Chuck Palahniuk - Anything by him but you might know his movie Fight Club
Thomas Harris - Hannibal
Richard Laymon - The Traveling Vampire show
Steven King - The Dark Tower Series
And as far as Tolkien is concerned (I know I'll get flamed for this but I don't care!) he is dead and over rated. His work is mediocre at best.

Ok I think I've been lurking in the guild long enough, and this I feel is the best place to first make my voice heard. You can learn a bit about a person form the books they read.
I have so many authors I love to read.
My first love is Dean R Koontz and his book Watchers (the ending is a rollercoaster of emotions NEVER watch the film)
Second Love has to be Anne Rice though to choose a favourite book would be difficult.
Third Love is Laurell Hamilton the Anita Blake series only gets better with each book!!!
These three authors really have influenced the way I write and the things I write about. (When I get time I will post my favourite short story)

my fav author is Christopher Pike! I love the books; The Immortal, Remember Me 1 & 2, The eternal Enemy, Witch, Whisper of Death, Wicked Heart, and the series The Last Vampire. With Him it's so hard to pick just 1 favorite book- but you'll never find any other book thats writing is more emotional, or beautiful, well atleast to me. I'm not used to crying at anything, but these books pulled the tears out of me! But also keep in mind that they are still horror books.
My second favourite is Karleen Bradford's Thirteenth Child. It was pretty cool, too.

My idols are H.P. Lovecraft, Douglass Coupland, Stephen King, and Kafka.
I want to be as freaky as Lovecraft, as profound as Coupland, as bestselling as King, and remembered forever like Kafka. whee

Stephen King is definately one of my idles, he had the most awful disgusting jobs before he made it big, but now as long as it has his name on it anything he writes is a best seller.
Douglas Adams is just my idle plan and simple. i just can't put into words how much i like him, but then again i guess that probly means i'm not good with words...i'll have to work on that.

Stephen Donaldson, Peter Carey(esp BLISS), JV Jones- only the series with Raif Severance (she really improved outta sight ) and Rushdi are runners up. My all time number one idol is a poet- Seamus Heaney- his command of language is breathtaking. I think his work is like novel-writing, distilled. He gets in 4 lines what most people take a page to convey.

Hmm... My favorite authors are probably Anne McCaffrey and Piers Anthony, but I can't quite pick out my favorite books of theirs... maybe Dragonsong or Dragonquest of McCaffrey's, and Roc and a Hard Place by Anthony. Also really like the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy by... erm. by that one guy. eek sweatdrop I've read a ton of books in which I didn't read any others by that same author, though, and some of those inspired me to write. sweatdrop
I have difficulty reading books that aren't fantasy or sci-fi, however, unless someone picks it out for me, so I'm probably missing out on a lot of good books. sweatdrop

My favorite authors are Oscar Wilde and Jodi Picoult. Oscar Wilde is, in my opinion, one of the greatest geniuses in literature. He writes everything, from prose to poetry to essays, and all of it is superb. Jodi Picoult is the author of my current favorite book, which leads me to the next thing. My favorite book is My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. It is a very controversial, heart-wrenching and realistic book with an ending that made me cry harder than any other book has ever made me cry.

I think my author (yes, he's mine, all MINE... sad I wish) is a little unheard of... Jack Whyte. He wrote the Camulod series and I fell in love with it right away. <3 I love his style. And I love King Arthur... and when the two come together it's quite orgasmic.
And second would have to be James Clavell. Favorite book of his: ShÅgun.

My idol author would have to be Taora Pierce, the writer of "the immortals", "Song Of The Lioness", "Protecter Of The Small", "Tricksters Choice", and "The circle of Magic". She was the one that inspired me to start writting. I LOVE her stories, her characters are all female so it has a lot to do wth "girl power" you could say. Their all about magic and I can sorta refer to the characters.

My idol, in the writing world would have to be Daniel Silva. All of his novels are excellent but the three that stand out the most in my mind are
The Kill Artist The English Assassin A Death In Vienna
More commonly known as the Gabriel Allon series. I just love the way he is able to mix mystery, suspense, action and romance all into one amazing story. I finished all three within a week, I could not put them down!

Tanya Huff, or Robert Jordan...
Huff because her books were so clear and easy to read, and they were never boring. There was always something in the chapters to pull you along to the next one. Her small series about bards (Starting with Sing the Four Quarters) is one that I bought so that I could always turn back to them. I don't buy books very often. i usually just borrow them from my friends or what not...
And Robert Jordan for his popularity and his own worship of Tolkien. He tried to expand upon the universe that Tolkien started...
