It's a gateway drug. So even though the drug itself is pretty harmless.. it often leads to things that are dangerous.

I've seen to many people who have taken drugs and done nothing with their lives to give me a postive view on drugs for re-creation.

from what i hear, it's less dangerous than alchohol. as long as it's against the law to smoke and drive, then i'm fine with it.
the amount of people arrested for smoking and driving is more than drinking and driving already, anyways, so it wouldn't make much of a difference.
and plus, then the guys living across the hall from me (in my apartment) wouldn't have to be secretive about selling their pot anymore. bleh. smells so gross.

if ever i smoke weed, it helps with my constant physical pain first and foremost.
some people need it for that.
and i don't remember where i read it, but the Canadian government did a 30 year study on the effects of marijuana and found very interestingly that smoking to a certain extent doesn't harm the body, can help with depression and other physical and mental issues, and actually has a healthy limit. unlike tobacco, which isn't in any way ever good for you.
if it were legalized, the legal system maintaining it should stay the same. meaning you need to have a medical condition, either physical or mental, with doctor's permission and prescription, to obtain marijuana.
then every state would be a 'green' state. that would be cool. then drug busts finding thousand of dollars in weed would stop. they'd probably only find a few hundred at a time.

I stand with Generic Debate Standing #0276b: If Marijuana is legalized, then it will bring more money into the economy, it will be safer, and can be used generally to help people.
I smoke pot. I don't feel the need to smoke it every day. Every once in a while, I'll buy some, or if I'm with some friends who have some, we'll smoke a joint. But if I run out of money temporarily, or my friends go away...somewhere...then I won't go into a seizure-iffic withdrawl stage. I'll just get on with my life.
As for the "Gateway" drug thing, well, I think that there's a age limit put on it, let's say 19 like it is for cigarettes, then by 19 you should have enough self-control that you won't go alluvasudden "THIS SEEMS COOL. CRACK SEEMS COOLER."
And frankly, think back to Prohibition. Way back then, when Alcohol was banned, people were getting arrested, people were getting tainted beer...pretty similar to our world right now. Clear all that up by legalizing it, and you can produce it (in pot's case, grow it) in a safe and clean environment, and let it be taxed for the Govt.'s benefit.
After a while, just like Alcohol and Cigarettes aren't technically considered "Drugs" by modern society, Pot will just become part of life. Just like you don't consider Alcohol a gateway drug, Pot will just become "another one of those things you gotta be 19 for, up there with cigs and [legal] porn".
In closing, w00t, 4:20.

I'll put it simply like this and this is my actual feeling about it: If it gets legalized, everything will go down the tubes and the cancer rates will double. I'd want no part of it.

I also think cocaine, heroine, opium, amphetamines, anabolic steroids, LSD, and all that other nasty s**t should be legal. I don't recommend any of the above to anyone, but I live in America, the land of the free, and I believe if you want to ******** up your body, your mind, and your life, you have the right to choose. Tobacco can kill you, and it's legal. Alcohol can kill you, and it's legal. Even caffeine can kill you.

My question is: Why do people want it so badly? Because it's addicting, right? Even if it's harmless, and you somehow manage to avoid other drugs, it forces you to want more. Do you know how many people live on the streets because they spend all of their money on drugs?
