Despite his disbelief of superstitions, Shane reached up to his cross and gave a silent prayer that they all made it through the wreckage safely. Most of the wood looked rather... un-steady. What exactly was it that they were trying to figure out here? How the damn thing sank?

"Well, shall we just hop in and try and crack this mystery then?" Shane asked.

Estrelas yelped at the word 'crack.' The ocean did look friendly, but... What was down there in those murky depths?

She had rarely been far out in the ocean. Most of the time, she stood, looking about at a calm expanse of blue serenity, dotted by white waves and the cry of seagulls...

But to be inside of the ocean, totally at its mercy, but disturbing to her.

"Don't.... Say... CRACK!" she houghed.

"Err... sorry there love." Shane mumbled. Estrelas, not superstitious? Of course not... It was entirely amusing, but Shane thought it best not to laugh. That would be rude to someone he hadn't quite gotten to know. Still he took one last faltering look at the rotting wood.

He could all be envision himself falling through some bloody plank and getting trapped under the wreckage and drowning. Yes, what a lovely thought... A little morbid maybe? But definitely a possiblity...

There was something bad in there. Maybe the Manager. Maybe someone sent by the Manager. Maybe a monster that would eat them, or something. Anything was possible with the l.o.t.u.s. And, robot though she was, Eponine was definitely vulnerable to a mouth full of pointy teeth.

"Let's go in," she agreed, not believing that those words were coming out of her mouth. Her nails gripped at the mirror in her hand so tightly, a few scratches appeared in the glass. "Estrelas...do you have any more of those trinkets?" Hey, a few superstitious charms wouldn't hurt. The monster might even get distracted by the shininess.

Estrelas nodded, happy that at least someone wasn't considering the loony bin for her. She handed Eponine another one of the iron crosses and a sprig of mistletoe before gazing at the wreckage before her.

"..Is this safe?" she wondered aloud.

"Tis only one way to find out love." Shane replied. Feeling like it should at least be a man who took the first steps, he cautiously stepped out of the boat and onto some of the wreckage. Testing the boards gently with his toe before putting his weight onto it, surprisingly he found the first few boards sturdy enough to hold him.

"Sure, and I've not died yet, so, time to explore right?" He smiled at the two girls and wondered if it would be better to split off into groups maybe? Get the job done faster... as long as Estrelas and Eponine weren't grouped together... and that wasn't only because they were the females...

Wraith began to step out of the boat and called out, "That's a good idea Shane. You go with-"

The words retreated back into his throat as he felt a slim, deadly sliver of metal at his throat. Craning his head very cautiously to see who was trying to kill him, he managed to see a pair of dirty hands attached to an equally dirty young man. With a fancy shirt that was past its prime, boots up to his knees, a bandana tying up his hair, and a sly, toothy smile that made Wraith want to brush his own teeth, Wraith noted with a scary bit of amusement that he had managed to get captured by a pirate.

He was really off the ball today.

"Wraith?" Eponine frowned. "Who does Shane go with?" Although she sensed this was not the prime issue at the moment; why had Wraith stopped? She was too far away to see the pirate at his throat.

"Wraith?" she repeated in an anxious tone, edging forward a few steps. Maybe he'd seen someone? Maybe the someone was the Manager? Maybe -

Estrelas didn't notice that her boss was about to get shimmied up the noggin by a dirty pirate.

She was too busy watching Shane hop onto the wreckage before she noticed that Wraith had not specified who Shane was going with.

"Well?" she demanded, hopping right behind Wraith and slapping his back. "We split up-" She looked beyond him.

"Sah, is this our guide?" she asked, not seeing the insturment of potential doom. "At least he looks.... The.. Part..." she commented dryly. Although farmers were more often than not filthy after a day of work, there was absolutely no excuse for remaining so. "He looks like a pirate," she chirrupped happily, relieved that at least there was someone to show them around.

Shane wondered for a moment if he was the only one who didn't realize that the man was INDEED a pirate, and that yes he was in definite fact holding a blade to Wraith's throat. Feeling the need to educate his partners, he slowly raised his hands into the air. "Eponine, Estrelas, loves... that IS a pirate, so if you both would be dears and show them that you are unarmed, that'd be... a good thing."

