Dear diary:
I haver never seen a plant birth a child before and I am certain I do not want to see it again. Despite this said child, Owen is an adorable child and I could not be happier with him. It is hard to convey all of how I feel on paper. there is joy mixed with worry and a bit of pride. With Anao I did little to receive her but Owen I nurtured to life. It is as close to creating a child as I will likely ever come.

He's a bit of an odd one but I suppose his rabbit nature is to blame for that. he chews on everything including his own long velvety ears. I'm trying to keep him from doing it but I have no idea how his teeth will suffer if he isn't allowed to chew and I can't just let him eat all the time to grind them down.

Owen and Anao get along well and they seem content to share me. I hope they can grow up together and remain on good terms. I will be the best role model I can but I know sibling life is hard and they share no common bond but me. Somehow with the help of other's like Tek , internet parents and books I will attempt to keep my makeshift family whole.

Growing pains

Owen was a typical toddler , he was curious about everything and being a bunny he explored everything with his nose and mouth. Nothing was safe from beign sniffed and nibbled or sucked upon and this included Anao.

Amber eyes stared complacently into chocolaty brown ones. Anao had become used to her larger sibling's way of showing interest in her, besides he never hurt her and it was only bad when her hands got slimy. It wasn't like she could really move far or fast enough to get away from him anyways. She was stuck in a playpen that he could get in and out of but she couldn't.

All was going fine until Anao felt something sharp and unpleasant. It didn't come from her chew happy brother though but from inside her own mouth. It hurt oh how it hurt and Anao did not like the pain. Pain was bad and not happy and she just wanted to be happy why couldn't the pain go away. At her tender age Anao didn't understand teething or that it was a sign of her aging. All she knew was that it was painful and she wanted it to stop.

The pain increased momentarily and Anao's whimpers became a wail. At the loud noise Owen bolted in fear to cower behind the couch peeking concernedly over at his pained sibling.

Pash brought early from his shower by the sound was dripping wet and cloaked in only a bathrobe. He strode across the plushy beige carpet towards his penned up daughter in an attempt to figure out what was wrong.

Anao saw none of this though, she was lost within time for a moment. Still in the present but warping herself to the future, not that she knew it. Her desire to be rid of the pain had increased it and it had lanced through her but what would have been months of teething became only a minute as the girl's latent abilities aged her through the process.

Suddenly things were different than before, some objects seemed larger to Anao's and others smaller. Her mind seemed to have expanded and her thoughts became just a bit more linear and complex. It would take time for her to adjust to this and she had phased out for the moment sitting on the floor of her playpen dazed looking while reflexively testing her improved motor skills.

Pash stared at his newly6 grown daughter in shock, children were supposed to just grow like that, it was just wrong. Then again Owen had pretty much burst froth from a leaf so he couldn't really judge. Still it was a bit unsettling to see his baby turn into a toddler before his very eyes. After a quick visual once over he left the living room to dry and dress himself. When he returned he'd see if he could get Anao to talk to him and explain exactly how that had happened ( though he doubted that was possible) and why she had been crying.

Owen eyed his sister warily, she had changed she was bigger close to his size now. Her red hair was a bit longer and her face seemed different sort of less smooshy but that wasn't bad. Still he was content to stroke his ears and watch from his sheltered position until he was sure she hadn't changed into something bad.

Licorice

Pash didn't know what it was about licorice that pleased Anao and Pash so much. He could never tell if it was the smell, colour, taste or texture of the stuff .that drew them to it. He was clueless as to why they loved it and even more so why they played with it before eating it.

It wasn't even normal play either, there was no peeling of it , infact thy seemed offended by the pull and peel stuff. They didn't lick it or suck or it or play tug of war with it. For some reason known only to them they drank with it. All day one piece of licorice would be toted about and then plopped into a cup and away they would go drinking , juice milk and the odd pop with it.

Then at some magically determined time they would eat the stick.

It wasn't often this happened as Pash refused to let them eat junk a lot but each time the treat was given the same strange behavior occurred and Pash was unable to figure out why.

He supposed that it wasn't really a problem just a strange quirk they siblings shared.

Of course despite being as unrelated as possible the two shared many a strange quirk

Dear diary:

Through the gift of a directory of Eden children guardians I've arranged a playdate in a few days for Owen and another leaf child. I'm hoping interaction with another child, particularly one that shares some form of kindred with him will be beneficial. At the moment he has only Anao and while family interaction isn't bad he does need to meet other children.

