Bob_Henry QUESTION!:: One reason I've always loved Pendragon was not only the plot and the characters (two must-haves) but the VOCABULARY!!! Honestly, how many other book characters wear "bright-freakin'-red shirt"s? Pendragon does! How many fantasy, sci-fi, or even fiction characters are afraid that "the electrodes would fart and blow us into a wall"(refering to Dado's driveing the car)? Pendragon does!! BUT! His vocabulary has advanced along with his age and the current era. BUT HOW WOULD HE KNOW WHAT PHRASES ARE POPULAR???????? He's been on Second Earth for about 3 days in the past year. Not enough time to absorb the latest lingo, or, as I have also pointed out, enough to differentiate Jonny Depp from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Pirates of the Carribean. All quotes are from book 7. I was reading it on the bus ride home from school around... wow, only about 20 minutes ago... and came up with these questions. ya thats one of the reasons its soo.... cool

anbuhikaru oo and i have to say this to bug shido: COOLIO!!!!!!!! rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl Gyaaaaaahhh! Not coolio!Oh, and when you read the eigth book, count how many times they used the phrase "blasted" which cracked me up. Like "Saint Dane blasted out of the flume". It killed me! But then I noticed MacHale continued to use it A LOT in the book. Go ahead and count!

I think that too! Pendragon's one of the best book seires I've read because of the lingo! I have never heard the phrase 'bright freaken red shirt' ever! and I know I spelled it wrong...can't spell at all...

Yes, it's all very modern teen-ager. And DJ does seem to be a bit too fond of one word or another every once in a while. It's all just sort of . . . "I learnded a new word!" lol, just kidding. He's very good with his word usage biggrin xd

I agree completely with Bob Henry on the subject of Bobby knowing things he's not supposed to. I do believe that when I read that, I went into a day long rant about how Bobby didn't know Johnny Depp was in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, or that there was even a remake of the movie coming out! I think I pissed off a few of my friends with it too, the ones who don't read the books and didn't know what Iwas on.
I like how McHale gives each territory it's own kind of style with words. And he was very accurate when quoting people in Third Earth. He does indeed have a way of words, but he really needs to think about some of the logic holes in his plots.
If he read this...heck, he'd probably be happy there's a Pendragon Guild in the first place and that people were discussing his books. Wouldn't it be wild if he had a Gaia account a anomonsously (sp??) joined the guild? If I was an author, I'd love to do that. It'd give you some insight on your readers views and stuff. 3nodding
But I digress.

I think Spader has some pretty cool lingo. Very out there but still kind of cool. To me anyway. I do wonder if there is some suspension of belief we are to use when reading the books. Like the whole time-traveling aspect of the flumes, maybe he could have seen the movies and been able to make the reference without ruining the Pendragon universe. Or at least that might be what DJ wants us to believe anyway. Maybe I should e-mail him about this.
