"Your guardian seemed to have done it without difficulty. Here is where I found her, and here is where I brought her the other, the boy whose sins have become the catalyst for our current situation."

He said all of this while his eyes remained focused on a speck coming closer, the one in the same direction from where he heard the screech. As it loomed towards them, he was surprised to find that it was in fact a bird; or rather a blazing creature with birdlike features. The phoenix scanned the land below it as it flew overhead, but once it passed over Michael's imposing stature it's shadow was coupled with yet another screech. He couldn't have known that this had anything to do with Jada, but something about seeing a mythological creature flying past worried him.

It took his attention away just long enough, and when he returned his gaze to the skies, they opened up in a blaze of bright light. Streaks of blinding white cut through the clouds, aimed at the ground below. A sound both hypnotizing and maddening at the same time began to fill the air, as the choirs of angels in heaven sang for Michael's defeat.

The clouds swirled like a tornado, and broke open to allow a golden clad figure to float down from them. A shining gold chestplate and armor clad her body, fitted with matching boots and gloves. The warrior's helmet still covered her head, coming to a point at her forehead. In her hands, held at the ready as though urged to plunge any moment, her trident was still held.

There before Michael stood the epitome of the Avenging Angel.

Michael flayed his wings out, hiding Marcus behind them just for the moment.

"Bring out the accused." Her voice boomed out, vibrating the air with it's intensity. Voices around her whispered that Michael must fall before she punished the wicked, but she gave them no heed.

Donner came first.

Marcus had never in his life seen a pheonix, yet in all of his studies he'd never known that one could appear so frightening. He gulped a little, watching the foreboding symbol streak across the sky. He couldn't help but cringe at the ear splitting screach that seemed almost as if it was going to rent the very skies in two.

Marcus turned his head slightly to Michael, regarding his reaction, and inwardly shuddering just a little. If he had had a moment longer, he would have mentioned that Dragonfly was far more agile than he was; but before he could Jada's imposing form filled his vision. Then Michael's wing obscurred his view.

Funny though, how the heaven's really had torn in two for Jada's descent.

Jada's voice sounded terrible to his ears, and he cringed back a little. He was unable to believe that it was really her speaking in such a dangerous, horrible tone. Never before would he have been able to believe that such a sound was able to come from his beloved's voice.

But then Jada wasn't the same now. This he had to remind himself.

"Jada," he thought, closing his eyes to steel his will once more.

"I will not let you have him." Michael replied, infuriating the avenging angel. Jada rose her trident up over her shoulder, and held it straight, aimed for the angel. Her eyes narrowed in determination, as even her soft whisper was carried through the air.

"So be it."

The phoenix's cry rang through the air, signalling her attack. She descended upon Michael, prepared to plunge her trident into his heart and send him into damnnation, but as she came down her eyes caught sight of the silhouette of someone hiding behind his wing, flanked by the sunlight. Her lips curled upward in a triumphant sneer, and she flew towards this new goal, intent on piercing the heart of the one Michael dare hide from her.

A moment before she was too close to stop herself, Michael pulled back his wing in a flourish, and Jada was left with the vision of Marcus instead of Donner. She pulled back awkwardly, stopping suddenly in mid-air and backpeddling as quickly as she could. Her expresion melted into horror at the sight, and her trident lowered, before finally falling from her grip and clattering on the ledge just below her.

There the mighty angel hovered, just above them, struck with horror at what she had almost done.

She had almost killed Marcus.

She had almost killed Marcus.

She had almost killed Marcus.

The heavens hummed with noise, no longer the hypnotic singing from before. This turn of events didn't look good for their plans..

Jada was frozen in mid-air, her lips parted yet no sound would come out. She felt as though someone had clenched their hand around her heart and squeezed it until there was nothing left but pulp. She couldn't move, she couldn't speak, she couldn't think.

The voices in her head began to fill her thoughts, trying to assure her that she had done nothing wrong, that Michael was right beside her, that this was her chance, but she could hear none of them.

She had almost killed Marcus. No other thought could get to her.

In the moments that passed since Jada's arrival, Marcus could hardly discern the events that followed. He heard Michael's reply to her, and the whisper of Jada's voice. The flurry of feather's, the near brush with the tips of Jada's trident, the wind from her wings as she backed away, the crash of the trident to the ground, and whispers.

