"Colorado" He said as he turned the kebabs.
Ra split the dough between himself and Obie and started to break off small pieces to flatten.
"Only two months. I had a good time." He laughed and turned back to face them. He nodded to Ra and spoke in Persian. Ra laughed and turned to Obie. "He said, now you know why the men in this family cook. To escape being outnumbered by women."

Obie started to copy Ra and smiled at Arash when he answered her. When Ra translated for her, she laughed as well. "Yes, I do see how cooking would be a nice escape and I'm sure the women don't mind at all," she smirked and looked up at Ra. "Is it the same way in your father's family?" she asked him.

Ra translated back and smirked as his uncle chuckled to himself. "No." Ra smiked placing his flattened dough onto a baking tray. "In my father's house men outnumber women, even when my mother came. Nobody dares set foot in my grandmother's kitchen."
He laughed a little and placed another piece of dough on the tray. "I prefer my mother's family, as Parisa says, things are less serious. My father is such an idiot. I know he prefers this." At that he gave a slightly sad smile and watched her make her share of the flatbreads. "What was christmas like in your house?" He asked quietly.

Obie listened to him as she placed her flattened bits of dough on the tray and watched Ra out of the corner of her eye. She caught the sadness in his smile but kept her attention on the work at hand. At his question, she paused and glanced up at him at the seemingly randomness of it. But then she smiled when she remembered that he had explained that Ramadan was like Christmas for his culture.
"Um..." she started, looking back down at the dough in her hands. "When we were little, Isa would always come into my room and make me get and go wake up our parents and then we would all go downstairs and start opening presents..." she frowned a little as she stopped talking and set another piece of dough on the tray. "To make an extremely long story short I would usually end up at my friend Jonathan's house," she finally said, after the familiar wave of bitterness passed. It was odd how the most mundane questions would spark it even though she was determined to let it go now that it was all over. Looking up at Ra, she gave him a bright, warm smile.
"How long does this celebration usually last?" she asked him, glancing over to watch his uncle for a moment.

"Tonight and all day tomorrow." He said, dusting his hands off to take her hand briefly and squeeze it. "It'll be tiring as we'll probably go to bed very late and wake up very early. I'll have to go to the mosque with my uncle and cousin."
Taking the trays of bread he placed them in the cooker and turned it on. "We should do something for christmas break." He said turning back to her and shoving his hands into his pockets. "Go abroad during break, to somewhere typical, like Germany."

Her smile softened a little and she returned his squeeze as she listened to him. She watched him put the trays in and smirked at his suggestion.
"You just can't sit still, can you?" she smirked as she wiped the flour from her hands. "But that could be fun," she smiled and reached up to brush a rogue lock of dark hair out of her eyes.

Ra shrugged and smiled. Having heard students complain about Japanese christmas not being real he thought it might be nice to go somewhere real. "It would be an experience."

Dinner had been a noisy yet relaxed affair, conversation volleyed back and forth as everone chattered and ate. The smaller children ending up with more food on them than in their mouths.
Once everything had been cleared up they sat around in the living room again laughing and talking. Obie and Ra sat on the floor with her mother small talking about university life.

Obie was laughing softly at the story Ra was telling and pulled her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs as she looked over to his mother. She was really very beautiful. So graceful and elegant and her happiness made her even more so. She reminded her very much of Ra in personality, even more so as they sat beside each other.

Somewhere in the room someone had placed some music on the stereo. The culprit, his grandmother. "It was getting too quiet." She smirked, sitting back in the chair. It was traditional stuff, from a random folk CD his mother had left lying around.
It had an instant effect on Nasrin and Shirin, the younger of Mahin and Arash's children. Deciding to take up the middle of the floor as children do they started a messing around dance that involved flailing arms and legs everywhere.
Parsia laughed at their antics and untied her scarf, letting her thick hair fall down around her shoulders and shaking them out. Standing before the two girls knocked something over she took them on and showed them how to do it. It looked like a cross between Indian dancing and bellydancing.
"Are you watching?" Ra smirked nudging Obie as Nasrin literally dragged Darya up to join them. "Parisa will make you ... and believe me she doesn't take no for an answer. Such a diva."

Obie looked up as the music started to play and watched with great amusement as the two little ones began to dance. Laughing at their antics, she watched as Risa rose to her feet and began to show them how to dance properly. Watching her movements closely, she almost didn't notice when Ra nudged her. Blinking, she glanced at him and smirked.
"Really? What makes you think I wouldn't want to," she smiled and reached back to pull the tie out of her long hair. "Just remember what I told you earlier," she smirked and pushed herself up to her feet as she shook the braid out. Walking over, she watched Parisa and Darya for a few moments and laughing began to join in.

Parisa clapped her hands as Obie stood and took it upon herself to show her how to move, going over the hip movements and arm movements.
Darya meanwhile walked up to Ra and grabbed his hand that he was trying to hide from her. "Come on Ra, up you get." She laughed pulling all her weight against his.
"No." He said shaking his head. "Not yet."
"Oh, too old to dance with your Auntie." She cried in Persian making sure the rest of the family would heckle him. Stopping she turned to Obie. "Going to dissapoint yourself infront of your girlfriend. You know what they say about men who can dance, right Obie." She snorted giving Obie a wink.

Obie was loving every moment. She hadn't felt so free in such a long time. Moving her hips and arms, she smirked as Darya began on Ra. She snorted in laughter at Darya's comment and made her way over to Ra.
"Remember Ne-chan... you promised," she smirked, arching a dark brow and beckoning for him to get up and join them with a finger, all the while still moving fluidly with the music.

Ra smirked and rolled his eyes. "But you looked like you were having so much fun on your own." He said with a laugh before standing up. Ususally he wouldn't care, messing aroung with Darya, Parisa and the kids.
With Obie there he felt like an idiot, especially as she was doing a damn good job without him there for the confidence boost. On his feet he turned to glare at his mother as she clapped him and laughed.
Giving Darya a wry smirk he started to move with them in their slightly exaggerated, half gyrating dance. He honestly didn't think things could get more embarrasing. It felt like he was dancing for a room of strangers.

Obie could see the flush on Ra's cheeks and knew it had nothing to do with the physical aspects of the dancing. Smirking she watched him for a moment, a teasing remark sure to make him turn at least six more shades of red on the tip of her tongue, but she withheld and gave him a wink instead.
"Who knew you had it in you," she smirked at him and then turned to dance with Parisa.

Ra smirked back at Obie and emersed himself in something of a contest with Darya on who could move their hips the fastest. She was winning. "You've been dancing for money again haven't you." He joked. Earning himself a slap on the arm. Stopping a moment he watched Obie and Parisa in their mini lesson.
He smiled, Obie looked so happy. Not to mention the fact she moved really well. It was incredibly attractive. Turning back as e knew he couldn't dance with her. He and Darya started a co-ordinated dance to the next song. it took him way back to when he was a child. A time before he had all these worries. It made him smile.
