"Damn Hakan brat. Must think she's something special around here, being the Doc's niece. I tell ya', she's got a chip on her shoulder, that one. What I'd give to knock it off and..."

"Woah, chill, buddy. I'll handle this one," a male voice replied, chuckling softly as he laid a hand on the other guard's shoulder. "Can't let 'em get to ya', you know." He winked before leaning over to the intercom system and pressing a button. He automatically adopted a completely new tone of voice, both pleasing...and patronizing at the same time.

"Of course, Ms. Hakan. Your escort will arrive in moments."

He paused, smirking as if he couldn't resist.

"Have a nice day."

He released the button before snickering and heading for the door to the hall.

"Be back in a little while."

Samantha was genuinely surprised by the reaction she got this time, though she refused to show it. She'd expected the usual beating around the bush and stammering before finally being told she absolutely could not see her uncle right now; perhaps if she tried again later. The voice from the intercom sounded so helpful and compliant. Something was up.

Her eyes narrowed suspiciously and she allowed herself to make a face at the camera for that last line. Obnoxious pricks...all of them. She had to get out of this place soon. Otherwise, she might have to hurt one of them.

She was already tapping her foot in irritation when the guard arrived, even though it had probably only been about a minute or two. "'Bout damn time," she sneered, pushing her way into the hallway and taking the lead. "Now, let's get going."

The guard had to bite his tongue momentarily to keep from snapping back something smartassed at the young woman. Fiery, snarky one, wasn't she? Shame...she wasn't that bad to look at afterall. His eyes darted up and down her form as she turned her back on him. Athletic, yet feminine...yes, very nice. Too bad about the attitude. She seemed to be one of those women who just couldn't keep their place. Oh, how he'd like to teach her...

Shaking off the distracting thoughts, he adopted his usual fake smile and nodded. "Of course, Ms. Hakan. I sensed you were in a hurry, so I rushed over as soon as I could." Keep up the act. Helpful and subservient...it kept them off-guard.

Still smiling, he hurried to match pace with her and take the lead again. The first cardswipe was just ahead.

Samantha hesitated for a bit, deciding to check her attitude. Sure, this guy was laying it on thick, but she'd never seen him before and at least he seemed to be helping for the moment. She really had no reason to be treating him so badly...not yet at least. Still, she kept pace with him as they neared the end of the hallway and her look softened, just the tiniest bit.

"Thanks. Sorry about snapping at you like that earlier. I've had some bad experiences with some of the guards around here. I shouldn't leap to conclusions about everyone in a uniform. Forgive me." She offered the man an apologetic smile, a genuine one. He was young like many of the guards around here, but unlike most of them, he at least seemed to be trying to be helpful. The least she could do was give him a chance.

"Would it be alright if I asked your name? I suppose you already know mine," she chuckled humorlessly. Everyone seemed to know her name around here for some reason. Everyone that worked here at least. The name Hakan seemed to make most CRONUS staff cringe. If only she knew why...

It took all that the young man had not to smirk darkly at her apology. That's right...she'd better treat him better... He didn't like that she was still keeping pace with him, however. Apparently, she still clung to that stubborn rebellious streak.

"Of course, Miss. That's quite understandable, given the nature of some of my co-workers, I'm afraid. Guards aren't typically hired for their cheery personalities," he offered with a slight chuckle. "You can call me Dameon, if you'd like. That will do." He offered her a smile in return...not genuine, but well-practiced to appear so. Without hesitation, he swiped his card in the slot and opened the door for her, leading her into the connecting wing and taking a turn down the next corridor.

"Dameon? Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Dameon. I knew there had to be a decent person working somewhere in this crazy place!" She laughed, though something about the way he said she could call him that made her wonder whether that was really his name or not. Or maybe she was just being overly suspicious again. She could get a little carried away sometimes. She hung back just a bit, following the guard to the point where he turned and she started off in the opposite direction. Frowning in confusion, she halted and glanced back. What was going on? She could have sworn that the lab was this direction, wasn't it?

"I must be turned around or something," she started, still smiling, though her cheerfulness was waning. She could swear that this was the way. "I thought the lab was in this direction."