Whispers... Whipsers... Whispers...

Time slowed around him, and he took in a long, slow breath. He had almost died by Jada's hand, this much he could pull from his numbed mind.

"Jada," Marcus said, his voice neither accusing, nor judgemental.

He took a step forward, though he could feel his legs shaking from the aftershock of his brush with death. He reached a hand out to her, gazing solemnly up at her, his eyes filled with forgiveness, and longing. He just wanted Jada to be herself again... This Jada... This Jada was wrong. All wrong...

"Jada," he repeated, holding his arm steady, "I forgive you... Please, forget Donner. He will atone for his sins, but- but not now.. Please Jada... Come back,"

She heard her name fall from his lips, and it crushed her. Just the sound of his voice, the look in his eyes, the way he reached out to her despite.. despite..

She flew back an inch when he stepped forward, as if afraid to touch him. Her eyes stared at his hand in fear, but her gaze rose sharply when he spoke.

There in his eyes, and in his words, she felt like she was falling in love with him all over again. It was both wonderful and frightening at the same time.

The tips of her bare feet touched the ledge as she landed, stilling her wings behind her. She stood directly beside Michael, though they faced the opposite directions. She had forgotten he was there, so lost was she in Marcus' eyes.

Her eyes filled with tears, and she reached up to pull the golden helmet off her head. It fell to the floor with a clatter, and all the long locks of blueblack curls fell tumbling around her as they were freed.

Still, she feared touching him. What if.. what if she couldn't?

"Marcus.." She whispered out in a emotion wracked breath.

Marcus gazed at Jada with remorse, and love. He smiled ever so softly to her, every fibre of his being forgiving her. He loved her so dearly... No mistake would ever shatter this love, not even his close shave with death could deter his feelings for her.

If this wasn't true love, Marcus didn't know what was.

He took a shy step closer, though he was careful in his stride. First and foremost, he didn't want her to leap away from him, knowing that she was probably filled with guilt. But no, her feet touched the banaster, and Marcus waited.

Marcus too, found that his eyes were watering, and he sniffed heavily, though he didn't raise his other hand to wipe the crystaline water's pooling in the corner's of his eyes away.

"Jada," he replied with just as much emotion.

His hand was still outstretched to her, and though Jada worried, Marcus did not. Marcus trusted in his love, and in God, to guide him back to Jada's arms. No one who truly called themselves 'God' could torture such innocent souls with the inabilaty to touch. This was what Marcus believed, at least.

A slow, achingly hesitant hand rose delicately upward, fingers outstretched as if to test the air before daring to try and reach out to him. Jada knew she couldn't handle if their touch was unbearable, and it would only fling her back into the depths of despair. She was scared, unbelievably scared.

Yet still her fingers reached out, a breath away from his own. Fingertips grazed his touch delicately, before alighting upon his hand with her own.

A silent hush fell upon the whispers, as they watched.

Her hand slid effortlessly into his, more firmly with every second that passed, and she felt no pain. She took his hand and hopped off the ledge, edging towards him with a sudden urgency, until she fell against him. A pained sound left her lips, but it was from heartache, and not any physical pain.

Her actions erupted the heavens in noise, but she couldn't hear them. She couldn't possibly care. All she cared about was Marcus. He filled her heart and her mind and her soul. No amount of heavenly angels raised in angry chorus could get to her now.

Marcus watched in silence as Jada reached for him, and he turned his palm ever so slightly, so that his hand was stretched wide, and waiting. He felt their fingertips touch, and a slow, warm electricity ran through him. Gently he took her hand, holding it with his own. He smiled widely to her, assisting her into his arms by giving her a faint pull to rest there. His arms wrapped securly around her, and he held her close, his head dipping to lightly nuzzle the curve of her neck.

No words were needed to describe the immense love that he felt for her. His angel, his guiding light. All he'd ever need was in his arms, pressed against him.

He took a deep breath in her hair, absorbing the gentle smell that lingered from it, nuzzling again, before pulling away to press a soft, chaste kiss upon her lips.

All he'd ever needed in his life, was Jada. His angel. His light.

The cold metal armor that guarded her body melted away, simply covering her in soft gold cloth that didn't hinder her from holding him. She felt as though she fit perfectly in his arms, like a missing puzzle piece sliding into place.

