He snarled softly, caught in an impasse it seemed. And the demon instinctively hated it...with a passion...fear roiling in his heart for the delicate angel. Blue eyes flashed crimson with fury for one long moment.
"You don't have to do this...leave him be." His voice was ever so much calmer than Hayate felt right now. If the other was truly hurt by the monkey...good god...he didn't need this right now...he wouldn't even ask that question...

"I do! I do! You betrayed your brothers! For this fool... for this ... angel. This do-gooder. You practically killed yourself for him... and you betrayed me. Me who had supported your decision to run. You let him kill me... for that, I will kill him and reward you your long overdue punishment Escalestes!!!!" The monkey cried maniacally. He'd gone over the edge or had too many joints or something because he was out of it. So out of it, lightening sparked from his hair and fingers and shivered along Kaya's spine. The knife moved down Kaya's body without touching him yet and then poised above his groin, where the former demon knew it would hurt most. The tail was still choking the life out of him however.
Azikayal was breathing heavily, he wasn't getting any air but he chest rose and fell with an anxious fear. His blind eyes fell back into his head, nearly on the verge of passing out, however as he felt the presence of the knife move downwards over him, he shuddered. "Help..." He croaked. There was so much blood. It was pooling around his feet.

Hayate thought he would die right then, the pain seeming almost physical at the angel's plea. "I am Hayate..." He whispered, "I am Hayate...Escalestes and his sins do not have to be my own, nor shall others pay for them..." And he closed his eyes, knowing what he was about to try was dangerous.
And suddenly...he was one place...and then another...using a magic that was sure to drain himself...simply to -be- there...and having no other methods by which he might stop this tragedy...his fingers closed about that knife, pulling it backwards as blood dripped from his fingers, adding to that of the angel's...for the demon had fallen to his knees...weakened momentarily by what he had done.

Sparx was shocked to say the least, one moment he was there... the next BAM! elsewhere! And the knife gone from his hands, even his lightning magic hadn't been quick enough to burn the demon and letting his tail uncoil, an unconcious angel collapsed to bathe in his blood.
Azikayal was down for the count, air had been cut off, blood had been stolen from where it did not exist. He was physically weak and terrified mentally, sleeping would be the best right now.
However, the monkey was pissed. "Hayate eh? You're a traitor. You will never escape your past Escalestes. And you won't escape me. You'll never escape your best friend..." He cackled yet again, as if on cue.

Hayate moved, so that he was almost on all fours...over the angel protectively whilst he glared balefully at their attacker. "I might never escape my past...but you shall not escape it either...indeed, you have let it consume you...and make you something other than what you were..." He spoke without thinking...the words seeming to leave his lips of their own accord. Perhaps it was not the Demon Hayate...that spoke then, but his former self. "in fact, the more I know of those past eons...the more I wish to reclaim some of what was lost..."

"I'll tell you... you forgot me and everything. It seems." He quieted down, waiting, causing a rise for a climax that might not come. "You were the demon Escalestes, of Hell... my best friend. If demons could be called that..." His tail circled back and forth making sweeping motions on the floor as he slowly circled the bloody duo. "You left me... you up and left and He was furious. When he caught you with Lafiyal, he sent me to kill you. And heartlessly you slashed me where you knew I was weakest! You had sold me out for an angel! A GOD DAMN ******** ANGEL!" Sparx yelled, practically spitting on Hayate. Taking a deep breath, he continued. "Then... I do not know... but before my disappearance to eternity ... I remember being told Lafiyal commit suicide and then you died too. I remember smiling and begging Him for my revenge. And look... he granted my wish. You are meant to die."

This did not seem to sink in for a moment, before the demon did nothing more than nod, as if deigning the other was below his acknowledgement. "Meant to die?" He laughed softly, and the sound was harsh...bitter. "No one is -meant- to die...only driven so by circumstance and the cruelty of others." His eyes had never once left their agile attacker. The demon did not dare to gather Kaya up in his arms as he wished to, for he wanted his hands free in case of another attack...

Sparx, former demon, current lightning monkey, shuddered. That voice was hideous, it was decrepid and rancid to his delicate ears. (Yea, the cursee has delicate ears, go figure.) His eye twitched slightly, and sparks lit around his feet, swirling around and up his bond in voltage spikes and ribbons. He was pissed, "...I... hate you."
Kaya coughed at that moment, and before Sparx could attack, he waved his hand and created a shield of light. A barrier, so to speak. Coughing more, and opening his sightless eyes he looked up at Hayate. A smile crossed his lips.

Hayate's gaze moved from one to the other, and finally, he too smiled at Kaya, "Ne...don't strain yourself..." He whispered, "You know I won't let him win..." He wouldn't let him hurt this angel any more than he already had, even if it was at the demon's expense.
He was fairly sure, at any rate, that he could use his own magic in such a way that the angel's shield would be reinforced.

"Do not fight out of anger... like he fights..," coughed Kaya, "And you can win..." Azikayal was certainly fairly dizzy, but his alert second sight woke him up in time to shield from a possibly fatal attack. However, Kaya could no longer move and his hand fell limp and the smile faded, he had passed out again.
It was odd to think that this angel had once been so powerful that he had been one of God's direct messengers. A special soul to release happiness and joy and all of the above... and now... he was nothing. The curse drained him like water from a sink.. he wasn't allowed to die. No one wanted him anywhere and Limbo was filled.
The monkey growled at the shield and tried viciously sparking it with lightning bolts. His most powerful attack had been dodged and evaded and he wouldn't stand for it. Suddenly he found a weak point as Kaya passed out and he darted towards Hayate, screaming.

He nodded, taking the other's words to heart, though his eyes widened in slight alarm as the fragile angel passed out on him again. Hell...this was not at all good.
But now he knew something...he was the strong one...and it was somehow his duty to protect Kaya...and he'd do it. This time he'd make sure things turned out right, if indeed what the monkey said had been at all true. No...no...no one was going to feel that same pain again.
And he met his attacker's charge, his hands outstretched and glowing with pale blue fire....his own power. But he was soundless...not allowing his emotions to fuel this attack, save perhaps, determination.

His face paling, the monkey was tossed backwards. He hadn't been prepared for Hayate to be so strong. Gliding easily backwards he flew off the buildings edge, and with a smirk waved goodbye. And then he was gone, with a spark of lightning trailing his exit.

Now Hayate could go to Kaya...now he could gather the angel up in his arms...carefully, as though he might break...he looked delicate enough to, like a porcelain doll, bloodstained and torn by too rough an owner.
"You saved me, you know..." He murmured, picking the smaller being up and standing straight.

Azikayal stirred from the movement, and with a light moan he spoke softly, "And you saved me." However much the angel wanted to, it was better if he didn't open his eyes. He was so weak, speaking was a problem. Blood still fell to add to the pool of it on the rooftop. It was disconcerting to see someone so kind and yet so fragile look as weak as he was. It was also pathetic, but also so very pretty.
Kaya's face looked so peaceful he could pass for dead. His blind eyes opened to 'look' in the direction of Hayate's face. "I... am sorry... again I find myself injured in your arms..."

The demon shook his head, "The only thing you have to be sorry for is that you didn't take better care of yourself..." A gentle chide, not really a scold...he couldn't imagine getting upset with Kaya.
A long sigh escaped him, it was thoughtful, not sad. "Do you have a place to go?" He asked quietly, tilting head to one side. When he had knelt to pick the angel up, the ends of his hair had trailed in that blood, tainting it with a rosy hue.
"And there are far worse things to happen than finding you in my arms..." Perhaps that statement was not meant the way it came out, but...still.