Oh, she was a smart one, wasn't she? Plastic smile still in place, the guard turned back and nodded. "Oh, you are quite right. The lab is that way. However, I thought you wanted to see your uncle; not the lab. He's working in the offices right now, not the lab itself. All of the higher-ups have offices that are separate from the labs themselves where they process data and such on their personal computers." He nodded, as this explained everything of course and turned to head down the hallway again, trusting that she'd follow. She had to...he'd been believable, right? He had the confident tone, the bright smile to put her at ease, his seemingly-relaxed composure...
PostPosted: Wed Aug 01, 2007 7:35 pm

"Oh, okay. That makes sense," Samantha muttered, still sounding a little unsure even as she said it. It did make sense, right? The doctor's had to have offices, didn't they? They couldn't collect data and process it all in the labs themselves, right? There just wasn't room for that. In fact, most research facilities gathered data in the labs, then sent all the information to computers in a separate location for flunkies, like grad students, to crunch the numbers. At least, that's how it had worked in all the other places she'd been in the past couple years.

She couldn't just ignore her instincts, however. They were practically screaming at her that something just wasn't right here. Of course, her instincts had been doing that a lot lately, but more as a quiet voice in the back of her mind; not screaming in her face.

Taking a deep breath, she sighed and shook her head, turning back to follow Dameon down the darker side hallway. He was still a guard. He worked here. He'd know more than she would about where her uncle was, right? Yeah...sure...

Confident that the young woman couldn't see his face, the guard grinned triumphantly. She was following him! He'd practically won already...

He led her down a series of twisting and turning hallways, each as uniform as the last. One could easily get lost in here if they weren't careful. Luckily, he knew exactly where they were going. And still she followed.

Pausing at last before a door with a cardswipe, he had to admit, this did look like an office door. And it was; even if it bore no name or other identifying mark. With a swipe and an electronic click, he pushed the door open and held it for her. Inside, one could just catch a glimpse of a corner of a desk and the armrest of a chair. It looked like any other generic office, if lacking any personal decorations; though one couldn't tell that from the doorway. Hopefully, Samantha wouldn't notice that an automatic switch linked to a motion detector had turned the lights on as the guard had opened the door.

Samantha did notice. As did her instincts, screaming themselves to hoarseness at this point. Frowning, she glanced around the doorjam, then stepped inside, looking for any trace that her uncle had been here recently. Hell, that ANYONE had been here recently. Yeah, dust and that usual musty odor...all the signs of misuse and that no one had been in this room in a while.

"Unless we just stepped into a time warp or other singularity, I'm pretty sure my uncle isn't here and hasn't been here ever, as far as I can tell. Now, how about you tell me what the hell is going on?" she snapped, attitude closely accompanying her returning irritation.

Her only answer was the electric click of the door shutting behind the guard, as well as the bolt he quickly turned above the handle. Whirling back to face her, his eyes met hers as a smirk crossed his face. Malicious intent practically radiated from his stance, all helpful pretenses long gone now. Chuckling darkly, he kept his back to the door as he slowly advanced on the young woman. "Calm down, lady. You'll see your uncle soon enough," he lied, if only to placate her. It'd certainly be easier if she'd calm down.

"I just thought we could have little fun here first."

His eyes darted once more up and down her form, taking in her athletically-toned muscles and gentle curves. He'd been on this island for some time now and there weren't many women about, at least not around the guard's quarters. That didn't mean he'd lost his standards either. This was a fine specimen of the female species and he had her all to himself for the moment. There were no security cameras in these old, unused offices and it would be a while yet before anyone started wondering where she'd gone. Long enough at least. Plenty of time.

Of course, he wasn't ignorant of what she was. Or at least, of what she would be, at least. In any case, she was female and not bad looking. And for the moment, still human. That was all that mattered. That, and he would particularly enjoy teaching her a woman's place in a man's world. That was just a bonus as far as he was concerned.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 01, 2007 7:46 pm

Samantha wasn't ignorant either by any means and she didn't need to have it spelled out for her. She knew exactly what this guy meant and wanted...and she was not about to let him have it.

"You sick...pathetic...b*****d..." she snarled, fists clenched so tightly that her nails almost drew blood. If she was irritated before, she was right pissed off now. The mere thought that this guy had planned to lure her here to...'have his way with her'...almost made her see red...literally. The nerve and audacity of this creep! She couldn't resist shooting a barb his way. "If this is the only way you can meet girls, you're more pathetic than I'd imagined."

