Hylonomus What pisses me off about this show is that they act like the asian martial arts are the best in the world. For the Bo, they forget about European Quarter Staff. For the Kali, they forget about the Irish Bata. For the Katana, they forget about the countless superior European swords. For the Archery, they forget about the English longbowman. For the Ninja, they forget about the countless assassins that were used throughout history. I'm sick of the "Asian = Best" stereotype in martial arts. I would love to see them do a segment on how effortlessly an epee can sink into human flesh, and how quickly it can punch a fatal wound through several vital organs in a lightning-fast lunge. As soon as they said Ninja, FAKE came to mind. It was ******** Koga Ryu too. AND WHAT THE ******** WAS UP WITH LETTING THE TKD TAKE THE KATANA? WHY THE HELL WOULD THEY PASS UP USING THE GUY FROM THE TEENAGE NINJA TURTLES?

I had some problems with the weapon stuff. Yes a Katana cuts well due to the push pull cut sabers and othe curved blades such as Talwars and Shamshir are just as good. That Dao Chinese broad sword can cot arms and legs off I was not real happy with the Wu Shu guy. He didn't step into his punch and barly swung that sword.
I wish they would have picked a few Chinese styles rather than just one guy who works on many. I would have loved to se a Wing Chun person Hung Gar and a Shaolin monk would have been great.
Mostly I would want a skilled Wing Chun guy the power of Wing Chuns punches is something many argue about and it is widely believed we don't do kicks. I would like to see people show that our punches are just as good as any other martial art and that our kicks are also just as powerful.

Hylonomus For the Kali, they forget about the Irish Bata. All I can say to this is: PUTANGINAMO and EIRE GO BRACH!(or Erin Go Bragh, for those who are used to the badly Anglicized version).

but the Kali is a Fillipine weapon isn't Fillipino's more latin-ish than asian, I mean yeah they may just be a bit south of Japan and be in the "asia" continent but still Fillipino's aren't actually (from what I think please don't pound me with angry corrections if I'm incorrect) what you'd think of like samurai or Ninja, right?

If that were true, then you could say the Viets are Frenchy because France had control over Viet Nam for over 100 years. Now the true question is, are Filipinos Asian or are they Pacific Islanders...many consider themselves Asian, while others will rip your head off if you call them Asian.

what i want to know is, when did people start thinking about martial arts as a strickly oriental thing? you cant hardly turn around without seeing an oriental martial art school. and the few classes you can find other than maybe boxing are so watered down, and sports oriented that there's really no point in taking them. european nations did have various fighting systems, so what happend to them?

Hey, I'm not saying that Flips aren't Asian, just that some don't like to be reffered to as such. Its a debate that's been going on between Flips for a while. Personally, I think they should be considered Asian seeing as how the Japs are on a Pacific island yet still call themselves Asian. I believe, however, that kali warriors and spanish conquistadors did influence eachother's weapons styles(i.e. kali borrowed from fencing styles and vice versa). Don't set this in stone, though. I'm just repeating something I read from another Gaian.

well, it's kind of the nerds of America's fault for opening up all those "ninja" schools and stuff to get money off ppl so basically thats just called marketing technique to get ppl to watch the show if it was all about these european weapons no one would watch it really then they'd lose alot of money and wouldn't gain alot of money either

I do feel some schools have a link to the old ninja ways but I realy dout many cared to keep alive those ways after the Meiji restoration. Most of the ninja I have heard of joined up as military or police and I am sure a few taught what they knew but I dout they told people who or what they were before. That knowledge dose not simply go away unless no one teaches it and the way these people are I bet they taught their family and friends at the very least. Ninjas are dead what people are teaching is the remains of what we call Ninjutsu. Most if not all the things ninja could do can be reproduced in some way so realy it's no big deal. So ninjas knew how to hide find some books on camouflage and stuff. Poison there are a lot of books that talk about plants and things that are deadly. Smoke bombs I have a recipe x. Blinding powder well thats easy too get some Coal grind it up throw in some chili powder may be some metal filings and you got some bad powder. Like fire put rust filings with Aluminum filings and you got Thermite burns hotter than hell x .

Wolf3001 I do feel some schools have a link to the old ninja ways but I realy dout many cared to keep alive those ways after the Meiji restoration. Blinding powder well thats easy too get some Coal grind it up throw in some chili powder may be some metal filings and you got some bad powder. Like fire put rust filings with Aluminum filings and you got Thermite burns hotter than hellx . it is true that there arent ninja still moving around everywhere now. but to say ninjutsu is totally lost is somewhat extreme. true its not tought the same way and the techniques are slightly adapted but "ninja" means the way of endurance. its more of a way of life than a group of techniques. its very historical and psycological. yes you can learn to hide ect. but that was common in a lot of cultures. america was one of the first (european) civilization to use gurrilla warefare. they hid behind trees and used ambushes. but that doesnt make them ninja. the romans and egyptians were notorius for poisoning people. but that also doesnt make them ninja. so to say " So ninjas knew how to hide find some books on camouflage and stuff. Poison there are a lot of books that talk about plants and things that are deadly" is very stereotypical.

you have a point, but a lot of the schools that teach "ninjitsu" are really just mixing in a little of the mith to boost their number of students. it my be steriotypical because the # of places that teach real ninjitsu are few and far between, and the number of schools and books that just teach techniques can be found on every street corner.
