The pair continued to delve deeper into Mafa's territory, causing Rune to continously up his alert and guard even by the second. Unfortunately he had a quick understanding to the fact that it wasn't just him putting himself in danger, but also this Safiya girl. Even if it was /her/ choice to follow, he couldn't help but feel obligated to at least keep her protected and calm.
Thankfully, however, what he had been 'checking into' had managed to show up. How could he tell? There was absolutely no mistaking that echoing cackle, that's how. The adult immediately halted while he stepped in front of Safiya, ink black eyes quickly narrowing as his head turned this way and that in hopes of locating the source. However again, this didn't prove near that difficult, considering that Mafa had taken quick action to appear.
Runai stared with a sort of amused glare, despite his posture being a bit.. defensive. Still, however, he couldn't help but comment, a smirk meanwhile appearing. "Nice to see you too, y'overgrown rat," He stated lightly, quirking a brow. "Ausha's been a little.. emotionally distracted, lately," the male added with a quiet laugh of his own. He had never favored Ausha to begin with, which was of course no surprise.
"Y'know if you leave and forget you never saw us here, I promise you'd never be able to tell there were lions meandering through /your/ lands. Might save us a bit of trouble," He commented, shifting his weight to his right leg that hadn't been injured in the past. "Besides. We're more trouble than you probably are in the mood to deal with." This was commented with a meanwhile snarl of his own. Afterall, it always managed to make him look a bit tougher than what he actually was. Intimidation was nice, despite that Mafa most likely wouldn't take any effect of it.
Truth be told, the only reason Rune had continously been scouting the area was so that he could find this same hyena and hopefully 'chat' for a bit about something in particular, however it was unfortunate that Safi had managed to find herself here aswell, which immediately smashed any hopes of that 'chat'.

((Yay xd ))
Why, oh why did Safiya get herself into this? She didn't like hyenas. A long time ago she ran into one..and while her memory was still fuzzy, she remembered the terror that she had felt. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Why had she felt the need to befriend this unfriendly lion? Curiosity killed the cat. She never did listen to the silly proverbs.
Even though she was a full-grown lion, she was not a born fighter - she was a bit ashamed at the fear that pierced her heart at the sound of that ominous, humorless cackle. Only her pride kept her from running away the moment she saw the dark shape of the hyena. Even though she was just one, and the lions a pair, Safiya was not confident. She didn't know what to do, and so she did nothing.
With nothing to say, and fear holding her tongue, she stood by Runai - his name now, finally, known to her - and listened as the two threw insults at each other. Apparently, they had a history; Safiya tried to pay attention to what they were saying. It could be interesting. She was too distracted, however, to be insulted or embarrased at the love bird comment.
Eyes fully alert, muscles quaking as her fight or flight response kicked in, and hiding somewhat behind the bigger, stronger male, Safiya told herself she was grown up now, and grown up lions did not tremble in front of a lone hyena.

Mafa padded foreward a few steps, raising her head and puffing her chest to emphasize her full size. Her eyes narrowed, icy gaze staring Rune down. The only usefull thing about this lion was that he managed to invoke a couple of visible emotions in Mafa, other than pure rage of course. Not that anyone knew about it. Quite beside herself, Mafa chuckled sarcastically,
"Ha. Ha. Just keep getting sharper don't you? Hmm, what's this about Ausha? Troubled? On his death bed perhaps?"
Her voice piqued as she inquired, oh how nice she would feel if that scarp of useless meat was mentally tortured, then she could go on in and inflict some physical pain as well. But she soon snapped out of that thought, as Rune's next comment registered in her mind. The female snapped her jaws, lunging at the two but stopping just a few feet short from them, just to scare them,
"Don't flatter yourself, and your kind, you scum are the ones that are going to leave... Or... Perhaps, you won't leave, we'll just kill you all off."
A malicious grin rose to the female's haunting features. Mafa cackled lowly, obviously amused with this whole situation. With a roll of her eyes at Rune's attempt at looking fierce, Mafa began to saunter a circle around the two, keying in on a soft spot to bring them down easily when the time came to it.
"Don't you worry your inflated little head, you limping mongrel, I am always in the mood to taste some blood"

