Longer thoughts to come, but:
Spoilers:
The bolt-on relatives were sparingly used and actually proved to have a couple of brain cells to rub together when they were on-screen. I can cope with that, if they keep it up.
Since it's such a major piece of continuity, I was expecting the whole "Mr. Saxon" plot to kick in far later than it seems to, and be saved for the finale like "Torchwood" was last season. Between that and Captain Jack apparently not only being in the last episode after all, I'm definitely looking forward to what's going to happen from next week onwards. smile

Well, from the week after next, as Eurovision has delayed things (mutter)
But yes- since this is a running plot that has apprantly been planned from the beginning, I'm not surprised they chose to introduce it slightly earlier.
And the fans have known that Jack's in the last 3 episodes for quite some time smile (Spoilage ends)

Spoiler:I'm torn. I want to know what's up with Jack, but I don't want to see a mutilated version of Human Nature. Darn them for keeping me interested while trampling on my memories...
Trouble is, my interest in this particular series is seriously waning. It's almost got to the stage that Torchwood was at, in that I almost invariably hated each episode, but kept on watching anyhow.End spoiler.

I'd still rather have the current series than the last one so far.

Xagarath Ankor I agree entirely with that last one smile If this season keeps up as-is, I may even buy the DVDs (along with the Eccleston season when the price goes down a bit further) - but I'm fully prepared to leave a gaping hole in my "New Who" collection where The Amazing and Romantical Misadventures of Rosie-Sue Tyler and Some Bloke or Other With a 'Phone Box is concerned.

I did buy both boxsets so far myself, but Season 2 is definitely looking the weakest of the three. Nontheless, I am happy to own it for Anthony Stewart Head, Clockwork Robots, Sarah-Jane and the Beast in the Pit. It's just a pity that the season then resorted to such things as ripping-off Paperhouse (Which is, by the way, a fascinating little film).

Not for me. Perhaps I'm getting cynical and what have you, but I'm not currently loving season 3. Season 2 I enjoyed, even with Rose. But if there's one thing more annoying than Rose, it's the Doctor going on about her and being all soulful and mournful. Pull yourself together, man! She's gone, along with about a million other companions you allowed to hang on your coat-tails. Get over it.
Survival, on the other hand, was a joy to watch. The acting wasn't too bad, the effects weren't bad considering; and I finally got to see what Perivale looks like. Plus there are outtakes with the Doctor failing spectacularly to get on a horse and with Ace stepping on the Doctor's foot with those Doc Marten clodhoppers of hers. Magic!
Not to mention one can get all nostalgic and, indeed, soulful & mournful over the final lines in the episode (for those as don't know, check my sig).

The uncharacteristic pining over the gobby chav was the major minus point for me, too - but since we didn't actually get a mention of her in the last episode, I'm crossing my fingers that - other than Jack wondering where she is and having to deal with that whole "Bad Wolf" mess she got him into - we might actually be over the worst of it.
I swear I'm expecting to find out any day now that RTD's still trying to cling to the idea of Rose Tyler: Earth Defence.

In all fairness, there's a pretty big Rose fanbase, and they'd be up in arms without at least some pining. Hopefully it's over now.

A propos of not very much, in the extras on "Survival", Sylvester McCoy comments that Scots in general must have been terribly disappointed that David Tennant didn't use his natural accent.
To which I would respond "not just the Scots" smile
I was also particularly amused by the out-takes where Sophie Aldred managed to sneeze on Sylvester McCoy and later on stand on his foot in her DMs. Classic smile
Xag: you say you have the boxsets of the new stuff. What are the extras like? Do we get out-takes? I've seen a Youtube of Cybermen in the park near BBC Television Centre, which is quite amusing.
I'm still waiting for them to cost a fair bit less than £45 before I shell out. In the meantime, recorded off the TV will have to do for me.
A post of not much substance here, but I'm killing time until Saturday when I could have more to say. But if it's the episode I think it is, prepare for potential rantage smile

The extras are mainly commentaries, video diaries and cut-dwon versions of Confidential. which adds up to rather a lot. I think there might be outtakes, but I must confess to not having looked yet.
