And Keanu was done. The man had moved ontot he next victim, the most familiar figure int he room.

Paxton.

A slight bit of curiosity peeked in the boys face a moment before he shoved it down. No, no, he had to be careful with this teacher, no letting his guard fall even for an instant. This guy was definitely not one to be ignored, he could read your mind afterall. Or whatever that was. Still, he was curious what Paxton would be.

His hand paused in the action of petting the dragon's forehead as the man began muttering quietly. He couldn't hear it of course, it was like what the man had said to him about his capabilities. Something no one else heard. At least that was he assumed, it had been in that low voice when he said it. It made some sense.

Ah there it went, the teacher was talking aloud again. Pleasure of the body?

Sadly this didn't quite register for Keanu as what it really was, instead the idea that came to mind was that Paxton hadn't been telling him about some martial arts class he must be taking. He'd certainly need to ask about that later. Certainly that had to be it if he was a body type. Which meant he'd have a new sparring partner soon, what an excellent surprise.

((Thanks for explaining, Raja))

To say that the young bat girl perked up at the teacher's words would be to greatly exaggerate her reaction. She did, however, stop whimpering to herself, even going so far as to force herself back into proper posture. She'd just... she'd just try not to think about having some strange man in her head. She'd try to remember that he was a teacher.

It didn't help that none of the other kids got assigned mind. She'd hoped to be in a group with Ligeia or Keanu, someone she knew and thought she'd be able to chat with. Instead, she was finding herself in a group with... no one, so far.

Did that mean she'd have to work alone with the teacher? Earako bit her lip at the idea, but obediently wrote down what the teacher had said.

Laial blinked for a second before writing down 'Paxton - Body'. That surprised him, as he always thought of Paxton as strong as himself. Maybe being a Body type didn't always mean strength? In fact, the teacher said something about 'pleasing the body', which Laial guessed had nothing to do with strength.

This class got more confusing the longer he was in here. At least no one was here that would attack him...right? Sure, he didn't get along with Chath, Paxton, or Earako, but he didn't think they would attack him...right? Subconciously, a few tentacles withdrew into his shell.

Still scribbling down frantically Chath paused as he watched the teacher approach Paxton. this was the fix time he had met the love bird boy, but he felt he had met someone similar before...

Ah yes...Gabby. He wondered if they were related. He was a bit curious at what the teacher was saying to him and when he mentioned alloud 'pleasures of the body' he felt a bit confused.

Did...this mean what he thought it meant? He shook his head...no no it couldn't be. Paxton was around the same age as himself...there was no way.. but yet he couldn't shake the feeling and tried to focus back on his assignment.

He would have to ask someone for notes later...definately later.

Now that he was back to paying attention Ligeia wondered if he should be taking notes of what everyone was catergorized into. They had been told that they were to pay attention to not only their own lessons but those of the other students as well, so... he figured that was a sure sign that he should be. He quickly wrote down the names on his notes. Keanu, Earako, Paxton he knew from shared classes or other run ins, the other two Chath and Laial he knew not from his own experiance but from notes of his father's that he'd seen. He wrote down next to the names the element that they were assigned so far. He and Keanu had Spirit, Earako had Mind, while Paxton had Body. That left Laial and Chath unaccounted for.

He turned to glance over at the pair wondering which of them was going to be next for assessment and what element they were to be classed under.

"Now...", Thomas slowly turned his gaze onto the next child, walking himself towards him slowly. Almost like a predator slowly approaching his next prey. Chath...the late-comer, but also one that was dreading his assessment over that of the other student. "Hmm..." Thomas slapped his cane on the edge of the boy's desk to grab his attention. No looking away once his eyes caught the large black ones of the newt boy.

"How very odd." A single brow lowered into what might have been the beginning of a frown... or perhaps he was amused. "A newt with a heart not too distant from that of the leopard. Very unusual for a creature that commonly hides under rocks."

He leaned forward once more, his silvery hair falling around his shoulders and neck, his voice hissing, "Don't always trust that of what seems most noble... heroes are often found in the bodies of the rebels and trouble makers while those that seem trustworthy are those most likely to stab you in the back. The sooner you learn this the sooner you can begin focusing on your mind studies... I also suggest a diet of protein, heroes and knights would never be seen half as scrawny..."