Despite Mafa's attempt to puff up her size, Rune still had managed to outgrow her. Maybe it'd come in handy and make the match a bit more.. even. Who was he kidding? He'd been smashed last time he'd bickered with Mafa and he knew sure as hell he still remained unqualified to pull another duel.
"Hmph. Apparently an ugly little cub was taken away from poor, poor, widdle Ausha," He commented, his voice turning into such a tone that perhaps would be taken with a child: baby talk. "Unfortunately I don't think he's old enough to be dead yet.. still hasn't grown that mane of his, from what I hear," Rune added lightly with a bit of a shrug from his shoulders. It seemed he liked to insult Ausha just as much as he did Mafa. It always was more fun to pick on him, considering that he disliked him a bit more than the character standing in front of him. Perhaps she thought he and Ausha were friends..? Otherwise she might not've brought the subject up.
His attention, however, was immediately snapped back to the hyena as the creature lunged, causing him to instinctively step backward with a growl. "Who ever said I was flattering myself?" Rune grunted, eyes narrowing quickly. "Feeling a little risky? Taking on two full grown lions..? Mafa, Mafa, Mafa.. c'mon now.. hmph." The male mumbled, taking a quick glance to the silent girl beside him. "Eh? Wait.. eh? Aaaw c'mon. Damn.. how come I always have the little p***y cats tagging along..? Never comes in handy.. nevermind, make that /one/ fullgrown lion," He grumped. Back to square one. He was no match and should give up and go home. Or not. Either which way?
Meanwhile the male kept a wary watch on the circling hyena while he continued to ignore the hyena's final comment. If she were smart, she'd go for Rune and leave Safi out of it. Afterall, it was him that she had the main problem with. Sort of?

Safiya began edging back, taking baby steps away from the circling hyena. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time. This affair didn't concern her; these two apparently had their own score to settle. There was obviously going to be a fight, and she didn't need to be involved. She would fight if she had to, of course, but she didn't see the point in it.
When the hyena lunged at them, Safiya jumped back in suprise. Then, without thinking, she snarled back at her with a maliciousness she didn't know she had. Safiya might have been scared, but she wasn't going to let this dirty, mean hyena bully her. That had made her mad, and given her a new sense of bravery; she now had her teeth bared, if only slightly, at Mafa.
Nevermind the fact that she was trying to keep Rune between herself and the hyena. It was his fault they were there anyway, right? He should be the one to deal with this.

Ouu, fiesty weren't they? This fact only made Mafa chuckle in an arrogant tone, she'd take on these two lions and come out fine, there was no doubt in her mind about that. The female's attempt at bravery was amusing, Mafa was sizing her up already. The lioness and Mafa were just about at an even size, Mafa being rarely large for her species. She'd definitely tear her limb from limb, but first, she'd enjoy her fun with Runai.
"Runai, it is you who is the risky feeling one today. Walking on my lands, with another one of your kind? Please, what kind of greeting did you think you'd get, hmm?"
Mafa licked her chops, her circle around the two getting smaller as she paced. It wasn't an exactly noticeable form of closing in, but sneaky is what Mafa was up to. She paused lightly as Rune spoke about Ausha's cub, her head titled lightly. She felt a certain glee within her, imagining Ausha in all his despair was just too beautiful of a thought.
"Really now? Where was it taken to, by whom? Hopefully they'd have killed it by now, no?"

Rune couldn't help but swipe a glance in Safi's direction at her sudden snarl. Since when was she the fiesty type? Hmn. Without thinking much about it, the male brushed the thought from his shoulder. Hmph.
"C'mon, Maf-kins, you know by now I'm the risky type. And besides, I had some business to attend. This girl is merely tagging along, so it's not exactly like she's much of a threat. I mean.. look at her." He commented with a raised brow, not even bothering to quirk his head to make him seem only more confused. His eyes were busy following the hyena from the corners of his eyes - he couldn't be bothered with trying to add any other movement into it. Hopefully Safi wouldn't take his insult the wrong way, he thought silently to himself. If she were smart, she'd maybe realize his attempt to bring any attention from her onto himself, thereby somewhat keeping the girl safe.
Without a further thought his attention snapped back to Mafa, who had once again spoken. So.. she wanted information? Runai's tail flicked impatiently while he once again opened his mouth to speak. "Curious about Ausha's offspring, eh? Since you seem so keen, remind me again why I should tell anything to you..? Considering that you might just rip Safi here and I to shreads afterward? Psh. You get nothing until you quit acting like such git for the moment." As much as he loved to trash talk Ausha, he'd keep his mouth shut until Mafa kept her cool.