Didn't he know!? Wasn't he only thinking that this couldn't just be a normal mission? No, they had to be abducted by bleeding pirates! Now what the ******** were they supposed to do?

Sure, and that explains the wreckage at least. Too bad we may not get back to shore to let the townspeople know. Well... at least it wasn't a ghost, not like I believed that or some such thing...

At Shane's words, Estrelas immediately whipped out an iron cross and held it out at the pirate.

"Begone!" she screamed. "Dissapate! Vanish, evil spirit!" she shouted angrily. It must be a spirit or fairy or something that was haunting the ship. STUPID WRAITH! she thought angrily. Why did he have to be all cocky and REFUSE one of her protection amulets?

She continued waving the cross in front of the pirate, growling. Discreetly, she passed a large mistletoe bough about the half the size of her forearm and twice as thick, to Wraith. At least that might help a little bit.

"GO AWAY!" Estrelas began a protective chant and threw a handful of salt around herself, Eponine, and Wraith. Shane was too far away to reach.

When the pirate didn't disappear, she slowly lowered the cross.

"........................You guys, is he human? And is he on OUR side?"

If the situation hadn't be so dire, Shane would've laughed at Estrelas' display of 'holy' power. Somehow, if they made it out of this situation he'd be forced to tell the tale to Moira... that's if'n they get out of the situation. Shaking his head slightly to ward of a chuckle he schooled his mouth into a steady line.

"Estrelas, lass, that be a human same as you or me. No amount of holy items is gonna have him turning tale dear." The words came out even and calm, but Shane could feel his heart rate thumping. It could be quite possible that the portugese woman was only making the situation worse, unless... she killed the man with laughter or something...

Estrelas lowered her cross.

"Oh... Dear God, I think that he's.. He's.." She flushed and sighed. "I don't believe this!

HE'S A GODDAMN GOBLIN! Take THAT!" Estrelas threw a glass bottle full of the Tail Fur of a Pure White Bloodhound at the Pirate, aiming for his shoulders, where she knew that Portugese goblins were most vunerable.

With that, she held a spring of rosemary protectively in front of Eponine and herself. Wraith would have to get his own herbal garden.

"Mr. Irish Shane, you have any Sage?" she called. "Goblins HATE Sage!"

"On your side? Afraid not, loves."

Flashing them his toothy grin once more, he was amused at the strange woman brandishing all manners of objects at him. Amused, but confused all the same. This man he had in his grasp though, he seemed to be worth his weight in gold. He could even see a gold ring and thin gold chain around the man's neck.

That other, large man, from the Isles by the sound of it, seemed to be the only one who knew what was going on.

His eyes widened as he heard a shout of "goblin!" and saw some sort of bottle come hurtling towards him. Not wanting to let his prisoner get away, but not wanting to get nailed in the head by a woman either, he turned in a strange manner to avoid the bottle. While managing to keep the knife on the man's neck, the pirate was disoriented for a few minutes.

Wraith, now quite awake, saw his chance. While he hadn't taken the green leafy thing from Estrelas a few moments ago, instead looking at her as if she had gone mad (which he quite believed now), he had taken a cross from her before they had left shore. Deftly turning, he smacked the man in the head with the large, holy relic, and as the pirate crumpled to the floor, stunned, Wraith ducked out from beneath his grasp.

Turning the cross over in his hands, he held it out to Estrelas. "I should try being superstitious myself sometime. Never know when it'll come in handy."

Hearing a large, creaking noise, Wraith turned to look behind him. A magnificent mahogany ship approached them, as suddenly as though it had risen out of the water. It white sails fluttered and stretched taut as wind filled them, and a leering skull and crossbones graced the highest mast. It seemed the pirate had not come alone.

Where had they found this one? It could be very possible that Estrelas was the most superstitious woman he'd ever had the pleasure of encountering. Still, her antics seemed to serve a purpose, as the pirate pivoted letting Wraith take action. He watched as the body slumpped the floor.

Lowering his hands, the Irish lad gazed out toward the creaking... great...

"Lad and lasses, if'n we've a mind to not be captured by pirates, I'm going to suggest we find somewhere to run or hide... quickly." Rifling through his belt pouch he came away with his knife. An item he carried with him in most occassions. "You've any bright ideas?"

Glancing toward Estrelas, he could only hope that she realized that these were real people not any form of demon or goblin.