Dropping into a loose, defensive fighting stance, Samantha waited for the guard's next move, deciding to see if he was as easy to provoke as some of her past sparring partners. "Well, if you want it that badly, you're going to have to take it. That is, if you think you're man enough." She paused, casting an appraising eye over him. "Heh...probably not."

Luckily for Samantha, it seemed that the guard wasn't exactly thinking with his brain at the moment. And if he'd done his research on this particular 'target' properly, he'd have known that her stance wasn't just for show.

Stupid woman. Did she think that she scared him with her arrogant talk? She was just a woman, afterall! He was a man and naturally superior to any ignorant female!

Laughing, he dropped his security card so that it still dangled around his neck. Cracking both his knuckles and his neck, he grinned. "Alright then, little lady. You want it rough, you got it." Confident in his easy victory, he charged.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 01, 2007 7:49 pm

Samantha smirked to herself. Exactly what she'd been hoping for. Immediately dropping to the ground, she spun around with a sweeping heel kick, catching the guard's feet as he rushed by, tripping him up quite nicely. Grinning with a bit of a sadistic sparkle at the resounding crash, Samantha bounced back to her feet, hopping from one foot to the other. Adrenaline was pumping through her system and she was eager for a fight, even if it was completely one-sided. She had a lot of pent up frustration afterall.

"Buddy, I like it rough. The question is, can you handle it?"

She smirked, further irritating the guard as he climbed to his feet, a little more wary this time. Smart-mouthed female. Oh, the lessons he'd teach her for this...

Sensing that the guard was distracted and not quite steady on his feet just yet, Samantha risked a spinning roundhouse kick, hoping the slower version's added momentum would be enough to knock him into the wall.

Not quite. She'd underestimated her foe this time and the guard quickly caught her ankle before she made contact, gripping it so tightly that it hurt. She cringed slightly, cursing under her breath. She balanced carefully on her left foot, mind racing with possibilities for her next move. There were a few, but her first priority was getting her foot free. Especially before he managed to cause her permanent damage. As Dameon opened his mouth, probably to make another smart-mouthed comment, Samantha hauled off and sent her left foot into the universal male weakspot.

This was real life afterall. Not a martial arts competition. All's fair, right?

Of course, this left her with no brace leg to stand on and she hit the floor hard in an undignified heap. But her right foot was free. Victory enough.

Dameon hit the floor almost as hard, knees first with hands between his legs, practically dazed from the pain alone. Damned woman! He hardly noticed as the security card was torn from around his neck. He was more concerned with other things at the moment.

"You got what you deserved, you sick pervert," Samantha snarled, climbing to her feet with the card in hand. Satisfied that her foe wouldn't be up and about for a good while, she crouched down and grabbed a fistful of his hair, forcing him to meet her furious gaze. She could feel the blood pumping through her veins with each heartbeat, pulsing behind her eyes and making her vision hazy even as she breathed heavily. She'd never felt such fury before and her voice didn't even sound like her own, it was so laden with hatred and disgust. "If those ever decend again, and you feel the urge to use them, I'd suggest the electric fence in the exercise yard."

She didn't notice the odd, glazed look in the guard's eyes as she released him and stood. She couldn't bring herself to look at him any more, though she had to fight the sudden, violent urge to kick his huddled form once more. No, she'd done enough damage for now...though her fury screamed otherwise. Key in hand, she forced herself to cross the room to the door, unlocking it with excessive focus and purpose before disappearing into the hall.

Afterall, she had an uncle to talk to.

She wanted out of here.

Search for the Truth -- Part 2

(Cornering Carl or Hunting Hakans)

Heaven help the first fool that tried to stop Samantha Hakan from reaching her quarry.

Dear Uncle Carl Hakan.

Yes, it was time for a nice little family chat. She thought so at least, and she was sure that Uncle Carl would agree. Eventually. Maybe with a little convincing.

The young woman stalked through the maze of CRONUS hallways with purpose and barely-concealed fury. One would never guess that she had no idea where she was going. Unfortunately, she'd gotten a bit distracted, if only momentarily, while following Dameon earlier and had mis-remembered a couple turns. If only she could find her way back to the hallway that lead out from the dormitory wing...or anything that might look familiar or be labeled well enough to give her some clue of where she was or where she needed to go. Ah well. Reaching another cardswipe beside a locked door, she automatically plucked the card that now hung around her neck, swiped it, and shoved the door open roughly after the electronic click.

...right into a pair of guards on the other side.

s**t.