He stood back, projecting his voice once more, "The heart of a hero is one fueled by the spirit... and thus your studies shall be centered around. Heroes are rarely wise and true strength doesn't lie in the body. Learn this quickly or it shall be your end oh damp one."

Chath had nearly jumped out of his skin when the cane rapped against his desk, his dark eyes met with the teachers and it felt like something was probing his thoughts. He recoiled at first, trying to figure out a way to defend himself but that was soon forgotten as his proffessor spoke.

Hide under rocks? Never. Don't trust the most noble? Rebels and trouble makers? Was he doing this all wrong? SCRAWNY? Yah he had to admit he wasn't exactly the most buff person in the room but he wouldn't say he was scrawny.

He joted down notes, feeilng mildly annoyed though he tried not to show it. He was Spirit. Learning from spirit. He would show this teacher he was more than worthy of earning the title of hero.

So, Chath wasn't 'Mind' either. While Earako didn't know him all that well, and wasn't sure how she felt about him after manners class, she wished he'd been put in her group at least. Just so someone was. She really didn't want to learn alone.

Was it so weird to be focused on the mind? Was there something wrong with her? Or maybe it was that she was the only girl in the class. Earako hadn't noticed that before, but looking from her left to her right she realized that she had boys on every side at her. Even the teacher was a man. At least, at least they were D-corp kids like her, which meant they couldn't be bad.

Except the teacher. He worked for D-corp, sure, but he wasn't one of the kids. And as much as she tried to respect all her teachers and the lab techs too, he was scary. And a stranger.

She bit her lip, glancing hopefully over at the last boy. Her memory of him was distant, but she didn't have the feeling of trust she did with some of the other boys in the room. Still, she wanted him to be a mind like her. She didn't want to be the only one.

Another person that was studying spirit? He looked Chath over then gave a litte smile before he scribbled down the name and the element down on the paper with the rest of the class thus far. That left one last person, the one with the tentacles, Laial. He wondered where at he would be placed and then, once everyone was placed he wondered what they would be doing then.

Vorel lifted his head up, looking from Ligeia to his bag, to his partner to the bag... when he was sure the owl child was to caught up in the class and listening to his teacher he started to dig around in the bag with his muzzle, stealing out a frozen treat that was in a plastic bag within. Tastey he thought before chewing on it, looking at the other dragons. The atmosphere was tense, he wondered why...?

Ligeia glanced down at his dragon before reaching down to pat him on the head, closing his bag up while trying to continue to keep his mind on the teacher's voice.

Another spirit. That was interesting enough, but what had also been said caught the child's attention far more. The fact that someone else in the room wanted to be a hero. He had heard it correctly, right? He eyed the other boy curiously before grinning broadly.

Someone else to talk about going on adventures, slaying monsters, and saving people with. Someone who didn't join in reluctantly anyway. Paxton might have put up with him dragging him along sometimes, but it was obvious he didn't really LIKE it. Well, now if the teacher was right he'd have another person to have join in. Someone who would enjoy it.

He'd certainly have to try to get the orange-hued boys name later just for that reason. Maybe if they broke off into groups to study their different types? They couldn't all be learned the same way, so he only assumed as much.

Ymir gave a low yawn, lifting his head to glance briefly around the room at the group. Seemed like they were almost done with this first odd ritual, so what would they be doing next?

Laial mentally sighed when he chose Chath. At least that would mean he was next. ' Chath - Spirit ' And still no one else was Mind or Body. Poor Earako and....Paxton. More Earako than Paxton. He still wasn't that fond of the bright colored bird.

Again, his thoughts wandered to what might differentiate a Spirit student from a Mind or Body student. The three ones with wings were in different groups, so it probably had nothing to do with appearence. Neither was the amount of appendeges, seeing that he was the only one with more than six (counting wings). Personality, perhaps?

Heiko impatiently rocked back a bit under her master's desk. Bored bored bored bored.

"Now...", Thomas turned and started towards the last child, Laial, the strange boy inside the shell. Even before he had reached the desk he had drawn the boy's eyes to him, catching him into that 'tunnel' where at one end there the boy's eyes and waiting there on the other end like a cat watching a mouse in its hole- Thomas' own golden eyes. He'd feel completely exposed, even his shell seemed futile and useless. Like all eyes were on him, nothing was hidden. There were no secrets, no where to hide, and no chance of escaping that gaze. "You're a bit more difficult...."