I'm thinking of putting him in a daycare later this summer or in the fall. He's a smart little child, no genius but he does pick up certain things quickly and he's good at solving little problems I set up for him ( unfortunately sometimes) so I think maybe day care would be good becuase he'd also be learning there.

So far while i am a bit out of my league i think I can pull this off.

Rabbit Habits

Owen was curled up in the corner of the couch watching TV. On the screen was Kikki and Coco kitty who were trying to save the world from the evil Roro robo. Owen thought the show was fun and that the kitty duo was cute becuase they fought but they were never loud and he hated loud things.

As he watched the day's episode Owen brushed the fur on his ears. In one hand he had a small wooden handled brush with hundreds of short soft bristles. Slowly and meticulously he pulled the brush across his ears in long strokes. For Owen being clean and well groomed was important, he didn't know why just that he hated to be dirty and do he brushed himself throughly often.

Sometimes his father or Anao would brush his hair and ears and tail for him and that was nice. Owen couldn't quite describe it but the times when he and Anao brushed each other's hair were comforting and made him feel like nothing in life could be better.

For now however Owen was content to brush himself and sit on the couch watching the quiet but always successful Feline heroines of Gaia.

A New beginning

Pash held Owen's hand as they pair stares at the large red brick building in front of them. Riverview Elementary school was posted on a large sign in front of the school. Like many elementary school it also contained a kindergarten class which was what Owen would be attending.

"It's only for half the day Owen and your teacher will take care of you I promise. Plus as soon as Anao feels better she'll be joining you." Pash tried to reassure his son. It wasn't easy for him to leave Owen alone even for half a day but he knew that education was important and that kindergarten was supposed to help prepare children for elementary school later.

Owen was quiet and jittery, shifting from foot to foot and grinding his teeth nervously. Still Pash was proud that he hadn't balked or thrown a fit. Owen was giving it a shot even if it upset him.

His greyish black eyes were focused on the other kindergarten children wandering around in the fenced off area designated for them. As the children who seemed alternatively dazed, upset, or gleefully tormenting their new friends ran around , Owen stroked his left ear slowly and steadily as if doing so would help what he saw make sense.

Pash sighed it was his fault Owen was so undersocilaised, they'd met only a few other people in his life so far and most were adults. Slowly he walked forward taking Owen towards the fenced off area and the woman standing at it's gate. Owen resisted for a few second then allowed himself to be lead. Pash hoped it would be easier when Anao could go with him,the siblings were very close and would likely comfort each other through the stress of this new experience.

Fifteen minutes later Pash walked away smiling and content. A Quick look over his shoulder confirmed that Owen was still seated next to another young boy who had ears similar to his though they stood strait up. it had taken only a few Minutes for Owen to find this boy and become engrossed in some conversation Pash had been unable to hear of the ruckus the other children were causing. He was glad that Owen has made a new friend and would not spend the morning worrying and being upset.

As he walked away Pash wondered what sort of stories owen would tell when he got home. The wonders of snack and nap time? How he got to paint or perhaps just about the people he had met. Pash awsn't too worried now he's really only had one major rule for Owen aside from listen to the teacher.

He'd told him that no matter how much he liked new friend he had met he was not allowed to share his brush with them. Pash had learned that mutual grooming was sign of friendship or caring, which was why Anao and Owen did it. However brush sharing in a school environment was just not Healthy.

Pash would have preffered not to send the brush with Owen a all but his son was firmly attached to the object and his need to groom. he'd promised to abide by the rules and not to brush himself when the teacher was talking or when they were doing anything important.

If Owen could keep his new friend and stick to his promises Pash thought this kindergarten experience might be really worth it for all involved.

Pash smiled softly as he placed Owen's latest schoolwork up on the fridge. His strange leaf born child was growing, slowly mastering reading and writing. Pash had no doubt that Owen had needed help to get the words right but the messy scribbles were clearly his own.

October 2nd

Smoke and steam

Hot water poured from the shower head and cascaded down Pash's body. The heat from the water and steam surrounding him was relaxing for Pash. He needed it,even with Anao and Owen both in school Pash had little time to himself to just enjoy life.

Most of his time alone during the day was spent planning after school activities, keeping the house clean ,exorcising to keep in shape or doing small things in the house to earn money.

Once the kids were home, Pash was busy helping them with any homework they had, keeping an eye on them while they played or making snacks and dinner. After dinner was T.V time which was mostly calm but pash was still mediator as he decided what would be watched and when.

Getting Owen and Anao into bed took about a half hour between teeth brushing, stories and tucking in. The free time Pash had during the evenings was spent reading. Mostly for leisure but the odd parent's magazine has wormed it's way into his literary persuits.