Rune's sudden remarks stung Safi quite deeply. Weren't they on the same side? In the same pride even? She took a few steps back, feeling betrayed, feeling even more out of place. Any thought of fighting back was gone, replaced by a desire - a strong desire - to get out of there. Her courage and whatever confidence she had was shot down by Rune's comments. She tried to somehow back out from the circle Mafa was walking around the two lions, keeping her scared blue eyes on the ominous-looking hyena.
If her mind had not been filled with fear, she may have more easily and quickly understood Rune's tactics in speaking to Mafa. But as it were, all she wanted was to run and hide and maybe cry a bit for her hurt feelings. Still, she had a big heart, and couldn't allow herself to run off and leave Rune to possibly fight Mafa alone. She would stay as long as she could bear it, and back him up - even if it was just with moral support.
All of this talk about Ausha meant nothing to Safi. Who cared about him? She had not seen that crazy lion for an age. She found it odd, however, to hear that he had had cubs. Never did seem the nurturing type, that Ausha. She wondered why he meant so much to these two. Obviously she had been out of it for a while, to have missed so much of the goings-on in her own home.

Mafa growled at Rune's choice of diction, that lion was just asking to get mauled, there was no way around it. Her head ticked to the side, a gesture of sheer annoyance,
"Allow me to remind you Runai, that neither of you two are a threat to me, so don't try that path of weaseling out of your troubles"
At Rune's next comment, Mafa simply snapped her teeth at him, showing off the weapons she intended to use to rip out his useless throat, one way or another,
"You seem to forget I'd rather rip you to shreds now and get the information from a different source. Withholding information can only lead to a slower, more painful death, if you so wish it upon yourself and your yellow livered friend. But go on, play to your fancy, tell me what you know"
Ice eyes narrowed, darting from one feline to the next. The lioness made a sudden movement backwards, like she was about to run. At this point, Mafa darted forward and around the lioness, snapping at her rear, it wasn't a bite to intentionally wound the lioness just yet, Mafa'd be lucky if she inflicted a gash or two on the lioness' hide, at the moment, she was just trying to keep these two in line,
"Hold your hide there wretch, you'll have your moment between my jaws soon enough, but lets be polite and listen to your companion, shall we?"

"Who were you planning on getting info from?" Rune questioned, seating himself on the hyena's territory. "If y'kill everyone you try to information from then you probably won't have anyone to ask anymore. Hmn. But hey, far be it from me to stop ya," The male stated lightly with a short shrug of his shoulders. If she wanted to know anything that badly then she would've shut up by now. Obviously it wasn't that important to her.
The male remained silent for a few moments, inky black eyes watching as Safi stepped back, causing Mafa to dart forward. They narrowed mildly as he rose, taking little hesitation to spin on heel and step between the two girls. "Leave her out of this," He commented gruffly, but calmly, frowning rather plainly while he continued to stare in Mafa's direction.
"So what'd you wanna know?" He added with a shrug. Unfortunately, now that he thought about it, buying time was always a plus? It'd give his mind some time to think over the situation and tell Mafa what she wants to hear, but not give away too much.

The situation had gone from bad to worse. That Mafa had singled her out for a mock-attack had been the last straw. Soon as she could, soon as she saw an opening, she would take off and run like there was no tommorow. Because if she didn't, there really might not be a "tommorow" for her. But for now she would wait and not move a muscle, not wanting to invite another response as she had before.
Her muscles quivered, either from fear, adrenaline, or in the effort to keep them from bolting in escape. She trained her blue eyes on Rune, watching him, wondering if he would defend her if she tried to run. Probably not. After all, she would be abandoning him to face Mafa alone, and they were not friends - they had only just met. She didn't want to let him down, but not at the cost of her bodily harm.
She watched him, barely listening to a conversation not concerning her, not thinking about the hyena's jaws that had come so close to her own hide. She was ashamed to be such a coward.

"Sometime I wonder how you forget facts so easily, Runai. Is it that miniscule brain of yours that factors into the equation? I'm supposing so. But I have been, and always will be, the leader of a well established pack, and if I can't get the information myself, someone will most definitely do my bidding. Our eyes and ears are every where, don't forget that."
Mafa hunched her head, giving the two lions a grim grin. Her prowl grew to a stop, her gaze trained on the trembling female. The feline looked as if she was going to bolt, Mafa wasn't going to allow that, not before teaching her a lesson, or just killing her and taking her to the rest of the pack for dinner. Runai on the other hand, him she couldn't kill. She'd torture him till he was on his last limb of life and then set him back home. As much as she hated him, and wanted to see him writhing in pain, she didn't want him dead. At least not yet.
"Tell me everything you know, and we'll see where that gets us... And how about your friend, how about we hear what she knows as well."

