Taabu smiled weakly, though he knew inwardly that he had dissapointed her with not being able to locate the lands. Maybe he could follow the river one day - maybe it would lead to cliffs, if not in the kusini lands, perhaps somewhere close. Then maybe she could see a waterfall - maybe he could show her one.

But that was not a thought to be entertaining now, not when he had need of living in the present and not the future.

"Our forest is big, thick, and probably a little scary towards sundown," he glanced to the sky, tail flickering as he began to turn in the direction of the old wood - "You sure you want to go?"

Scary? What was scary about trees? Crawling through the thick undergrowth that had been dark during the day had never given her a moment's pause, even as a young cub, so why would this forest worry her? Besides, Taabu was there.

It took her a moment to realise that the thought of him 'being there' in a place that may be scary was comforting, and once she did, she coughed. "I'm sure we'll be fine. I'm here to protect you if you get too scared, after all."

She smirked as she padded forward a few paces with an energy and bounce she hadn't felt in a while. Something about being in his company livened her spirits, preventing her from remaining down. She didn't know what it was, but she wasn't willing to give up the feeling just yet.

Taabu laughed at her comment, his eyes narrowing as she walked along ahead of him - his eyes on her rather graceful little body, "Yes, because I'm sure if anything big and viscious came along, you could fend it off." He didn't dare to comment on her size in any way, shape, or form - he knew honestly that she had issues with being so small.

He purred softly as he walked along, slowly bringing the pair up to the great dense forrest - his playplace as a young cub. There were certainly things that could make a cub scared at night, with the shadows dancing as they did. "There we are, Ny, the big wood.." he glanced back at her, brow quirked, "Ladies first."

Nyunya laughed in turn at his, looking over her shoulder at him and arching an eyebrow. "Of course I could. You haven't seen what I can do." With a wink, she bounces into the trees.

Dear gods, was she flirting? This was seriously not good. And all his fault, she was sure.

Her paws found what appeared to be a path of some kind through the trees, passage of those who had walked this forest before her, looking around curiously. Her burning desire to explore had diminished as she grew older, but it was still there, evident in her expression. If it weren't for Taabu's company, she'd already be gone, letting her paws take her over every inch of land here.

"It's different from the forests at home... but it still feels somehow familiar. I like it here," she murmurs, though whether it's to him or herself is anyone's guess.

Taabu grinned as he listened to her words, slowly slinking after her down the slightly trodden path, knowing it nearly as well as the path to his own den or the den of his grandparents. He just followed along behind her, letting her explore at her will - after all, he knew all the twists and turns of the forrest pathways, pathways invisible to the naked human eye, but not so hard to miss with the sharpness of a feline's.

"I don't doubt that you could defend," he said with a wry little smile, "but I hardly think that I'd need you to." After all, Nyunya was smaller than your average lioness - and Taabu was much bigger than your average lion.

Coming to a stop with her front paws on a large, gnarled tree root, her tail swaying from side to side behind her, she turns her head to look at him. She felt happier today that she had in a long time. Why, precisely, she couldn't say; she just had a vague feeling it was something to do with him. Was that a good thing or bad, though?

"I'm sure you wouldn't, big thing like you." She laughed a little to herself, before asking, "So, are there any fun haunts around here you'd like to show me? A big forest like this surely has them."

Taabu smiled softly as he sauntered after her, his eyes thinking over all the things he could show her, all the different things that occurred around this area. He didn't know of any haunts - aside from little things he had once been scared of as a cub but had figured out as he grew older - like the old owl that used to live in the big willow tree. That had been scary.

That's when he realized something, and a wide smile spread over his maw, a tinkling slowly lighting his eyes - despite the darkness of the forrest around them.

"I don't know of any haunts, not anything that would be scary to anyone but a cub - but I know of something you might like to see, I discovered it as a little cubbin, and it's.. like clockwork every night." He quirked a brow, his tial flickering as he waited for her answer.

She turned around to face him fully, tilting her head curiously at him. What would happen like clockwork in a forest? In all her crawling around the foliage of her home, she'd never noticed anything. Then again, she never usually spent long in a single place, or returned to it often, one it had been explored thoroughly.

"Oh, really?" she asked, sounding as curious as she was. "What is it?"

She hardly thought he'd tell her, but it was worth a shot, right? Padding on pale paws back over to him, she waited for him to move and show her whatever it was he was keeping secret.

