Though at first the motion when he looked first at Fae's hand on his arm then to the reason for the attention grabbing was natural and easy, Alex jumped a little when he realized 'Daddy' was approaching. Given what little he'd heard of Fae's family life, he felt he had a little reason to be unsure of what to expect.

He blinked quizzically at the address, certain it didn't quite click with his usual definition of fathers - though it definitely sounded as though the coon desired an opportunity to... get something out of his system. He'd heard the tone - or... something similar to it, at least - before. Not a danger signal, not in the least. Unless one was feeling in similar straits. "No bother at all, really," he said sincerely, raising a single eyebrow as if to question whether he ought to be. "My name is Alex," he tacked on as an afterthought - names meant little to him, thus the first reaction to a question after identity was a whirlwind of thought directed at the point that there really was no way to wrap a person into a proper noun but... Not the kind of conversation one usually dropped on strangers.

Fae rested his head to Silver's shoulder, curling a bit closer to him, while his father tucked his child's tail up against him, using one arm to hold him close. He smirked towards the male, and nodded in slight greeting, "Silver," he replied, and canted his head, listening to his child's breathing...he must have been tired, neither of them had gotten much sleep lately.

"I've never seen you around," he mumbled, and glanced him over, smirk widening a bit, "New?" He questioned, taking note that he was asking a lot of questions...but curiosity killed the cat, why not the coon?

Shifting, he rested his weight against one leg, and crossed his free arm over his bared stomach, flaxen eyes focused on Alex.

The smirk was not lost on Alex, though the interpretation escaped him almost completely. Possibilities, surely - but what on earth could it mean? At least it wasn't anything uptight or 'get the hell away from my kid', because boy that would've been awkward.

The bird shifted slightly in his seat, readjusting wings and arms both, careful not to cross them for fear of appearing defensive. "That depends entirely on your definition of 'new'," he said cheerfully. And it did - though he was new in general to this place as a whole, so Silver's definition would determine the explanation as opposed to a 'yes' or 'no'.

Feeling his son shift a bit, he moved to set him down, gave him a 'look', and watched him toddle back off towards the playground..hopping up onto the swings for his amusement. Obviously, his son knew that Silver wanted to have a talk.

"Mm..as in, just moved in around here. I've never seen you at the shop," he murmured, and set his hands to his hips, not in a stern manner, just to have somewhere to put them. Shifting his weight, his tail swung against his hips, eyes still looking the other over with pure curiosity and amusement. His tone had dropped from defensive to calm, and kind.

His eyes trailed off after Fae for a moment before returning to the father. That boy really was something... precocious, wasn't he? Not just his imagination, something... unduly sensitive, though almost depressingly cautious. What could have engendered such an attitude?

A single headwing twitched slightly, possibly nervosity possibly amusement at the concept of his arrival on Gaia being something akin to mere 'moving in'. Oh yes... a new neighborhood, among other things. "I've been here... almost a year now, actually," he shrugged, more a slight lift of shoulders than the universal whatever gesture, "Just... haven't felt the impetus to go to the shop very often." He understood it to be the center of much anthropomorph activity, and thus... well, many questions might be answered by venturing there, but he'd had enough adventures between the Townhouse and the Nest and the edges of town without worrying about his species' culture.

"I see," he wondered why the other seemed so intent on watching his son. No, he didn't automatically believe he was some kind of pervert, wanting into his son's pants--that'd just be...disturbing. And he had been out for a while, so he would have assumed Fae would have been gone, if that had been the case.

"Mm," he nodded his head down, and narrowed his eyes, stepping a bit closer. His hand moved out, and ran into the other's hair, pushing it back, out of his eyes, getting a clearer look at them...which is what he wanted, though he could have asked. But, he didn't bother to..since he could help himself.

Cocky one, wasn't he?

"Ah..well, the shop is quite stressful, isn't it?" He questioned, and removed his hand from the other's hair, mindful of his, rather sharp, nails..since they trailed over Alex's forehead.

It was quite lucky for Alex, given those sharp nails, that his gut reaction had been to freeze at the contact rather than pull away. It was usually a toss up between the two when it came to him and physicality. The thoughts in his head, while racing, were not tinged with fear - not on the surface, at least, not where he could see and get ahold of them. He stared at the coon with eyes large but hard, poise brittle until something inside convinced his instinct that there was absolutely nothing wrong - just a little odd - and the stare relaxed, eyes turned to the ground and a slight frown crossing over the previous dear-in-headlights stare.

"I suppose," he agreed, seeking some sort of respite from embarassment. Always the same, no matter how many times! And people seemed so much more prone to touching here, for reasons he couldn't comprehend, never having been an advocate himself.

Lord knew why he liked to touch people. Things. Whatever. Others. He was a touchy person, it made sense. Maybe he had to touch others to make sure his grasp on..well, life, was still there. He always held onto his son..his 'mate'..etc. Mostly his son. He needed that anchor...to keep him there, and sane.

