s**t xd I only am online late at night, & my mind is slowing down. This keeps me from understanding this kind of "deep" debate. My head is spinning!!!! rofl But, the only word of advice is, that being smart only can be judged be ones self, such as "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". This leads me to my point, intelegance is only a way of summing up the ammount that one puts into a specific sstate of mind. What i mean by a specific state of mind is, that we only can judge on the single plain of existance that our intelegence exists on! So overall intelegance is irevelant to levels, only intelegance on one plain of existance can be judged by its inhabitents.

...what?

My word. I only am online late at night and my mind is slowing down which keeps me from understanding this kind of 'deep' debate. My head is spinning! rofl But, the only word of advice I can offer is that being smart only can be judged by one's self, similar to that cliche "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". This leads me to my point, that intelligence is only a way of summing up what one puts into a specific state of mind [this makes no sense -ed]. What I mean by a specific state of mind is that we only can judge on the single plane of existence that our intelligence exists on!
  • Thus, overall intelligence is irrevelant to levels, only intelligence on one plain of existence can be judged by its inhabitants.

  • Editing for english and (my) style. Please remember that it's intelligence, not intelegance. You made that mistake throughout, leading me to believe that it was not a simple typo, but rather not knowing how to spell "intelligence".

*This is a point I feel could use a better explanation.
As I understand it, you say that each person has an intelligence that operates differently to that of everyone else, and you feel that no one is qualified to understand the intelligence of someone else, as they have no way of understanding how it works beyond a limited sense.
I would ditch the whole "plane of existance" thing, and instead just stick with "everyone is unique, thus one cannot accurately generalise across a series of unique constructs in any reasonable manner.
While one can generalise across different triangles say (sides add up to 180°), it is rather more difficult to generalise across the entire range of any possible shape.

But I really don't know where I'm going with this.

*edit*Just for the record, I consider myself a catatonic hamster when it comes to intelligence.*

I would say that this is a more a result of circumstance rather than inate ability, but then, I've always been told that I'm too modest.

Someone once said that a true sign of modesty is to never admit to it.

Now then, to answer the "quetion" - there is no answer. This is what happens when misguided scientists try to answer social-science or philosophical questions. The world isn't numerical, not everything is quantitative. The fact that someone tried to sort of approximate some measure of intelligence with an IQ scale is hardly proof or even any sort of convincing evidence that there is a quantitative measure of intelligence that is valid in any way. Overwhelming evidence points to the contrary.

You can't just throw an ordering on to any human trait you want. Even a trait like "bigger" can't be objectively measured - do you mean higher BMI? Maybe taller? Perhaps more mass? Why do you think "smarter" can? The assumption that any scale is somehow neutral or all-revealing is not just naive, it's completely absurd.

I chose 'catatonic hamster' because it made me laugh.

I grew up under the shadow of a science museum in America so I've always been fascinated by science. Don't know if you'd attribue it to higher intelligence though. *plays more 'big brain academy'*

What's often described as intelligence can more often be better stated as "focus", "determination", etc. Often, the willpower to learn is simply a much larger factor in learning than any possible natural ability. This becomes especially marked in higher education.

Always a good place to be. i'm there to.
I am smarter than the average man (when it comes to maths), but in my Maths classes my marks are about average.

But there is hope for me yet! My maths professor said so! I could turn out to be a brilliant researcher or something like that!

I consider myself fairly intelligent but at the same time I know that I know so little that I consider myself stupid. Its an odd feeling to have.

I don't think it is that odd. If you make above average progression in a field of study you become more exposed to the flaws and missing bits of information. There is also the need to specialise to a degree so you should always be aware of all the subjects that you cannot specialise in as deeply because there is just not enough time in the world.

I dunno. Some people say I'm pretty bright, but I always feel kinda dumb. I try to make up for it by working my a** off.

I am slightly above average, because average keeps changing and no one is for sure what average is any more. Maybe the aveage knowlege will lower so I look more like a genius. But I would still say I am not a genius.

Is this where we come to brag about our over-inflated egos?

Or try to wow people with our humbleness?

Or do we just lie about how smart we are, always making sure to top the person before us?

This would be nice to know before I know if I'm to think this topic is a waste of time or if it's a waste of time.

Personally, I don't give a damn about my own intelligence. People have done better than me and I've done better than them.

People who act overly modest while CLEARLY knowing that they appear smart, however, immensely grate against my nerves.

Intelligence is something a number can't explain all at once.

I also almost mixed up mouthwash and Gatorade today.

    Classic.

    Methinks I has an I.Q. of 150.

Intelligence? How intelligent am I? Compared to a simple amoeba I must say that I am far more intelligent, even at the level of deities or so compared to a simple amoeba.

Intelligence? How intelligent am I? Compared to an alien being or a proposed god, or god-like figure, I must admit that I know very little compared to such a figure. I also have no knowledge of how woman work, just most of the physical aspects. I as well have no clue about 99.9999999% of the universe.

Intelligence? How intelligent am I? Most of what I've learned is through connecting the dots and by what other people have told me. So in reality, if I was left in a state unchecked by other humans, my intelligence would be close to nothing.

Intelligence? How intelligent am I? All things are relative. Thus I can only speak about how good I am at anything by comparative nature. Considering all the versions of intelligence, and all the things there are to know in this universe... I must say I know very little.

Just more than you. (Jk) blaugh
