Heh. I've read almost ninety percent of all the books mentioned. biggrin
There are many books that I would suggest, but at the moment all I can say is:
Joseph Heller: Catch 22 ((Kalile Alako))
Seriously, if you are American, you have a sacred duty to read this book. It is a cultural reference, and frighteningly accurate. I also find it extremely funny, horrifying and disturbing.

I got a few that I'm surpirsed weren't listed:
The Following are all by Brian Jacques (Pronounced Jakes)
Redwall Mossflower Mattiemo Mariel of Redwall Salamandastron Martin The Warrior The Bellmaker Outcasts of Redwall The Pearls of Lutra The Long Patrol Marlfox Ledgend of Luke Lord Brocktree The Taggerung Triss Loamhedge Rakkety Tam
Books by Ameila Atwater Rhodes

Welp thats all my suggestions for the time being, all of Ameila's are rather short and Brian's are all about 400 or so pages.

Kalile Alako Heh. My sister had to read the book as a class assignment, she told me about it and it did sound interesting. That's on my to-do list.

I feel so smart. I just realized that there was a 'guilds' button in my profile...now I can find all my guilds again! I only wonder why I didn't see it before.
I'd like to recommend:
Rushdie, Salman: Midnight's Children ((Rieluni)) Llosa, Mario Vargas: The Storyteller ((Rieluni))
I was going to write these little review thingies below these books, but then I realized that I might get repetitive. XD So yersh.
Oh, and for ye Japan-obsessed people--I know that there are a lot of you out in Gaia, and whereas those who actually SEE this list probably know a bit more about Japan than the stuff you learn from anime, these books may still help you learn more about classical Japan. Although they may not always be the most interesting of books, and one in particular led to many weeks of hysterical head-offing-laughing amongst me and my friends. Since there are many translations, and--to tell you the truth--I don't really remember the translators, I've used the author's names where the author's name goes. Just make sure not to get the versions in classical Japanese, because that could be a little hard to read, unless you know classical Japanese. XD Please note, also, that the author's names have not been 'flipped'. Their names kind of no longer make sense when flipped, yersh?
Sei Shonagon: The Pillow Book of Sei Shonagon ((Rieluni))
Original title was probably just 'pillow book', but...yersh. I always refer to it as 'Sei Shonagon's pillow book', so I really don't know what the most oft-seen translation title is.
I would recommend 'Genji Monogatari' (The Tale of Genji), but I'm not sure if it goes against the Gaian ToS or not. :3 It does have mild sexual references, but everything is replaced by euphemisms (nothing explicit), so...-shrugs-
I would also recommend one of the many poem anthologies. :3 Happy reading, fellow Japan-lovers! -decides to refrain from inserting symbolism here-

I was just off introducing myself, and I thought of some more books. XD;;;;; So here we go.
Sacks, Oliver: An Anthropologist on Mars. ((Rieluni)) Doesteovsky, Fyodir: Notes from Underground. ((Rieluni)) Doesteovsky, Fyodir: The Brothers Karamov ((Rieluni)) Durrell, Gerald: My Family And Other Animals. ((Rieluni)) Borges, Jorge Luis: Ficciones. ((Rieluni)) Gawande, Atul: Complications. ((Rieluni))
Note: "Complications" is on surgery. It's not incredibly gory, but it does describe surgical procedures. Apologies for spelling mistakes. Well, Doesteovsky is the guy who wrote 'Crime and Punishment', so you'll be able to find him by that.
Also, without authors: -some anthologies on ancient Egyptian literature -The Clockwork Orange (I can't believe I forgot the author!)
Yays.