Night time showers however were times for relaxing and letting all the days worries wash away. Placing a small amount of crisp yet chemical smelling blue liquid onto his hand Pash raised it to his hand and began massaging the shampoo into his olive green hair.

His eyes closed for a few minutes, Pash was confused when he opened them as saw a dark smokey reflection in the tiles. Looking over his shoulder he saw a sort of strange dark fog hanging in the white of the steam.. it was a rich brown and the swirling of it's flickering presence reminded him oddly of incense.

Startled Pash backed away and reached for the facets turning them and shutting off the water. slowly opening the shower curtain he watched the steam cleared but the odd mass of something remained. " What are you? " he inquired, aware that he was dripping wet m naked and still had some shampoo in his hair but less concerned about this than this uninvited visitor.

There was no response but the smokey mass seemed to dissipate and Pash was left alone and confused. He blinked a few times, shaking his head and resumed the shower briefly to rinse his hair.

Much to his chagrin Pash found that once he'd stepped out of the shower his strange floating companion had parked itself on the marble counter top.

Having had a child appear from a necklace and dream combination and another from a leaf Pash sighed. He had a feeling that this strange presence haunting him would yield a similar result. It was typical of Gaia after all.

Wrapping a town around his waist and placing another on his hair Pash walked out of the bathroom and into the hall heading towards his bedroom . He was not surprised when in her peripheral vision he spotted the thing following him. "My bosses had better be watching this " Pash murmured as he entered his room and left the door open to accommodate his possible new charge.

Whatever the strange smokey blob was it seemed intent on following him and Pash would do his best to make sure no harm came to it ( Assuming that was possible) during it's stay.

October 6th

Pash sat on the couch, a small journal he was about to write in laying on the armrest. The past few days had been interesting and he wanted to document it with the memories still fresh in his mind. A quick glance around the living room placed Anao and Owen on the floor peacefully watching some strange children's show with computer generated characters prancing around. Rekha was hovering over the other armrest and had been relatively passive lately. Convinced he could take his attention of his charges for a few moments Pash returned to the journal.

October 6, 2007.

Things have become rather interesting here lately. In addition to Anao and Owen adjusting to school we've all recently adjusted to a new house guest. Rekha, an odd little smoke/ incense like being showed up in my shower a few days ago. It was Anao who named him and determined his gender based on something she claims to have seen. There was neither positive nor negative reaction to this so I assume Rekha as it were doesn't care or doesn't understand.

While he seems most attached to me he's taken a shine to Anao as well and if I'm not available he seems to float nearby her whether or not she likes it. Owen is decidedly a last choice of companions, not that that seems to bother him.

I have no clue what exactly Rekha is, for now nothing aside from his brown and orange hazy self is evident. My superiors have given me no help in this and Anao has clammed up about the whole subject leaving me at a loss. All I know is that for now he is my responsibility and though he seems to require little maintenance I will do the best I can.

What the future for this household no one knows but I am prepared to meet it.

October 8th

" You and me together will be, forever you'll see, we two can be good company. You and me"

Pash sat on the couch reading a book while Anao sang. He was slightly regretting buying the girl a karaoke set. Well technically he'd bought it for all of them but Anao used it the most. The red headed girl was the loudest of his three charges and so she sang the most. Currently she was singing from the Disney selection. One of the few sets she could sing at and not fail.

Too young to have fully developed voices neither Owen or Anao was very good at this yet. The game required you to keep to speed and sing to the right pitch. Pash knew the failures where upsetting. Which was why he'd said he'd turn the judging off for most sets but only if they dealt with it for the Disney set and a few choice songs he felt they should learn to sing in key

Pash had read up on the game, it allowed his children to have fun singing, and later dancing if he bought a dance pad, as well as teaching them a varity of songs and how to control their voice. It was no proper vocal coach and but it did let them get used to using voices fully and controlling them.

All in all Pash considered it a decent investment even if it irritated him at times. Raising his eyes from the screen he briefly watched Rekha drift back and froth as Owen took the microphone and began singing a soft song from a movie, Pash had not yet bought the children.

The two males seemed to prefer quiet soft music. For Owen this was understandable he had huge rabbit ears and heightened hearing. Why Rekha responded this way, Pash did not yet know though he wondered what it said about the strange being that was Rekha.

October 9, 2007

Shopping with two children is not easy, shopping with two children and and easily distracted haze is even harder. Adding in that I was shopping for Halloween costumes ( I still find the holiday very strange) and things were bound to get out of hand. It is moments sincerely apologize to my parents for any troubles I caused them as a child.

