BMW has officially bought out Sauber today. Sauber will continue to run this season using the Petronas chassis and old Ferrari engine, but next year will be renamed BMW Racing (or something along those lines). The question remains: Will Jacques Villeneuve and Felipe Massa still be with the team next year to be able to DRIVE for the German engine powerhouse?

Appeal on the 28th for those teams who did appeal (6 of the 7 teams, not counting Red Bull Racing of course.)

Formula1.com projects a McLaren-Renault battle for both the Driver's championship AND the constructor's championship. Although Alonso has quite the points lead (26 points, that's 2 race wins and a third place), McLaren's teamwork shows that the Renault top car can be defeated. Can Montoya help his teammate Raikkonen and maybe get the both of them to chase Alonso down? With 8 races to go, ANYTHING can happen, as Silly Season 2005 begins!

July 14th, 2005 - (Source: Formula1.com)
"Having examined the new evidence and discussed it with both team principals, the Senate said it 'was satisfied that the teams were contractually bound to follow the instructions of their tyre supplier and that their tyre supplier had expressly prohibited them from racing.' "
It went on to say that in light of the new evidence, 'disciplinary proceedings against the teams had ceased to be appropriate and were no longer in the interest of the sport.' It will now recommend to the World Motor Sport Council that the guilty verdicts be dropped and a fax vote on the matter is expected to take place in the next few days."
Thank You Ron Dennis, McLaren-Mercedes and Red Bull Racing! They foudn the loophole I was looking so forward to see. You are gods to us all...
IN OTHER NEWS:
Formula1.com has a fan vote for the "proposed new qualifying structure" for 2006. There's 2 new proposals, but they are both utter garbage. We as the fans want the original 1 hour hot-lapping qualifying back, just like old times. Proposal 1 is close, but having 2 laps added together blows, and I can guarantee that cars will hate being out there. Proposal 2 is a disgrace, in my opinion, because it belittles the guys who suck because their cars aren't up to par. BUT just think if say a Ferrari breaks down, they're stuck in the back. Vote for whichever tickles your own fancy.
(We'll be down to 18 cars next year since Minardi might not exist, since that Michelin debacle, Minardi's Team Principle has already told Max Mosley to step down or Minardi are gone. Minardi is influential to the sport because Michael Andretti drove for them.)

The Silly Season is back, let's see how things shape up so far:
- Button's still in a tug of war between Williams and BAR Honda next season.
- Massa has signed for 2006 with Ferrari. It's unclear whether or not Michael Schumacher will retire. Barrichello is looking for a ride next year as his contract ends in December. UPDATE: Barrichello has signed with BAR in a multi-year, multi-million dollar deal.
- Jacques Villeneuve is rumored to be BMW's first driver. BMW bought out Sauber Petronas in an attempt to rival Ferrari as a car maker owning a team. JV still has years left on the Sauber deal, if BMW wishes to renew the contract, although they do not have to.
- Rumors abound that Narain Karthikeyan is pushing Jordan's buttons, as that team goes up for sale again. Narain is a bit teed that his team sucks (much like his driving as of late, too aggressive) but if he keeps that up, potential buyer Audi might be swayed to create their own team straight up. YES, AUDI!...
- Audi wants to bring their V8's to Formula 1 next season. F1 is going back to the V8s next year to make F1 more useful to the supercar economy (only Ferrari and BMW have made V10 cars, and those are limited in numbers). Audi's engines are famous for winning many 24 hours of Le Mans races.
- Chevy may also be looking at moving into F1 territory, although it looks slim.
- Red Bull will be using Ferrari engines next year. That means 4 spec Ferrari V8 engines will again return to the track, seeming Sauber dropped their contract obviously with the sale to BMW.
- Williams will be using V8 Cosworth powerplants next season.
- A lot more shinanigans coming up in future installments of Silly Season 2k6!

Checking out the times in Monza, only 1 driver has managed to break the 1:20.010 lap record made by Anthony Davidson, unofficially that is. Newly out of the points race, Juan Pablo Montoya, set the first ever 1:19 lap in Monza, Italy, that is sending shockwaves through the Renault paddock that might mean Kimi is on the charge back into contention! This is gonna be so close by the time we get to the last race.

Alonso is Champion... 3rd place in Brazil makes him clinch the Driver's Title, regardless of where he finishes in the next 2 races.

New News is good news, here's it:
- JV is said to be racing at the same pace as Nick Heidfeld for BMW next season. Mario Thiessen, Team Principal for BMW Sauber F1, says nothing was really serious with the other drivers in contention for the position, and Jacques had more to offer to the table. The next best thing to JV, Mario said, was Sebastien Bourdais, but talks with him and his agent never reached a seriousness or comfortability like the talks with Jacques did. Go figure, Jacques has two things going for him that Sebas has never had: An Indy 500 win and a Formula 1 Championship.
- Eyes are on 2 drivers to get into F1 before 2008. One is Katherine Legge, who many say (many being many Minardi personnel and John Surtees, team principal for Team Great Britian A1) and has more driving talent than Jenson Button (who knew?). Legge is the favorite to win the Champ Car Test Session with PKV Racing this month, as well as take a nice seat into the T1 car for PKV in the Toyota Atlantic Series. Remember she came 3rd last year in the championship, with 3 wins, making history as the first female to win a major open-wheel sprint car race in North America.
- The other big up and comer in the driver list is Canadian Sean McIntosh. McIntosh drives as the only driver for Team Canada in A1 GP, and is also getting a GP2 test session in the new year. He also ran well in the Formula Renault championship this year, getting his first win of his European major open-wheel career. Sean is expected to go the European route to F1, but the only thing that eludes him is a fan base.

I was right, and TSN made it so. I made the announcements of the Red Bull and Squadro Toro Rosso driver placements before TSN and after the A1 GP broadcast... and a month later, TSN announces the same information! Ponza beats TSN at their own game! Yaus!

Check out the first post for the Ferrari pic. Notice no ads? That's a first for a test car to be in Ferrari Red but have no sponsor ads during a test. Usually, the car is in standard black.

Seven time world champion Michael Schumacher, meanwhile, inspired a few smiles at Mugello on Tuesday when asked about the noise of the new V8 units.
"They sound, to me, a bit like Tina Turner's voice," the German quipped.
The Ferrari now has full ads, including Vodafone, which may appear on the Ferrari AND the McLaren this year.