Taabu grinned to himself as he took off at a quick little pace into the forrest, weaving delicately in and out of the trees as only an animal could. His body wound down a path barely trodden, even by lions themselves, and soon he brought her up upon a clearing.

In it's center was a small pond - marshy, and not too deep, but with a crystal pool of water none-the-less. Around it stretched beautiful willows, their green fingers hanging from the boughs of great arms, nearly brushing the surface in places. It was dark, and shady, even before the sun ever went down.

"We need only wait a few moments.." he whispered, sitting down upon the shore, as close as he could get before the ground turned into the likeness of spongey, damp moss.

She followed him, winding through the trees with an unconscious elegance and grace one can only get from spending so much time practising at it - which Nyunya had, right from the time she was old enough to walk on her own four paws.

When he stopped, she did, slowly sitting at his side, the salmon fur atop her head brushing his shoulder. She watched the clear pool curiously for a moment, then glanced back up at him - way up, with how small she was in comparison. He wasn't going to tell her what was about to happen, and she had a sneaking suspicion that whatever it was would startle her, much to his amusement.

Frowning minutely at that thought, she turned her attention back to the crystal-clear pool, wondering just what was going to happen in those few moments she had to wait to find out.

Taabu smirked as he felt her eyes on him, amused as he saw the awkward angle of her head from the corner of his eye. It must be hard being that small and spending such an amount of time with someone much larger than you. They would probably always be in such a proportion - for they both had growing to do, and evenly was most likely the best bet on how it would happen. She's always be tiny, and he would always be very large. An odd coupling indeed.

"Just watch," he whispered, not watching the water.. but the willows around it, where they brushed it and such, instead.

Soon, after only a few moments, there came a faint twinkling of light. Fireflies, but in the numbers of hundreds, hundreds of hundreds even! They came out, gentle light flickering, their mirror image splashed beneath them upon the surface of the pool, creating the illusion of even more. He smiled, glancing towards her as the gentle swarm surrounded them.

It almost looked like a dance, the entle and graceful dipping and diving. A dance of faeries, perhaps.

As soon as the merry dancing flicker of light filled the clearing, Nyunya's jaw dropped just slightly. The tiny specks of light reflected in wide crimson eyes, making them sparkle even more as she watched the scene before and around her, before she turned them up to Taabu again.

"I..." She shook her head, for a moment just unable to think of anything to say. "It's... it's beautiful, Taabu. I've never seen anything like it."

Slowly, a tad hesitantly, she let herself lean against him, just a bit. She didn't know why. Something about the mood just made it seem... right to do so. And it was quite comfortable, she found, once she'd done it.

With the pace of her heartbeat picking up just slightly, she watched the fireflies float hypnotically through the trees all around them, not saying another word.

Taabu couldn't say that he had expected her reaction - not the gentle leaning into his body, at least - but he could readily admit to feeling that same tone in the air, that slight romanticism that set the energy aflame. It was, probably, what accounted for his next movement - that gentle nuzzle he placed upon her head.

He honestly found it something.. intimate, but he wouldn't lie and say he didn't enjoy it. It was just the mood of this place, the beauty that nature could create of its own accord.

He smiled then, his voice coming out in a whisper, as if he could scare mother nature away with a tone too loud, "I was hoping you would like it."

She hadn't realised she'd been both expecting and hoping he'd do that until he did it. A few little tense knots in her shoulder unwound, and she let out a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding. With a small smile, Nyunya returned the nuzzle offered her, though with her size, it was against his shoulder.

"I think it's impossible not to like it. It's... just so beautiful." The intimacy of the atmosphere surrounding them now was setting her completely at ease, so much so that she was content to let more of her form lean into her companion, now that affection had been returned to her. Her world wasn't looking bad at all, right now. This would be a moment she'd cherish in her memories, for the peace and content she felt.

Taabu smiled as he felt the returned nuzzle, unaware that he himself had been expecting something similarly affectionate in return. He purred at the feel of it, slowly leaning his chin down to prop on her head - not something that many lions could do to a lioness, but in their case of such a size difference, he was completely capable of such a thing.

The purr lingered there in his throat, his tail slowly unfurling to in turn wrap and entwine around her own. He knew there was something different about this situation, something more intimate than anything he had known - but for now he could not describe it.

"Beauty deserves beauty, Nyunya," he whispered, his eyes half-lulled in thoughts.