At least it's over with. Anao after trying on every costume in the mall, settled on being a pirate. Apparently she likes the bandanna and fake cutlass and she plans to say " trick or treat arr". I hope the people handing out candy find it as amusing as she does. She'll also be wearing it to school for the class Halloween party, I hope she doesn't get it dirty.

Owen settled for being a magician with a top hat, cape and all. He's going to try and take Rekha to school for the party and pull him out of the hat. I don't know if that will work or not but it would certainly be interesting to see.

Either way on Halloween I'll be taking the three of them out and helping them collect candy. I'm certain it will be an interesting experience this year.

Pash sighed and rubbed at his left eye with a free hand. It was irritated and itchy probably from cutting onion for his sandwich. Normally he resorted to cutting them underwater these days but he just didn't have the spare time to fill the sink then cute the onion and clean up afterwards. It was much easier just to peel and slice.

In his peripheral vision he noted briefly that Anao and Owen were sitting at the table eating their own sandwiches while Rekha hovered over their shoulders as if he too was hungry. As far as Pash knew his newest charge couldn't eat or drink so he may have just been curious. Or he was socializing either was entirely likely.

Finishing the sandwich preparation and clean up Pash leaned against his marble counter and bit into his sandwich. He closed his eyes briefly letting his other senses heightened to make up for the lost one. This made his sandwich just a tiny bit more savory which made it taste perfect. he would not forever be able to enjoy this for long

A gasp from Owen has his yes open in seconds. What he saw confused him. It was as if Rekha had become a foggy window , his colour had lightened and through them Pash swore he could see a child. It wasn't quite distant but he could make out reddish hair and green eyes.

Not certain what to do now Pash simply stared in awe at this new development. A swift glance at Anao showed her not even remotely phased by this. he narrowed his eyes making note that he was going to get her to talk about what was going on no matter what.

Taking another bite of his sandwich Pash just mentally sighed and kept watch on his charges. When he was done he would need to contact his bosses as well as talk to Owen about sharing his room

Changes

Owen sat on his bed and watched as his father moved new furniture in. It had been explained that Rekha, the smokey mass that had suddenly grown a face would be moving into his room becuase like how he had once been a leaf, everyone though Rekha might just be this way before he became solid too.

Running his brush over his ear Owen thought about this while he watched his father. Rekha was nice sometimes but not nice others, well just that one time and that was sort of Owen's on fault. They did both like soft quiet things though and they were both boys . Maybe it wouldn't be all bad.

Owen didn't like having to share Anao all the time, they were close, they groomed each other and shared licorice and went to school together. Rekha even if he became solid soon wouldn't be able to go to school till after Christmas. That might be good then, that Owen would at least have Anao alone at school.

Nibbling on his lower lip Owen decided that he would figure it all out when he had to. Worrying only made his stomach upset. Switching ears he continued his grooming while his father rearranged furniture and occasional cursed when Rekha got in the way

Welcome to the family

It had been several hours since Rekha had become corporeal and now Pash was sitting holding the baby in his lap while Owen and Anao, home from school.. sat on the floor looking at them and taking turns gently holding the egg that had emerged with their brother.

Rekha seemed content to look around with half closed sleepy eyes. Sleep green eyes that settled most often on the large egg that his siblings held. On occasion the tiny fingers on his small hands would reach out and grab for the blanket that held him or a lock of Pash's green hair.

Pash found this comforting, to know that like his previous children Rekha may be been birthed oddly but he was no different from the average baby in how he acted. It lessened his fears that his strangest arriving child so far would be the most difficult. Although the egg that had come with him concerned Pash there was little he could do about that but keep it warm and safe.

Owen carefully passed the egg to Anao and as he leaned forward he slowly reached a hand out an touched one of Rekha's small fingers. There was something indescribable in his eyes and Pash wondered what his eldest son was thinking.

The rabbit Eden made a soft unintelligible murmur when Rekha clasped a tiny hand around one of Ewen's fingers and shook it gently. The two boys watch each other for a moment and then both boys smiled.

"I like you" Owen said softly and then looked up at Pash " I won't mind sharing with him."

Pash was glad to hear this as he couldn't really afford a bigger house at this time. If the boys could tolerate each other for a while then having them share a room would be no problem.

The afternoon passed slowly and when Pash had to get up and cook dinner Anao and Owen watched Rekha with Anao sitting on the couch holding her brother while Owen cradled the mysterious egg in his lap.

They were an awkward family and they all had quirks but somehow they seemed to be fitting together ok.