Thom leaned forward, his hands folded neatly behind his back as he came just inches away from the boy's face. Once more his voice hissed to the other students, low grumbles and mutterings though to Laial it would be clear as anything, "Your spirit's a bit weak, you're too afraid of what people think of you, how you stand out, how odd you are... you're always looking over your shoulder and hiding in a shell... whether or not I'm implying the physical or not is your choice. Physically you're not very focused either... but that's self explanatory for a child based on a creature without a backbone."

He stood himself up, projecting his voice to the rest of the class, "Your strength however lies in your mind... many may underestimate what you can do and how you're able to accomplish it but there in lies an advantage. A clever person knows to hide what they're capable of from everyone until it's necessary, focus on what makes you strong rather than what makes you weak and do not hide your ability from yourself."

He turned and made his way back to the board, "Your focus of study will be the element of mind."

The chalk lifted up once more and neatly jotted down the children's names and their assigned element. Thom looked over the chart. It was uneven but it was to be expected... he couldn’t hope for an equal number in the classroom much less an equal amount of students studying the same thing.

"Paxton it seems I'll be your study partner for the majority of this semester. The rest of you are to break into groups during study hour and learn something about each other, I want a group paper written about why you think you and your group mates think that you got which element you did and a presentation in front of the class by a single team mate by the end of class." He turned and sat himself down at his desk.

Another spirit? My, my that was certainly curious. Not that Paxton minded it all you see...Earako was still alone and--What? The pencil the boy had been chewing on in his mouth dropped to the ground with a soft clank which seemed to echo.

Not in the classroom anymore, mentally Paxton was millions of miles away on a frozen cold artic tundra...alone. He was, he was--the only Body magic user in class!? Even that sweet girl Earako had someone to talk with now. Then again, thinking upon it, Paxton realized he hadn't expected Laial to be spirit. If spirit meant being strong inside and or pure (which from the gist of it, it seemed to be) Laial wasn't all that special. But mind that didn't seem to fit either--yet, given the choice between mind or body, Laial fit mind better.

Damn it.

There wasn't even anyone to strike up a conversation about how they were the outcasts of the spirit gang, which everyone and their uncle seemed to be in. More upsetting than being singled out though was getting Thomas for a partner. In the lovebirds mind a debate began. Mr. Barkhelm for a partner, advantage--or catastorphy?

Having the teacher as his partner would mean everything would be taught and done perfectly. Paxton couldn't get away with screwing anything up in that man's eyes, there was simply no way. At least his magic abilities would be in their prime...if Thomas didn't kill him first. Honestly, he wanted to get along with everyone. If he loved the world, the world should be madly back in love with him. How did one going about getting this strange teacher to like them though?

A passing glance at the man who had now moved to his desk. He certainly couldn't go about in that way, getting Mr. Barkhelm to like him. Visions of the silver haired man being woo-ed only lasted briefly and then shattered. Had...had he really pictured that?

Blonde strands of hair flung back and forth while he shook his head. No, no...he just needed to busy himself with something else. Thankful, Paxton reached into his bag for a sheet of paper. Looks like he would be writing this assignment alone. But would he really have to explain it to the class?

A partner? and a class presentation? he had to resist the urge to sitck out hit tongue in mild disgust. Well...at least he wouldn't be alone. He tossed a glance at the other classmates and only reconized Earako and Lial. He didn't know either of them well but at least he reconized them.

He wondered as he looked down at his note pad and noticed he had missed Earako on his list. He had come in late...guess this would be good of an excuse as any to ask her to be his partner. Since he was sitting beside her he leaned over a half smile on his lips.

"You care to be partners? Or did ones get assigned before I came in?" he asked in a half whisper.

Though the young bat had calmed considerably since earlier in the class, she was hardly completely relaxed. The announcement of another of her type was comforting, even if she barely knew Laial at all. And the poor bright bird, she spared a look toward him, frowning as she admired his colours. Well, he was pretty. Even if he did have to work alone, at least he could look nice doing it.

Chath's voice made her start, wings twitching and closing tightly about her body. Partners?

"I thought we were supposed to work with our type," she admitted, biting her lip. "But I'm not sure, really."
