Also, has anyone here done any training in Roman Greco wrestling?

I dunno if you can call it direct Roman Greco, but I train with Erik Paulson about once a week. He calls it "Combat Submission Wrestling". Its basically the bridge between JKD and Roman Greco. Because he is a student of Inosanto's, he often shows how to get into the submission positions along with the various Roman Greco slams that take place, from various traps ans clinch techniques. Good stuff. Very different from BJJ I must add.

all my stories come from Wing Chun I know traditional style as taught by William Cheung if you know any thing about Wing Chun you most likely know of the arguments between the wing chun styles traditonal and modified wing chun I am lucky though my teacher studied modified and then learnd the other and has decided traditonal is better being the way I am I looked for my self and feel there are weaknesses in the modified style but the main weakness of wing chun as a whole is the inability of our masters to get along.

Don't get me started on Aikido myths...

But one thing IS true. Your joints do get wrecked quite easily in aikido. I don't know any of us in aikido that do not complain of joint issues. I think even sensei does but he just doesn't admit it. My own knees are wrecked, and not only as toughened by calluses, but wrecked as in the tendons. The joint locks are deadly.

The trick is to be able to get into a position where you can perform those locks quickly in the flurry of movements.

As for myths, sensei and I had a discussion about this.

Many people think Aikido is a softer martial arts, one that people take if they don't want anything rigourous. That depends on the teacher. There are ALOT of hippies aikido schools all around that really doesn't teach aikido, But given a right sensei you can train very hard in Aikido. I'm usually sweating it out by the first 10 mins and by 15, we've fogged up the windows.

Sorry if this causes offense but the only way you would get joint problems whilst training is your own ineptitude. Anyone, whether training or not, should be taking calcium tablets as bone density weakens gradually from around the age of 17 onwards, taking them will delay (depending on your lifestyle, almost negate) the recession of bone density.

Secondly, any athletic workout should basicly have a warm up that runs like the following:

1. Light cardio work to engage the cardio-respiratory systems and begin the ATP process.
2. Light movements resembling the core of the workout session (if your body building do the reps with a much lighter weight, if your sparring, shadow box etc)
3. Round one of dynamic stretches comprimising movements in all joint ranges, gentle sets of 12 reps the body over
4. Light cardio work, slightly weighted movement to resemble workout session.

Naturally after the body is fully engaged after the above warm up and individual muscle sets are worked up, dynamic stretches can be used to increase movement flexibility.

Every workout should end with a session of static flexibility training to facilitate muscle and joint recovery. Training should always be supplemented with the required rest and diet.

now im smelling bullshido...

anyone who has spent time doing shikko can tell you the only way for it to stop hurting is to do it right, however, the only way to learn how to do it right is to do it wrong for years. And that sucks. I remember one of our sensei, an older and very heavy guy, (after getting out of the hospital from having his arm torn out of the socket and shoved upwards to the bicep level) was doing shikko until his knees started bleeding.

Aiki is hell on the body, and some forms of yoga are the same way. Sometimes the only way to get pure water is by boiling it.

What the ******** is a shikko? Is that like a soy sauce brand?

And what's the "smelling of bullshido"?

How about the myth of a 250lb guy not being able to kick you in the face... The only thing worse then a big guy in a fight is a big guy who is trained and flexible from years of fencing.

Most of the myths that bug me are the ones about swordfighting.

Katanas slicing through other weapons
European longswords being unnecicarily heavy
Armor being unnecicarily heavy and cumbersome

and finally the most annoying myth of all

guns are for cowards who lack the skill to use a blade.

Just because it doesn't take much to pull a trigger doesn't mean firearms are a coward's weapon. Ask any soldier, cop or target shooter that he's unskilled/a coward or weak and see what happens. Shooting is as much a martial art as anything else.

Behave people,

Wolf mate, if you want to try down your weight i'd advise, cutting down on the carbs and increasing your protein intake as well as your fluid intake (water). As well as that spend at least 40 minutes 3 times a week doing light cardio exercis. If you want advise PM me, i'd be more than happy to help.

On a more cheerful note i've got me footage up!
