In high school, the various bands had different dress codes. For contest in the lower bands, just dressy church clothes could be used, and then we would dress up, as if for prom for our winter and spring concerts. Our Turkey Supper Concert(huge fundraiser for the band) was Nice Casual, no jeans and tennis shoes and the like. With the symphonic band (the top band) we had to wear all black for everything, except Turkey Supper, where it would be relaxed. The jazz band wore dressy clothes for the most part, but there were various factions among the members on if we should wear black or not. lol
In college, we have uniforms that we have to buy through the band. All of it's black except for the guys' dress shirts. For guys it's a tux, no biggie. For the ladies, we have a longsleeved floorlength dress. It's actually not too bad. My favorite part is for band trips we can just crumple it into a ball in our luggage, and it won't wrinkle. The guys, however, have to be super careful about theirs. lol I'm excited, because for band tour, we're going to China (in a week!) and I have that much more space to bring stuff back in, because I can crumple it. biggrin

my school has always had dresses as the uniform and we have always had to order them though the director. The dress style changes ever three years.

I honestly hate our band dresses...soo itchy and they make us look...bad....

New uniformity now that we have to get dresses with our own money that our director picked out and cause he doesn't like uncovered shoulders, we can't choose the comfy nice dress we saw in the catalogue. It's not fun, and they're disgusting to all of us...sometimes I wished I were a guy just so I can wear a tux like in middle school.

My band (the wind ensamble) has uniforms but the other bands in our school don't wear uniforms.
The guys wear the tuxedo and girls wear this ugly white blouse with a huge floor length skirt.
I always trip over my skirt when I go up stairs. gonk

The other bands just have to wear black bottoms and white tops.

Every female student in concert band has to pay 50 bucks for the blue shirt and black jacket (Which fits like a sack) and then wear black pants.

The guys just have to buy a 15 dollar tie and find a black shirt and pants.

the boys wear tuxes with our school's name on the sleeve
they have to give them back at the end of the year.
and it used to be that girls just wore black pants and a black shirt,
but this year we decided to get dresses. we all had to pay 60 bucks for ours though. mad

personally, i'd much rather have a uniform. it looks so much more professional. ^^

We, actually, don't have a strict uniform. Guys have to wear a tuxedo, but girls can wear something along the lines of black pants/long skirt and black shirt. We can't wear anything too revealing or too short, or open-toed shoes. Fortunately, my director is really quite lax. But, they'll get really mad if we wear something too short. 8P

Our uniforms are kind of like tuxedos...we have to wear a bow tie and cumber bun, and it is the same for girls. While our band looks very professional, I think the girls should be able to wear an actual dress or skirt...something a little more feminine.

The guys have to wear the tux shirts while the girls have to wear this really itchy, black dress with beading all across the upper half and a black bow right below the bodice line. It's either really tight and you have no arm movement or it's really loose and you have to concentrate on having it not fall off. I'd totally wear the guys clothing any day!

My BD always says you can predict the way a band will play by how they present themselves on stage.

At our school,
GUYS: black pants, white dress shirt, black bow tie
GIRLS: black pants or skirt, white shirt.

im gonna say no because i don't wear a skirt or a dress when i can avoid it. i usually wear slacks. and like exdraghunt's, my band director always says you can predict the way a band will play by how they present themselves on stage.

Here would be our dress code in Elementary School...

Girls: White dressy top, black skirt or slacks. No mini skirts or jeans.
Dressy shoes.

Boys: White top, Tie or bow tie. black pants. Dressy shoes.

It might be that for our High School, but I'm not sure since I'm going into the high school soon.

We don't have band uniforms, but we do have to wear nice black pants, black shoes, or sandals, and a nice button up white shirt or something like that. It's okay and all, but I want to get a uniform so it will look much more...uh...nicer..? xd
