She stood there as her white fur soaked into a dull gray from the water surrounding her fetlocks. Such a warm soothing feeling washed over her as the feelings she held and respect for Red. No other soquili had ever sho wn her this adoration and treatment that he displayed as widely as a full extended rainbow in hues blending of seven different shades. She knew he had other obligations and history personal to his o wn, but yet blinked in amazement of his announcement.
He was leaving?
Her forelock fell limp covering over her eyes for a moment as if to hide the worriment she was feeling. The simple fact he may just bow in farewell and disappear into a voided dream never to be seen again. Her mind trotting along now , not in her pensive state, but truly worried the best thing that happened to her could be lost forever.
She was being selfish for a relationship wasn't held on gravity of keeping one in place. If his love was true for her she knew her eyes of crystalline blue would capture gaze of that fiery sihouette on the horizon once again.
"Red... one does not vow their adoration for another then dismiss it as if it were nothing but a false dream. If one truly does love another then they shall return back to the one they keep in their heart. I shall wait by the sands of time for your return. If you do then perhaps you will know the emotion I store deeply inside my binding heart."
Not another word was uttered from her lips as her eyes fell upon him like cool jeweled pools of water sparking cerelean blue.

All the stress, nervousness, and apprehension that had built up in his hesitation to tell her simply melted away with her heartfelt words, and a relieved smile adorned his features once again as he leaned in and rested his slightly larger forehead against her own. "I promise you, miss Star... the very fires of hell could not keep me from coming back to you. However beaten and bloody I may be, knowing that you are here waiting for me, I will most definitely return." It was at the tip of his tongue to say it... to finally admit to her that he had fallen head over hooves in love with her... but there was something holding him back.
Despite what may have come about in popular belief, Nanaki was a romantic at heart- especially when it came to her. He wanted to be able to tell her when they wouldn't have anything looming over them- no shadows, no doubts, no fears. The best he could do was promise her that he would come back... if--no, when he did, he could give himself to her fully, with no strings or 'what ifs' attached. Besides, on the off-chance that he didn't return, it would be crueler to burden her with the knowledge and force her to spend the rest of her life wondering what could have been, right? He preferred not to think about it. He wouldn't leave her alone, ever--not while he still had breath in his body.

She could almost utter it if he would for two hearts spoke loudly than others singular and alone. She was still feeling forlorn that he'd depart yet she wanted him to do what he had to. If you think about it in reality the sooner it was over he'd return in whickers and nuzzles as they experienced now.
Her wings fluttered with a swift chilled breeze announcing the grueling months ahead in irredecent whites and silvers about the land. Turning her head softly she noted a feather not posistioned correctly upon her left wing. It appeared to be halfway removed yet still hung on with all the mercy it had.
Contemplating she reached over and gently nipped it free clenching it protectively within her velvet muzzle and teeth. Walking with an about turn in her stride she neared close to him where her breath litterally warmed his neck with her closeness as nostrils inhaled and exhaled delicately.
Reaching upward she placed the feather in a lock of his mane securing it so not even the harshest winter would take something so precious from him. It was her gift to the deep heartest male whom captured the star's own heart and placed her on a pedastal.
"Now you will have good fortune in your battle. For my adoration and love shall guide you in the bleakest moment. Remember to return wence things have settled... for I shall be waiting with an open wing for you."

A tender smile adorned the firey stallion's features as he bent his head to accept the feather in his short mane, golden irises capturing and holding the azure depths of the mare he loved so dearly before him. Her kindness and understanding was limitless, it seemed, and not for the first time, he wondered what he had done to deserve the fallen angel that occupied so many of his thoughts and his heart. Dipping his head so his nose met hers, he pressed his forehead to her own briefly in another show of affection, molten amber hues sliding closed as he savored this moment. It was uncertain when the call to arms would arise- it could come tomorrow, or it could come a month from now- but he intended to make the most out of whatever time he had left to spend with her.
He paused for a moment, debating over what he could do for her in return- the feather was a beautiful gesture, but he felt that repeating it by giving her a trinket as well would cheapen its meaning somehow. Nanaki was never a terribly original individual, but for her, he would be anything that was asked of him and more. Taking a moment to consider his words, he stepped forward and gently nosed a stray tendril of her mane away from her face, speaking in a low, affectionate tone. "My shining star... while I cannot promise exactly when I will come back to you, know that when I do, I will bring you back to this place, and make you a new promise. This place," he paused to raise his head and take in his surroundings once more, committing them to memory, "will be our sanctuary."
It was difficult for him to even comprehend the thought of leaving her for an undetermined amount of time- especially when he might be going to his death. Still, he wasn't about to let it deter him from letting her know how important she was to him, even if he couldn't outright admit his love for her yet.

Though her heart littered itself with sadness she held a deep veil over any doubts she'd mustered at that very time. Her feather was a becon for him should battle be the end nor the beginning. Crystal eyes lie upon him as her breast beat with every admiration she'd ever carried for anything.
"Promises can not be faltered unless one truly doesn't mean what they state. I know you to be true in your words Nanaki. I've given you something to remember me, and hold true. You do what you must and return when you can. There's mares in the herd I live amongst that may need help with foals should they catch. My heart shall sit within yours so keep a good spirit within yourself."
She smiled gently reaching outward her muzzle to blow gently upon his with a smile. Time would stand still till it was broken. Just standing there in contrast and admiration was purely enough to keep her hopes afloat and soaring.

Although he would have given anything to remain there with her for an eternity and simply forget the rest of the world, Nanaki knew his responsibilities, and he would never cast them aside. A shadow passed over his face for a brief moment, doubt darkening the bright golden hues as he pulled back to look at the sky.
"I must go..." he murmured softly, regretfully. It was with no small amount of trepidation that he took a hesitant step back, meeting her eyes with a flaming determination, bowing his head briefly. "I will return to you, Miss Star, in spirit if not in body. My heart is yours, forever and always."
Giving her one last gentle, reassuring smile, the bright stallion turned from her and broke into a run across the grassy plains, not darng to look back, for fear he would lose his nerve and not be able to leave her side.

If wishes were horses her heart would have lifted her own forefeet to stop him as her whicker was low and resiliant. She longed for him to stay with her but his duty was first and foremost before their happiness would be complete.
As the dust trailed off his powerful back legs she watched him fade like a lighted candle slowly fusing into a smaller flame till it darkened and resided as it disappeared from sight. His heart had been given freely as it burned for her. And her heart beating with the happiness he'd return back to her. Forcing a smile she closed her eyes letting a pensive glow cover her entire form.
Her voice trailed off from her sweet lips for anyone or anything listening as her heart spoke its own mind. "Dearest Nanaki so brave and true, By the enchanted spring I shall wait for you, Be it dawn, be it dusk as time glides by. Forever know this when you return my love I shall be at your side....". Almost as a song she repeated it once more reminicing his words as they played like a dream.
Stepping out in the sunlight she blinked her eyes then began a slow walk to ponder what had all happened before he departed from her. Deep in her heart she knew he'd return, for words of honesty always held true.
