Another chuckle escaped him, and he guided them in the direction of the river.
"I haven't seen you around here before, Loki, are you new?"

New to the area, yes. agh, what ELSE did he mean? she thought to herself. She allowed him to lead the way to the river, even though she knew how to get back. I used to live way north of here.. with my old pack. pangs of heartache hit her when she said this, remembering her mother and father, brothers and sisters.

"Really? ... Mind if I ask what made you come here?" They reached the rivers edge after a few moments of walking. His heartrate took that chance to calm back down again, though he still felt a bit of a rush. He'd never run like that and felt so alive before. His eyes found her again in the dark, understanding. "If it's a touchy subject, you don't have to answer. I don't remember anything of my own pack, so I couldn't exactly return the favor to you."

Loki stood close to the water, she arched her neck down and lapped at the cold water. My pack died out.. they were too stubborn to move, so they essentially starved themselves to death. I have an older brother and younger sister left that I know of... I just don't know where they are. she drank again, then turned to sit by him and gaze up at the stars. My parents were so stubborn, but I don't even remember them now. she added, shuddering. The rain had subsided, leaving a cold breeze. What about your current pack? she asked, looking at him.

"Pride can be dangerous..." He looked at her with a somber expression, as if disapproving. Was pride really worth sentencing an entire pack to death? It was mind-boggling...!

Hige too took a drink of water, before going on. "I honestly can't remember anything about my old pack. I've always been on my own, until I came here, I mean. It seems like everything before a certain point is just a blur in my mind. I can't even remember what they looked, sounded, or smelt like."
He stepped into the cold water, until he was in up his legs, eyes trained to watch for passing trout. They would be scarce, this time of year. Most had gone upstream and only the stragglers were really left behind.
"My current pack, well... I met Selia when I first arrived in these woods, I also met Yero and two of his friends though we didn't talk then. Selia took me in like a son, and Devvyl naturally became my father." His ears twitched, "that makes Yero my pack-brother, and I've recently taken in a pup myself, named Thayne. He's like a little brother to me... We're all a part of the pack, including the others."

((XD I just realized, if Fae's den is in a waterfall, all the trout might try to jump right past the mouth of the cave trying to get upstream))
Loki nodded in agreement. She had wanted to leave the pack for quite some time.. before they all died. They told me I would never survive without them... finally they couldn't tell me that anymore. She also waded into the water and stood still, letting any remaining fish get used to her being there. I met a pup when I settled on the banks of this river.. soon after, we together met an older male who invited us to his and his mate's den. They want to move out and start following the herds tomorrow... she said quietly.. sighing at the same time.

Hige remained silent at that, it seemed like they'd be going on different paths... He had already promised Selia and Devvyl that he'd accompany them to new territory, they... were his parents now, he couldn't just abandon the pack... He wondered for a minute if Loki would be happy with the pack she'd choosen...
He relieved his face of the cold breeze blowing down the river, turning his head to look at her again quietly... "You don't sound too happy with the idea...?"

She looked over at him. I don't know.. really. I'm attached to the pup, but things he's said makes it sound as though he's not too partial to members of your pack. She had no clue what to do... she didn't want to part with Hige and she sensed the same from him. She knew the pup, Gaara, would feel betrayed, Faenaro and his mate would too.. but she didn't care too much about them, as she hadn't really gotten to know them.

"Well... why don't you both come with us...?" He seemed hopeful, looking at her with a glimmer of hope in his eyes. He had smelled the distinct but faint scents of Khal and Fae on her when they met, but he'd pushed it aside. Hige didn't judge others from the first impressions, and he was sure that Loki didn't judge from what she'd heard. What he was asking her did sound a bit selfish though... ((*feels like slime XD;;*))
((But really he wouldn't ask her to leave the pup behind xD he's adopted one himself *Lol* *finds the coincidences quite amusing*))

She snuffled at his ear, scaring a fish away in the process. I'll ask him. He should be awake and angry by the time I get back to the den. she laughed at this. He was really a spitfire, she was probably lucky he didn't attack her at the river the first time they met. I would love to come with you. she said finally, and went back to being still for the fish's sake.

A goofy expression came to his face, that he couldn't hide, and were it not for the fish, he'dve shown his relief right then and there. X3
~This will be great, it feels even more like a pack already...~
With new vigor, Hige set to the task of catching them some late dinner. It was a little while later that he'd managed to catch three fish, all tossed onto the shore. He licked the water from his muzzle and shook the water from his head and neck fur. This of course sent it everywhere in playful little droplets. "I'll tell them tomorrow, and come find you guys. Should we meet up here?"

Sure thing, here is good. she said hoping Gaara would take well to the proposal.. and hoping the alphas of Hige's pack would take well to her. She sat and took a fish, ripping at it.. daintily.

Hige let her eat first for a bit, then pulled aside one for himself and began to eat. He was worried though he refused to show it. He had seen Fae's temper, and knew if he found out about this then he'd probably give his pack (hige's) hell and high water on the matter. More than that, he hoped that Loki and her friend would be alright.... maybe he should follow her back and stay downwind just in case things didn't go well...
