Ra listened to her and frowned down at the wood. "You are a nice person Obie. Your moodiness actually appealed to me the most when I met you. You are a very real person, I like real people." He paused for a few moments, thinking in silence at what she had said as he toyed with a fallen leaf. He smiled as she voiced her worry and shook his head. "What you do is none of my business. It's not for me to judge you." He looked up into her eyes and held the leaf flat in his palm. "I will admit, it intimidates me and I worry about you a lot because of your disregard for yourself, your health and mind. But none of it lessens you in my eyes. I wouldn't be a friend if I didn't help you through bad times."
He smiled and put the leaf on the wood next to him. "Now to get all afterschool special on you." He gave a small snort of laughter and looked up to meet her eyes. "You are a beautiful, interesting and sweet person. You have to believe that, because I'm not going to make myself sound like an idiot telling you all the time."

Obie arched a brow in genuine surprise when he admitted that it was her moodiness that had appealed most to him at first. That was a new one for her. It usually drove people crazy first if and before they found they liked it. She dropped her eyes down to the leaf in his hand as he continued on and smiled lightly in relief when he said he did not judge her for her actions. She pulled her legs back in to their original cross legged position and leaned forward on her knees, then looked back up to his face as he continued on. She honestly could not remember a single person ever actually saying to her face that they worried about her because of what she did to herself. It filled her with a warmth she had never felt before.
She smiled lightly as he threatened to go afterschool special on her. As he spoke she found herself searching his eyes, willing herself to find some sort of malice or deceit behind them. But she couldn't and she knew deep down that she never would either and she was just being incredibly stupid.
"But maybe I like it when you make yourself sound like an idiot," she smirked lightly, continuing to hold his eyes with hers. A soft silence fell between them, and she continued to watch him for a moment, taking in his deep tanned skin, handsome features, and gorgeous grey eyes. She half realized how close they were and blinked before looking away. She getting way too carried away with the moment He was just her friend. Truly her first real friend and he was just being very sweet to her because that was how friends were to each other.
"Tell me something about yourself that you would normally never tell anyone," she said softly, reaching out to pick up the leaf he had set down beside his leg.

"Something I wouldn't usually tell anyone?" He asked sofly, his eyes following her hand as she picked up the leaf. He closed his eyes for a moment and basked in the warm energy that seemed to surround them. He truely did not think that he had felt more at ease with someone.
"I'm scared of being alone." He said with a slight smile. "My insomnia is related to it. I get scared I will wake up and everyone will be gone. I cry in my sleep because I dream it." He ran his fingers through his hair and took a deep breath. "Silly huh? I really hate being alone." He looked back up at her and opened his eyes.
"Your turn." He said softly. "Tell me something."

Obie twirled the leaf between her fingers as she waited for him to think of something, then looked up when he began to speak softly. She gave him a warm smile and shook her head.
"Not silly at all. It's a very common fear that I think we all feel at one time or another," she said reassuringly. "But I know that doesn't make it any less scary," she smile and looked back down to the leaf in her hand.
"I can play the piano and I've never had a lesson," she smiled as she watched the leaf spin one way and then the other. "And I like to sing... very much. Only two people have ever heard me though. It really is something I don't share freely. Now that's silly... isn't it?" she smiled and looked up into his eyes.

"Not silly at all." He said with a smile. "Some gifts are personal, it's nice to keep them that way."
Falling to silence he watched her, once more relaxing into the warmth between them. It was a new, alien feeling to him, but one that he welcomed greatfully. Intimate but with no expectations. "I would like to hear you play one day." He said with a broad smile. "If you ever decide to open up your audience. I have no musical talent so I live through those who do."

"Maybe if you're extra sweet we might take a stroll over to the music building and I'll indulge you when we get back. I think it might be the least I could do for you in thanks for this very wonderful birthday," she smiled warmly and reached out to offer him the leaf in her hand. "And don't act all modest about it either. I don't give compliments lightly," she smirked.

"I have to be sweeter?" He asked with a smirk, taking the leaf from her hand and holding it up to the shafts of sunlight. "Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed today. It will be worth it if I get to witness your secret talent."
He gave a small laugh and finished off his tea. It had certainly been an interesting day, and to his suprise he was finding himself wishing that it didn't have to end. "What do you want to do now?" He asked leaning back a little. "Hang out here a bit longer, go somewhere else or head back? Birthday girl's choice."

