then to a snarl.
That was the first time she'd ever done that near Will. The expression left no doubt that this wasn't a truely kind mare, that even for the kindness she seemed to only show to him, she wasn't good in any sense of the word. If that wasn't enough she growld, a deep low sound that rumbled from the pits of her soul.
For a long moment she stood there like that then shook her head and seemed to almost snap out of a hypnotic state her exression changing completely. "Sorry... just hadsoemthing on my mind..." with no more explanation than that she trudged from the sea and moved along beside him twoards the cave.

Will stared at Shade questioningly, but did not ask what had bothered her. Each of them had their secrets, their own issues, and Will would feel like a bloody hyprocrite if he invaded Shade's private affairs.
"The cave's this way," he mumbled, though Shade was already on her way there. He couldn't help but admire the mare; sure, she was a Kalona, but she was a right nice Soquili and he wouldn't put her breed against her. Well, she may be the only nice Kalona, but at least she was nice.