Rune's right eyebrow arched, either in confusion or amusement, at Mafa's ongoing comment. It was rather.. cocky, and this entertained the male. In fact, he couldn't help but somewhat.. laught at it? It wasn't much, since he did his best to keep his trap shut. But nevertheless.
"Get the information from loyal members, hmn? Obviously your 'eye's and ears' that're everywhere are either blind or deaf. Maybe both? Ausha had cubs long ago, and they've long since left here. If I were you I'd want to check up or send out some of your little lackies every once and a while. My guess is that they haven't been out to our side for months, and if they try to go now, I doubt they'd find much."
He decided to ignore the hyena's insults directed towards him, it'd only get him in deeper water if he replied. Instead, he figured he'd find out what it was Mafa was so keenly tranced on. Perhaps a rat? Peh. Course not. He turned his head in order to follow Mafa's gaze. Neh, of course it was Safi. Still stuck on her? Figured.
He continued, though, not commenting on Mafa's fixation with the feline. "I highly doubt she knows much of anything. I'd been the first she'd met in a while, so obviously she has no close relations within the clan itself. Nothing much about Ausha.. remembered my mothers name.. for some reason." His tail flicked idoly while he explained, his eyes never leaving the white-colored girl standing behind him.
"Hmph. As for me." Runai added, swinging his head back around to fixate his eyes on Mafa once again, "Ausha bred with some.. random girl to produce some heirs. And although technically -I- should be the heir, Ausha wanted some more. Maybe. To split things or have two rulers or something. Who knows. One was taken under the pairs noses while Ausha was busy being beaten up by some blue guy. Don't ask for names, I don't know any. Rumors these days, psh. The cub that was kidnapped is gone, who knows where the hell she is, and Ausha, as far as I know, might still be moping around somewhere underneath some rock cliff, boo-whoing about his rotten luck. Or maybe he left. Nothin' much here anymore. Who knows." He finished with a sort of shrug and a smirky grin, almost happy at the thought of Ausha in so much pain.

Mafa thought she had information about the lions in the graveyard? That was absurd. Safi could barely remember anything earlier than waking up with a big bump on her head - older memories were so old and foggy she could hardly recall specifics.
She felt the need to show that she did, indeed, know nothing. Gathering up strength in her voice, she said quietly, "I...I met Ishara once, a very long time ago, when I was young." Her voice gained strength as she continued on.
Saying this brought the hazy memories back to mind, and suddenly she realized why Rune had seemed familiar. "I was there when she had her cubs. I met them when they were first born. Of course, I was barely a cub myself."
She tried to think back to what had happened after that. There was...nothing. No memories until today. "That's the last thing I can remember," she admitted. "I never even knew Ausha even had cubs, til today."
So there. That was all she knew. Hopefully Mafa would understand how useless Safi was to her, and leave her alone.

Mafa scoffed, shaking her head lightly as she paced another circle around the pair,
"I've known about Ausha's runts for a good amount of time... Let's say... a little birdie told me."
Mafa smirked maliciously. She was referring to Mrost, that defect of nature, that lion with wings, that supposed god of the lions whom had brought to her attention the existance of these things. Mafa tilted her head upward lightly,
"It's the here and now I'm concerned about..."
After hearing what the girl had to say about herself and what Rune had to say about her, Mafa deemed her completely useless. Of course, under no circumstances would she be let go, Mafa would just kill her for being as useless as she was. It would serve her right.
There was a grim satisfaction in Mafa's mind as she listened to Rune talk. Ausha's worries were oh-so interesting, Mafa loved hearing about the things that caused him woe. But then something Runai said sparked a thought in her mind,
"You are the rightful heir, you were around long before then... So why doesn't Ausha recognize your power? And why are you sitting around doing nothing about it. He is weak, take what is his from him, don't hesitate."
Mafa grinned, tilted her head as she bared her fangs, taking a few steps even closer to the two lions. It would be so simple for Runai to take over... And then for her to completely bowl him over, leaving the whole graveyard to herself.... Wonderful plan...
