I started playing right after the last patch came out, so I couldn't tell you about that one. But with the new patch that came out a couple days ago, they combined servers in qeues for battlegrounds. So it's really easy to get into Warsong Gulch and stuff.

I think it's great because my main server is low population. Before, it would take at least 2 and a half hours to get into a battleground.

to get in and play with your friends anymore. Join as a group and you're guaranteed to be in the same room as your group members. And Kyle, Burning Crusade won't hit for a few more months. It's currently in Alpha testing. 1.12 mainly added a new dungeon and re-vamped the Rogue talent trees.

Nope. That's all coming in Burning Crusade, the upcoming expansion. Expect a Christmas release for that.
They've released the new spells and talents for most classes though. I expect a lot more "nerf warlocks" threads on the forums once we get to Soul Link with a Felguard AND get Seed of Corruption.

Holy crap. Fire Mages are getting an AoE Scattershot, and Frost Mages are getting a Voidwalker--or rather, Water Elemental.
Shame I'll still be kicking the s**t out of Frost Mages. I can Banish elementals and counterspell the casters.
Mages are getting Invisibility again too. Finally, a reason to cast Detect Invisibility that isn't to protect the important buffs from Dispelling.
Ice Lance, Arcane Blast and Spellsteal are all really nice, though.