He chuckled at him gently, and brought his fingers up to run over the other's smaller wings atop his head, back of his fingers brushing it upwards, to see if it would span out..wondering how large they really were. He was easily amused, obviously.

"My son has taken a liking to you," his tone became more serious, and he frowned, "He usually doesn't speak to people he doesn't know. Even then..he doesn't talk much." He paused, "He looked...content around you."

He'd never discovered the reason, the root of his recalcitrance to touch, likely because he preferred not to think about it and if no thought was applied, how could a solution be found? There were few, select few he didn't mind contact with - well... one, most recently. More like there were only a few people in the world from who he didn't mind contact, but only one from whom he sought it and even then...

That the touch hadn't withdrawn left him squeamish inside - but, better than years before, still able to talk. He swallowed imperceptibly, gaze still more on Silver's feet than anywhere else. Focus on the words, the words and what they mean. For someone so bound up in the mental rather than the physical, wasn't it just ridiculous that he should react this way? No, no amount of rationalization had ever stopped the sudden jerk and flinch. Words! "I suppose I'm unthreatening," voice calmer than he'd expected it to be, thank God.

More, there should be more to say! But... couldn't find it now.

His expression went to confusion for a moment, tongue slipping out to run over his lower lip, before a smirk slid across his pale lips.

Oh.

He got it now.

He was scared of his touch? Well, he couldn't really say -scared-. He could moreso say...uncomfortable. He purred lowly, and moved closer, fingers moving to slip into his hair once more.

"Do tell me.." he began, "If this..-bothers- you." He seemed to be hunting, playing...looking for some kind of amusement in this boy, looking to see why his son was so comfortable in him. he felt a contented feeling, but he was also...well, ******** with the poor bird. His tail twitched.

What was he doing, anyway? His son wasn't more than 20 feet from him, and he was trying to seduce, and screw with, not only his son's friend, but someone who seemed uncomfortable, and his -mate- would freak out.

He flinched. And released the other, stepping back.

Given the option of answering honestly Alex felt free to abandon all facades of ettiquette and be straightforward. Tensing slightly from the shoulders to the neck to the jawline, his mouth opened slowly, mechanically, about to say something anything that would get the 'IT DOES' point across as pointedly as possible.

But when Silver withdrew and space to think returned, doubt came crashing back. It'd been an apology of sorts, hadn't it? Because moments later, the other had stopped. Flinched even, as if he'd suffered that contact as well. So it hadn't been bad, and thank God he hadn't snapped because then it very well might've been. "I'm sorry," he mumbled, wings drawing closer to his body - if that was humanly possible, considering how drawn they usually were - "I'm just... not that..." pause, words? "Touching really isn't my thing."

"Tch," he felt a pang of guilt, pushing himself on the other like that. Was it that he craved something besides his 'mate' shoving at him? He wrinkled his nose, and turned his head, "no," he replied, "It's fine."

Pausing once more, he closed his eyes, and relaxed a bit, "I should be sorry," he gave a half-hearted, warm smile..."I..well, it's been rough. And I get touchy when I'm..stressed," he admitted, and moved to plop down onto his rear end before the other male, and grinned childishly...

"Well," he bit his lower lip momentarily, "..Fae seems attached to you. And, as I said..that's different...any way..I could maybe talk you into seeing him more often?"

A nervous hand, quick movements to reach up and brush hair back behind his ear again as he sat, hunched in his seat, looking only sideways at the coon. "It's all right," he insisted, mumble dissipating into regular speech, even though Alex rarely spoke at any real volume.

He returned the grin with a mild smile of his own, looking once more to Fae on the swings at the suggestion, expression fading into something a shade more relaxed. There really was something so much less complciated about children... "I... really don't think I'd mind that at all," he admitted after a moment, "Fae is a very..." his expression turned baffled as opposed to frowning, still positive though not a smile, "I don't know." A rare resort for him, those three words. "But it's special."

He smiled gently towards the other, when he said it was okay..comforted by this answer, only because he knew he hadn't offended the other. He really needed to get over his bad habits.

"Thank god.." he sighed, mainly to himself, and laughed gently at the compliment to his son, "Thank you," he murmured gently, "He is..special..very much so..." he murmured, admiring his son whole-heartedly. "But.." Pause, "If he's grown attached to you..that means..that you are, as well..."

The color returned to his cheeks, though only for a moment as he released part of the tension that'd built up inside with a laugh - finally, a laugh! - head bending back as the amusement rolled forth, light and airy. "Kindred spirits, you think?" he asked at a teasing tone, as if to say aloud 'what do you know of me, anyway?' "Or maybe I gave him candy while you were napping," the bird slid down in his seat, turning to glance at Silver rather than relying on his peripheral vision, smile not quite sly enough to be believable.

Alternately, just sly enough to be a latent psychotic, but that wasn't the impression he usually gave people. Not like those types always do, but all the same...
