If you do that it's called disruption and it's rude and irresponsible. Do you see anti-war students standing on desks and shouting and giving speeches? None that I know of or have heard of. Anti-war people are out there and speaking and everything. Activism works. Annoying people doesn't.

Yep, done a real bang-up job on that one... rolleyes

And you're doing nothing but spamming. Are you actually going to say something or just be rude and spam the thread?

Who said I was wanting a cookie or anything of the sort? rolleyes So since you listed all you're doing do you want a cookie or a certificate? And yes we all pick our battles. Now instead of standing in the street and protesting the war I'm going to do what I can and doing activism to change the course of this country and get justice for all the wrong that has happened in this country. I don't see how a piece of red tape is going to do anything either. I still suggest the Jimmy Carter route.
You spout off about all this ambiguous "activism" in which you're partaking as if you're the newly appointed saint of civil disobedience and everyone else is just sitting on their bum twiddling their thumbs.

Frankly, it's irritating.

My point was that just because a person isn't involved in anti-war activism doesn't mean that their cause is useless. There are evils in this world worth fighting beyond the United States' ridiculous "war on terror."

The anti-war movement is not the only worthy cause. If someone would rather protest abortion than war, they have every right to do so. Yes, I agree that the Day of Silence is a stupid way of protesting, but it doesn't make their cause any less valid than your anti-war stuff, so stop going on like your cause is the only one worth fighting for.

Am I going to have to move this thread to the debate forum?

No you're putting words in my mouth. A lot of people who claim they are pro-life turn around and support Iraq and/or Afghainstan and the slaughtering of innocent people including babies and children. So sometimes people only care about the fetuses and not the actual children.

haha. By the way, your appeal to emotion just doesn't work, because I know that 'babies and children' aren't being 'slaughtered'. Are kids dying? Yeah, though, I must point out, more are dying at the hands of the terrorists, than at the hands of the US. In fact, I can only think of a few, isolated cases (well, one actually, but I'm to much of a cynic to believe that it's only happened once) where US soldiers went out of their way to attack civilians. And those guys were court-martialed.

Are you serious? Did you not learn ANYTHING from Vietnam? I suggest you take off your rose colored glasses and wake up to reality. That's propoganda you're repeating and it doesn't do anybody any good to close your eyes and go "la la la la la."

No, spam is useless, incessant chatter or the like. I was making a sarcastic comment about how well your supposed 'activism' works.

And that socalled comment of yours was useless and incessant chatter. So much for that. And gee I guess you haven't seen the latest polls. Oh and psst John Kerry did win in 2004. On edit democrats are winning in places they haven't won in forever. For example here about a month or two ago a democrat won the sheriff race for the first time in TWELVE YEARS the republican incumbant (who was quite popular) lost. In the beginning it seemed hopeless but the democrat won by two percent. Not a huge victory but still a victory none the less.

Oh there you go again with putting words in my mouth! Boy people here on Gaia surely have a problem with that. Now I didn't go and put words in your mouth so I would appreciate the same respect or is that too hard for you to do? Now what is it going to do by being quiet for a whole day and putting a piece of tape on your mouth? It's not going to do anything excpet perhaps have people look at you weird and if they ask you about what's going on you can't talk about it because then you'll ruin the whole thing. My whole point is there are other ways to get rid of abortion besides stupid things and trying to get rid of laws that protect women. Why would you vote for someone who in the past has bankrupted every company they've ever owned or co-owned or had no clue how to run a budget of some sort? That's irresponsible and doesn't do anything. Look at the abortion rates from 1992-2000 and then from 2001 to now. Abortion was THE LOWEST EVER during President Clinton's reign. Why? As James Carville would say: it's the economy stupid. And please in the future don't put words in my mouth. Thank you.

When you take such a self-righteous tone, it's difficult to not "put words in your mouth."

I think you'll find that if you're less hostile, people will not misinterpret your posts.

Which is exactly what I have been trying to say, but you were too absorbed in going on your little anti-war rant to comment on that aspect of my posts, apparently.

Don't ask me. I'm French. I take no responsibility for Bush getting elected.

Thank you.

Okay, so my last question was largely rhetorical. Sorry, but I'm afraid this can't stay on the main page. On the plus side, now I can get myself involved in the debate guilt-free.

And you know how my tone is how now? Oh right. You don't. It's an internet message board so I would still appreciate it if you show me some type of respect and NOT put words in my mouth just like I kindly do not do it to you. I don't think you would like it if I go around and say things you did not say. Would you like it? And in the future please don't tell me what to say and not to say. I don't go around and boss you about what to say so show some type of maturity.

You know... I was going to shut up. Since I didn't want this thread moved, but, you know, that's already going to happen...

Now, onto your regularly scheduled post.

In this war, honey.

Oh, and ad hominems do nothing but tempt me to respond in kind. Stop using them.

I suggest you learn from history before you talk about the present and/or future. It might do you some good there. Just some advice. Oh and Iraq isn't a war. It's an illegal slaughter of innocent people who did nothing to you.

And that socalled comment of yours was useless and incessant chatter. So much for that.

It was about as much on-topic and relavent to the current discussion as your anti-war fanaticism was to abortion, but, you know, since when have we ever let decency stop us? (Oh, on that subject, sorry to the thread creator helping to ruin this thread. I really did intent for this subject to get any larger than... well, the 10 or so posts already made...)

Quote:

Oh, don't get to proud of yourself. Bush has managed to commit political suicide just fine without your 'activism'. If anything, that just annoys people.

Quote:

You really can't stay on topic, can you? Anywho, no, kerry did not win the elections. I don't care whether or not he got the popular vote, and I don't care whether or not he won florida. Neither are the ways one wins an election. Bush got more electoral votes, and that's all that matters.

Congratulations? Do you want a cookie?

Obviously you missed my point. It's hypocritical when so many people who claim to be "pro-life" then turn around and are the biggest "war" or war cheerleaders. Of course they also don't fight it themselves but they want other people to go and fight their own wars or "wars" and they don't listen to anybody actually involved (such as the generals who spoke out recently and other anti-war soldiers who have been there such as the Iraq Veterans against the War group). It's hypocritical to claim to be for life and then want to kill people and especially to kill people who did nothing to you. That is my whole point of bringing up war or "war." Please read what people say. Who said anything about Florida? He won both Florida and Ohio and according to the rules thus the EC of course Bush is a thief a long with being a murder and torturer. And yet he claims the name of the Prince of Peace. How sad. And hon if you're going to do your "cookie" crap why should I take you seriously? Please be mature. But that's obviously too hard. Perhaps you should be the one who gets the cookies since you are acting like you're still in kindergarden.