She lifted her head to him when he kissed her, and her eyelids fluttered closed as she leaned against him, all strength lost to his kiss at first. Still, this was no time for chastity. While his kiss took her strength, his love gave it back, and she returned his kiss passionately.

Still, the noise around them continued, and Michael, whose eyes never left the heavens, frowned angrily. Had his half-self truly been this bad at containing those who sought after his power?

He took Jada's trident from the floor, and flung himself into the heavens, floating just above the clouds where they had opened their path to the angels. There he took the trident, and brought it upon his knee, breaking it in two.

"Hear me now, you wretched souls. You shall not use this child in your favor. So sayeth I, he who will wipe your corruption from the grace of God!"

The noise multiplied, turning into screams of fear and angry shouts. As unbearable as it became, even Jada pulled away and covered her ears, wincing in it's wake. She turned to look upward, letting the scene sink in. She considered her part in the tale, and was ashamed. Leaning heavily against Marcus, she felt weak from guilt. "I did this.." She whispered, to no one in particular. "I did it all."

Marcus returned all the passion she set unto him, and he couldn't help but sigh happily when it was done. A blissful smile was upon his features, and his eyes were half-lidded. Then reality struck him, and he furrowed his brow as he gazed skyward, to where Michael made his imposing statement.

He bit his bottom lip, before looking to Jada, sorrow alive in his eyes.

"I won't lie, Jada. Yes, part of this is your fault. But- but you are not all to blame," he whispered, running his fingers through her hair in an attempt to comfort her, "It was Donner. He did this- he triggered all of this, and you're love for me... You wanted to get back at him, for me. It's not all your fault Jada... I swear..."

It was so easy to push blame off on someone else, and Marcus reminded her of just how easy it was, by reminding her of Donner. Her eyes narrowed for a moment, and she looked over his shoulder for the boy.

"Donner." She whispered, her voice still crackling with emotion, but angered at the same time. "Where is he?"

There was argument up above, but it had begun to quiet, as if it was getting farther, and farther away. Michael was closing the bond between heaven and earth, intent on reclaiming his position without having to worry about them using Jada once more. He trusted her to the hands of Marcus, and set about to his work in heaven once more.

Soon, however, he knew he would have to return to speak with Ane. None of this bode well for them, and he attempted to have some kind of hope that a resolution would be found for them just as one had occurred for Marcus and Jada.

When Jada questioned Donner's whereabouts Marcus was faintly worried that Jada was going to attempt a round two at killing him; however, the look in Jada's eyes, and her demeanor now said otherwise.

"I... I don't know. He's in the house- somewhere- I think... I'm not sure," Marcus replied, honostly.

He hadn't the slightest clue where Donner was. He assumed that he was somewhere in the house, but the house was just so large he didn't even know where to begin a search.

Marcus had all but forgotten Michael, but when he realized this he looked up to see if the archangel was even visible anywhere anymore.

Jada wasn't quite as zealous about killing Donner as she once was, but she was nowhere near forgiving him for what he'd done to Marcus.

"He's a horrible, horrible person." She murmured out, her voice sounding childish and quiet. Jada's arms clung to Marcus' shirt, as if any moment something would take him away.

"I'm so tired.." She whispered into the cloth, closing her eyes for a moment. The recent past felt like it was all a bad dream.. some elaborate, carefully woven dream made up by her imagination. But she knew better.

God, but it felt so good to be in Marcus' arms again. She felt like she'd been away for years, when it was only a day or so since she'd seen him. She never wanted to leave, ever.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 09, 2006 10:26 pm

Marcus silently nodded in agreement with Jada, continueing to run his fingers gently through the other's hair. At Jada's second statement, his embrace tightened a little, and he sighed very softly.

"Me too Jada," he whispered, truly feeling the exhaustion that had set into his bones.

Jada wasn't the only one who felt as though he had been separated from the other for years on end. It was as if Marcus had been exiled from her, and to have her back now, like this in his arms, it was all Marcus could do not to shed tears of joy.

It was then that Dragonfly made an entrance, having sensed that, for the most part, the worst of it was over. When she spyed Jada and Marcus, she felt it best to keep herself silent, and thus slipped back down the roof, and onto the proper balcony, and into the library. It seemed everything was over, for the moment at least.