"Ice cream," she said with a smile, tucking a stray strand of hair out of her eyes. "As I'm going to guess that you don't have a cake hidden in that backpack of yours, and even though the shade is nice, it's still really hot out here." She started putting lids back on containers and smiled. "Buy me an ice cream and I'll play and sing for you," she smirked up at him.

"You're on." He said placing the boxes back in the back pack and closing it up. Realising he was still holding the leaf he smiled and blew it off his palm to float gently to the floor. "I don't bake cake I'm afraid. I could have put candles in the lamb I suppose." He joked as he swung the backpack onto his back and started off down the quiet path back to civilisation.

Obie hopped up to her feet and fell into step beside him with a laugh. "Um... that would have been interesting I'm sure," she laughed at the thought of seeing candles sticking out of the lamb.
The walk to the ice cream parlor was peaceful as they continued to enjoy each other's company. Slipping into the air conditioning, Obie breathed a sigh of relief and glanced back at Ra before moving over to the case to see what flavors they had, even though she already knew. This was the same parlor that she and Makito frequented whenever he got a sweet tooth and needed someone to go out with him. Spying her favorite, she ordered a strawberry cone and stepped back so Ra could order his.

Ra ordered a green tea flavour ice cream and took the cone from the server with a smile and paid for both of them. "Shall we eat in here?" He asked spotting some seats by a window. He guessed she could do with the reprive from the heat. He sat on the metal chair and rolled his sleeves down. "Why do your parents give you such a hard time?" He asked absently, not really thinking about how personal a question it was. "Sorry, that was a bit rude."

"Please," Obie replied to his question and followed him over to the small table by the window. She watched him roll down his sleeves with a bit of amusement as she started eating her cone, then glanced up at his question.
"Hmm... I think that we're a bit beyond apologizing for direct questions. So you don't have to do that anymore," she smirked, slightly stalling for a moment to think her answer through.
"Um... they give me a hard time for a lot of reasons, but mostly because I am not Isabel. Isa is their birth daughter. They adopted me when they were told they would not be able to have children, then I believe about a month after they signed the papers... well... you know the rest," she said with a small shrug of her shoulder. It was a story she had heard many times growing up. But as she got older she just coudn't understand why it had to be that way. It just didn't make sense anymore. Sighing lightly, she looked back up to Ra. "They had only ever wanted one child. I was a last resort that went horribly wrong," she smirked wryly. She looked back down to her ice cream, then sat back in her seat and crossed her legs under the table.
"What do your parents do?" she asked with a warm smile, changing the subject to a more neutral topic. She wasn't going to hold onto the bitterness anymore, she suddenly decided. She couldn't change them and it wouldn't matter anymore if she did. They weren't capable of giving her the things she needed.

Ra listened to her and felt angry again. "People with that attitude should not be allowed to have children." He said dakrkly as he ate his cone. He noted her change of subject and decided he should not question further. "My mother is a lecturer and campaigner for Islamic women's rights. She works through UNIFEM. My father is a doctor, he applies as a visiting doctor to hospitals as he's always moving around with my mother's job." He smiled and caught a drip of green ice cream with his finger. "They live in Chiba at the moment." He said tracing the drip up and licking the melted cream from his finger.

Obie was a bit surprised by the darkness in his voice when he spoke of her parents, though she couldn't agree more with him. Just look at the monster they had created with the child they had cared about. As he spoke of his parents, she listened with great interest. They both sounded very interesting, especially his mother. That was really just an incredible job she had. She watched him catch the drip from his ice cream, then looked back up to his eyes.
"You're dripping on this side too," she informed him as she continued to eat casually with a small smile. Her eyes fell on the lip ring and she tilted her head to the side to catch her own pink drip off the side of her cone with her tongue.
"What's it feel like getting your lip pierced right there? And doesn't the ice cream make it really cold?" she asked, looking back down at her cone to make sure she wasn't dripping anywhere else.

"Oh." He said as she pointed out that he was dripping on the other side. This time he licked the drip up the side and continued to eat. "Not really." He said as he ate. "I can imagine it being worse if I had gotten a tongue piercing." He thought for a moment and smirked. "Maybe that will be next. Do you have any piercings or tattoos?" He asked absently. He could see she didn't have any visible piercings but she may just not be wearing them.
