The Red Roze What makes Raoul a fop? Nothing, as far as I know. He isn't a fop. People just call him one, for some reason....I wonder whose idea it was to start calling him a fop *ponders* Whoever it was, they sure as hell don't know what kind of pandemonium they started.

Here's a thought: Stop saying Christine should have done this or that, and supporting one side and attacking the other. Gaston Leroux did not set to write about our phantasmic little love triangle just to have random phangirls mangle his characters into things they aren't.
Enjoy the storyline, people. That's the purpose of the Phantom's story, to inform and entertain.

Raoul's brain is being screwed up because a girl that he's loved since childhood has turned into a totally different person because of an influence in her life that Raoul has absolutely no control over.
Lots of people cry about love. Erik cried about love. I see no one calling him a fop because he cried.

The man fell to his knees and kissed Christine's skirts as he sobbed, being a pitiful whiny baby. Also, if you look at any other book of the era or older, I can guarantee a tough guy in the book cries. Hell, look at Frankenstein's monster. Big scary thing gets emotional!

Ok, all Phans from this thread, listen! When I said that I wasn't the Phan I am now. I realize that all you've said is true, and I now think that Raoul was simply a man tortured by love, as was Erik. Erik, however, was tortured by the human race along with it, so he does have better reason to cry for love. Raoul still can though, 'tis not like it's illegal for him to do so.

I realize that all you've said is true, and I now think that Raoul was simply a man tortured by love, as was Erik. Erik, however, was tortured by the human race along with it, so he does have better reason to cry for love. Raoul still can though, 'tis not like it's illegal for him to do so. Wait, so you're saying because Erik's ugly he has a better excuse for crying? Nonononono. If we want to get into an emo fight, it would be a tie. Erik was ugly and his parents hated him. Raoul's mother died in giving birth to him (ultimate guilt trip) and his father died when he was young, possibly before he could remember him well. Erik was hated, Raoul lived through self-hate for killing his mother. Not to be mean, but they're equals.

Don't take it personally, dear. This subject is an extremely touchy subject in even the friendliest of Phan Guilds. There needs to be open minds towards all the characters of PotO (yes, even though Carlotta is despised, we can be civil to wards here- rarely)

There needs to be open minds towards all the characters of PotO (yes, even though Carlotta is despised, we can be civil to wards here- rarely) Honestly, I have no prefrence to any characters except Erik and Christine at this point. (and as for Carlotta, the only one I dislike is the OLC, she sings about 3 octaves higher than ALW Carlotta.)

I like both men equally, but I have minor problems with the whole "well Raoul cries a lot" thing. The subject comes up enough outside the guild that I can get touchy with anyone on it.
