A parody contest. We pick the poem, the best parody wins. I don't know how you'd judge that.
A letter writing contest. Tell a story based on a single letter between two people. Maybe even a correspondence contest, either where the story is told through correspondences alone (poetic, prose, or otherwise) or where each entry is a letter between two characters and is in response to the previous entry.
A contest to write something that is meaningful whether read forwards or backwards. It would likely be easier to do this with poetry, since you have more license to play with wording there.
An ongoing "color prompt" contest.
A contest to write a whole (insert length of work) without using a certain letter of the alpahbet. Might also be ongoing, but only for a limited time.
A contest focusing around each of the five senses (in turn) such that the specified sense had to be the core of the piece.
A contest similar to MissSnark's Literary Fiesta-- something ongoing that absolutely requires me to produce a story every couple of weeks.
A combination Prose/Poetry contest. Short submissions. I will post and example and link to it from here.
How well do you know (insert name here). This could be fun, or embarrassing, or both. Depending on the name inserted!
A life experience contest. Some memory of an experience that had a profound affect. Such as picking up a hitchhiker, a near-call with some danger, an life-altering relationship... teacher, stranger, friend. Feel free to offer suggestions.
PUNS!!!
That should do it from what I've seen.... Correct me if I'm wrong, please. (I'm quite partial to a puns contest, but there would have to be some pretty original puns out there to convince me to give anyone first place ....)

mmk. So, I've concluded my second contest (a wonderful success, might I add, with much thanks to the Foundation!) and am currently contestless. Heh. Thus, seeing as my state of affairs of course affects everyone else who would be interested in doing this (hahah) I would like to try and set up the contest-sign-up thingamajiggitybob, pending management approval. *smiles cutely up at the powers that be*
The first step would either be to make a new thread devoted to it, or make a post in here that would serve as something updatable. It would become kind of a "contests to run" and "successfully completed contests" list/forum.
Another idea that might be prudent to at least consider, is having the guild as an entity (or the Foundation, or whatever sobriquet you wish to deem it) run contests. Pros(e, haha) and cons? Well, it might make for more consistent contests, and reliable ones at that. Then again, I don't think anyone might prefer something so abstract and removed; impersonal as far as hosts go. I don't know. Just a suggestion.
At any rate, however it's set up, I think it'd be awesome to pool the vast resources that are the minds of the guild, and come up with contest ideas that are not posessed by any single person, but instead are used by those in the guild that sign up to run them.
Meanwhile, I guess I'll see if I can't enter some contests here... and if nothing comes of this, I'm likely to begin on one or two contest ideas I suggested in this forum.
I'll be patient and wait a while. I know that happenings in this guild are anything but expedient, and that there are other changes occuring at this time.

Sooo.......... I'm going to start one of these sometime really soon unless anyone wants to do the whole sign-up thing... ? Hehe. Unlikely, I know. But I just thought I'd make the alert before doing it.

Hmm....I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I decided to give it a shot. I've put a contest thread together in the writer's forum--quite a large undertaking, as I've never hosted a public contest before. Here is the link....would anyone care to tell me what you think, and perhaps give me some advice on how to better run a contest? The "Quotes" Story Contest Thread

Yes, as soon as I have a few minutes to myself haha. The others may have a lot to say before I do, though.

^^ Aww, you're sweet.
....Hmm. Okay. I'm too tired to write. And that sucks.... Hmm....maybe I should go to sleep and just dream out the story.... *ponders for a bit, and then goes to hang out in her contest*

....You mean Christmas? Yes, as a matter of fact....I'm on the computer while my first batch of pumpkin bread is baking. I have to make three batches of bread with barely enough ingredients for two....

Quite well, actually! I made smaller loaves than I normally would. Less food, but it appears to be more to the untrained eye. ^^
Okay, SO. I....got a laptop for Christmas. My mom went PSYCHO and bought me the greatest gift ever!!!!
